Now that - is a large shaft. :dunce:

I'd given up on a big, spindley chilli plant I grew, and put it in my hallway as decoration before letting it dry out and apparently die. Instead of chucking it out, however, I decided to chop it back to just a bare stalk of about 5", and see what happened if I fed it a bit... 29 days later, the result is quite unbelievable...

Here's what it looked like 29 days ago...

This (the shadowy triangle right in the middle) is the ~4,000m tall volcano on Tenerife, as photographed from 110 nautical miles away. The main reason I think it is cool? I took it by holding my phone to the eyepiece of a pair of binoculars.

I hate to ask, but what shadowy triangle?

I believe it be this:<snip>
Yep, that's it. We were amazed that we could see it. 100% certain it is the mountain though - a modern ship's bridge is a pretty good place with regard to knowing exactly what is in exactly which direction, and how far away it is.

I hate to ask, but what shadowy triangle?
No shame in not seeing it - there were people on the bridge with binoculars who took a while.

@Barra333

This picture contains the same volcano.

But even less visible.

I took it from here:

Puerto de Mogan on Gran Canaria.

Edit.

After some toying around, it becomes barely visible above the orange rope thingy that's on the rocks.

At first it looked like an old photo of Jupiter

Size REFERENCE matters! That is a neat shot by itself, but with the other boat you can understand WHY it's such an imposing shot!
