And Hong Kong

And planes.

The final run of a Pratt & Whitney J58, power-plant of the legendary SR-71 and lesser known A-12. This run which also used up the last of the JP-7 fuel stock was conducted September 12, 2002 by NASA personel at Edwards Air Force Base.

The Dubai pictures are just wow, esp. the night ones. There's so many colorful lights, but the city still gives off this eerie, dark setting unlike pictures of say, New York or Hong Kong. I wonder if there's just not a lot of street lights or the city is usually lit up by bluish instead of amber-colored lights at night.

The only thing slightly horrific about it is beginning a sentence with a conjunction, and even then it's not that bad since it's not formal writing.

Do know that your newsroom colleagues....
Do know this...
Please know that...

also,

"We can't buy you lost sleep"

...uh... no. Not remotely what they intended to say. How about:

"We can't buy you back your lost sleep"

or

"We can't buy you sleep"

or

"We can't return your lost sleep"

These people write for a living. I work with numbers. I'm the terrible writer, they're the superb writers. Why am I appalled at their mangling of the English language? It should be the other way around.

Evidently I'm an even worse writer, because it seems like this is just informal writing, it's not like they're writing a news column for a massive city here. Either that, or I'm so used to worse mangling of the English language that these tiny, miniscule arguments you're making are so miniscule as to not even register on the irritation scale.

To be fair, it was probably the bookkeeper that wrote the letter, and thus it probably bypassed the editor.

Oh, and the "89'98 butterfly". Learned of this when my daughter did a science project on butterflies.

It's really not difficult to comprehend the implied wording of that letter. Nothing I can do if you fail to grasp that concept.

No I agree, it's not difficult at all to comprehend the letter. It is difficult to comprehend how writers can be so bad at writing.

""A little over 30 years ago, a teenager named Jadav “Molai” Payeng began burying seeds along a barren sandbar near his birthplace in northern India’s Assam region to grow a refuge for wildlife. Not long after, he decided to dedicate his life to this endeavor, so he moved to the site where he could work full-time creating a lush new forest ecosystem. Incredibly, the spot today hosts a sprawling 1,360 acre of jungle that Payeng planted single-handedly."

Minty that is hands down to best thing I've seen in a very long time. The man deserves a Nobel prize.

Is that Rick Grimes from Walking Dead?

Also, I don't remember how exactly people dressed in 2001 but I'm fairly sure it wasn't that bad. Those people don't seem concerned at all...is this some sort of 80s/2001 photoshop?

People have been dressing poorly for decades, it wouldn't surprise me if the picture was 20 years old...

Though I don't think Rick would look that old 20 years ago.

Rick has aged more in 3 seasons than he did in the 10 years prior to the walker outbreak.

But I'm pretty sure the photo's legit. I could even go out right now and see a number people dressed just like any one of those guys. [/late 90s fashion black hole]

That photo is definitely legit. I remember seeing some CNN report on the backlash the photographer and the people in that photo got. Everyone was mad about how the people in the photo seem to not care and the people in the photo were mad at the photographer for capturing them in that moment without any context.

If every circuit in the 2013 Formula One season had the same start/finish line:

I think this is the right place for this, although I'm not entirely sure.

It's GTP, of course it's the right place.. I actually recognize a fair number of those courses, and I don't even follow F1.

I tried to follow every track from the starting line but it gave me a headache after 2 :(
