Problem is the os doesnt have the style of apples iphone (to me its really important how nice the icons look) and also the handsets themselves don't look as clean.

To me this is the only competitor in the aesthetics dept.

I don't even know if any of the carriers use Sony phones here in the US, it seems like everyone sells Motorola, LG and Samsung products. But, competition is good, and it looks like everyone will be shooting for the $200 iPhone-killer line from now on.

See in the UK its totally opposite, nearly all carriers offer Sony Ericsson phones, expensive and cheap, pay as you go and contract. I guess its because its a European company but SE also does very well in Asia despite being reluctant to produce any half good clamshell phone! Motorola don't do that great here.

I guess the Sony looks and OS design show through with things like the Xperia X1 drawing heavily from the Vaio dept! What I would give for that phone.. oh well my K750i will do for now :)

I don't think we can compare phones here period since we are 10 years behind everyone when it comes to phones. I think the iPhone is maybe where we have an edge.

I did make a post in here saying how I have the iPhone (16GB black) now, but apparently something happened and it got lost in cyberspace...

In summary: Got one. Love it. Slightly sketchy coverage. Some cool free apps. Please feel free to ask any questions.

I have a quick question,

Anyone think Apple will soon release a new iPod Touch with the same style back as the iPhone? Possibly along with an uprated OS (to bring it up to the 3G's par) and a price cut...

Just wondering because it seems like its obviously going to happened and dont want to buy now to find it changes in like the next month.

I'm doubting it, but then again, I don't follow Apple well enough to know. The big iPod news lately has been the Nano redux (again...), but I haven't heard much from the Touch department other than the new firmware was out.

Its probably going to be a while until we see a "new" Touch, but a lot of that will be dependent upon the iPhone I assume. That, or other Touch-like competitors...

Macrumors.com seems to think that there will be updates across the whole iPod range soon. Doesn't state what kind of updates though.

I would expect Apple to keep the designs slightly different. The iPod would likely keep a chrome back if so. They run the same firmware now, so I'm not sure what you mean by an uprated OS.

I'd be willing to bet that prices will stay the same but the memory will go up. Don't buy any iPods until after September 9th at the earliest since there is an Apple Event that is apparently focusing on them. September has historically been iPod month, also.

Apparently the racing game shown above is a real app. But I still smell some fish in the air, remains to be seen but if totally true then its a must for me.

So two carriers officially released the iPhone 3G in Brazil today. The 8GB model costs R$1,999 (U$1,078.79) and the 16GB model costs R$2,299 (U$1,240.69). Monthly fee goes from 50 to 80 dollars depending of the plan.

Yeah, I don't think I'll be getting one...
