I had quite a few issues in today's stages including a stall in stage 1 but I think it turned out okay
Yeah, you got me :sly:. I ended up backwards in stage 2, and in a ditch in stage 4 which cost me around 20 seconds. Was pretty happy with my stage 1 and 3 times though.

Jeez Connor, that is a great overall. I'm going to get some stages in tomorrow. Hopefully I can keep up with the Snailien.

Holy smokes I am slow! Like really really slow! Nearly 30 seconds a stage slower.
So, that leads me to ask some questions.
What is your setup? I see we are all on wheels. What brand you have and how is your rig setup?
Do you adjust settings before racing? I am guessing this is where I am losing time. Even one the two stages I ran really well I was still 20 seconds or more behind. Can some of you... Connor maybe? put some replay footage up on youtube? I've been thinking of doing the same myself, but I am not so sure I want to ATM...
And one last question, would you guys be interested in a monthly Rallycross event? something on like a friday night or weekend morning/afternoon? I see at least three of us are in the Eastern time zone. But even with such a small group, we cover a lot of the globe and that could put out someone. If you are interested though, let me know in your timezone, along with what time zone that is, what time and date works best and we will see what we can swing.

you could do it by lap times and time taken to do x amount laps

I can see about recording some runs, I was thinking about doing it anyway :)

I'm guessing it probably has a lot to do with maintaining momentum and braking as little as possible.

My rig for Dirt is my G27 so I can use the h-pattern shifter and clutch. I haven't changed any of the settings for the wheel. My rig is basically 2x4 and plywood desk we made that doubles as my computer desk and my rig. It's sort of like a rally driving position with the shifter right next to the wheel.

Using the h-pattern lets me flat shift when accelerating or engine brake with downshifting into hairpins. I stall way too often when I tap the handbrake because of my GT6 habits of not needing to clutch in, engine braking works well enough on loose surfaces.

All I really do to the setup is lengthen 1st gear then adjust the other gears accordingly because 1st gear usually only goes up to like 30 km/h. Otherwise I just like to keep the car balanced.
I just use a G27 on a desk with my pedals duct-taped to the floor. H-patten+clutch and no heel-toe because I feel like I drive better when only focusing on braking.
My main advice to become faster is to just run practice stages a lot, push hard, and crash a lot to know the boundaries. Not joking about that last one.

I don't like the rallycross cars so I probably wouldn't participate in a rallycross event. :sly:

Jeez, it most definitely is my braking and cornering then. Sounds like my setup is a lot like yours Connor, just more set up to match a stock road car. Even have the subaru seat and center console, complete with parking brake, that my shifter is set into. Anyway, going to have to review rally footage and lose my drifter mentality.
Ettick, I believe we can use any car. While I do enjoy those cars, I think it would be more fun in 70's or 80's class cars. I'll check it out and see if that is the case.

Willfred, not against the idea, however, the idea I am going for is to race together on the same track. We are doing the time trail thing weekly as it is running stages.

Yeah, you are way smoother through corners, especially small directional changes on the "straights." You also cut the corners far better than i do. I slow down to much in the wrong areas and not enough in the others. Just need to get practice in I guess.

I also looked into it more and apparently the Kadett is the fastest car in this class, I haven't driven any of the others yet.

What I would reconmend is to watch some videos of rallying from the 70s right up today. One thing you will notice the sliding angles are minimal even in 70s rwds cars. For 70s cars watch ari vatenen. The 80s the choice is wide open for nineties, there's grao holm and solberg,2000 Loeb.

Hope this helps.

I'll be honest, I was hoping it was because I was using the h-gate and clutchand all of you weren't! That assumption was wrong.
I'll check out lots of footage, thanks for the recommendations Willfred. Watching Connor I can already tell I move my wheel to much. Gonna run some more 70s events before getting back to school work.

Dirt Rally doesn't work well with high wheel lock. If you're moving your wheel too much try turning it down. I'm using 540 degrees at the moment.

Agreed, i currently run 543 degrees. You'll find it much easier to transition the car, as you'll have to move the wheel less. Real life rally cars use a shorter than stock steering rack anyways, so if you're worried about realism it's actually a step in the right direction.

Same here 540 till the ffb actually works better I tried it at 900 and I was a good 10seconds + slower as you can't transition aswell.

OK, i am working on getting it adjusted. Started to earlier and lost ffb altogether. Gonna mess with it here in a minute.

I'm still using 900 degrees and it makes feints and hairpins quite difficult to do consistently, 540 is probably a good setting. I used that back in my LFS days quite often.

How are you setting the rotation, through the Logitech software or in game? I messed with the saturation and that changed things, but I can't say the lock changed as the description eluded to.

I use about 250 degrees, it's a bit too twitchy for rallying but it's what I use for iRacing and switching between different settings can take a few hours to adjust to so I just put up with it.

on a different subject the fiat isn't competitive did a practice run in it and was 30 seconds off so i might try the beast that is the stratos.

Alright everyone, no changes to the leader board to update on, the new event has started and I am hoping to put in a vastly improved upon time. Good luck to everyone on the new stages.

Still 70s. It's a two week season to cover the end of September. Next season will cover the whole of Oct. One event a week, and we will run 80s then. I think for this few season will will stick to 70s and 80s. Maybe try rwd group b a little later, or try a season of hill climbs.
