Texting while driving... wow.

Important yes, but the key is being able to focus on the road—the universal factor in fiddling with anything while you're behind the wheel. If you can't do that, then whether it's tuning the radio or texting, you're done.

Exactly. But when you go out next, notice how the people who are texting, even while walking aren't in total control of themselves. No matter if they have to stare straight down at the keypad or if they have it down by their side (which may require even more attention if you haven't been texting forever). It's like watching people who walk while reading a book. And I would never want to see somebody drive while reading:scared:.

I wouldn't mind it so much if more of them were on speed or coke or something.

(That's only half serious—their reflexes are insane when people are on uppers!)

I'm sure they also drive like the way they feel.

People can react as fast as they want, a car is still limited by the laws of physics.

Did you know that there is an exception in the law that allows "Operators of an authorized emergency vehicle during the course of employment are exempt..." from the law?

Cops are somehow less prone to getting distracted by their cell phones than normal citizens? Don't know why a police officer would use their cell phone while on duty...

That's why I still use my cell phone whenever I want. I rather take the fine than submit to hypocrisy.

They are... "trained" professionals though. :dunce:

Actually, it's funny you say that because there was a cop talking about speeding around a local area here and then as the segment was finishing they showed a cop car speeding away.

I also hate the fact that I have to PAY for a RECEIVED text. I didn't ask for it, but it costs me $$$ for every stinking message. I don't have to pay for somebody to leave me voice mail. . . .
You pay to recieve texts, is that from other countries only or just every text you get period. If it's every text then tell your mobile company the year is 2008, that's ridiculous.

Man... talk about the stupidity of people in Kalifornya. You say they can use a Bluetooth headset to talk, so you're essentially telling people it's ok to use your phone while you drive... WTF did you think was going to happen... ? Now they have to make it a law that you can't text...

I text when I'm at a light... (I have a FULL keyboard too.)
Good for them. If we had that, maybe the retarded teenagers in this town would actually stop plowing into stuff. It's a miracle 90% of them walk away.

Sometimes you almost wish it wasn't. Oops did I say that out loud? I'm 17 and have been driving for only approx. 6 months and I haven't used my phone for texting nor calling so far only picked up my phone while driving to say I'm driving and i'll call back later.

I was riding around with my parents talking on their bluetooth headsets. They were regularly going 10 under and being generally unattentative. The only thing a bluetooth headset does is free up one hand. Your brain is still just as distracted. Apparently people don't realize this.

And I sometimes text and drive. But that's almost always at lights, in gridlock or on the wide open freeway and done with one hand while watching the road.

I hate talking on the phone while I'm driving. I can put it into drive mode, which helps some, but it's still quite hard to signal, check blind spots and concentrate at all.

Haha it's not THAT hard to shift and yak, I either jam the phone against my shoulder or shift with the free hand (I'm actually pretty good at left handed shifting in a left-hand drive :P)

I know, but it is "slightly" more dangerous than the ones he listed. lol

It's funny, these days because now there's a shift toward "hay, I'm driving and I don't have my bluetooth and I don't want to get a ticket" talk.

I broke the law earlier listening to a voice mail message while I was driving. :gasp:

The thing is: that with a bluetooth, you don't have the side of your face that you have your phone to blocked and blinded.
I don't drive any slower, or weave all about when I'm on the 'tooth.
When I'm holding the phone I can't see anything happening on my right (hold my fone in that hand), and I tend to steer where I'm looking when I have a phone in my hand.
