Today I had an awesome online race, by far the most thrilling (and the most fun) race I have experienced. The track was Nürburgring Type V and I think the restrictions were 600 PP. Great opportunity for me to try out the new Audi A4 touring car I just bought the day before!
I saved the replay afterwards, entered photomode, and here is the complete coverage of the story:
And there is the start!
As always, it's a tight field coming up to the first corner. The Audi looks gorgeous, of course
First corner was too tight for me and I got bumped off the road, not much, but enough to get me down to tenth place in this picture (second from right).
About halfway through the GP part I've started to work my way up the field.
Quite a bit of smoke there, to blind my competitors...
A close line through the last chicane before Nordschleife. I think these are positions 7 to 10 in this picture.
First corner of Nordschleife, this is where it begins! Side by side with the Ferrari.
The Ferrari turned out to be quite a special competitor for this lap.
What a beautiful car!
At Flugplatz, the Ferrari had got ahead quite a bit due to it being faster on the straights. I was left behind battling the back of the field.
... which isn't easy when you only got half of the track width to play with!
At Schwedenkreuz I had the outer line and the GT-R the inner. I stepped on the break early to avoid a potential bump off the road. The GT-R breaked way too late...
So he went offroad and I could concentrate on the Ferrari up ahead.
One of the strongest assets of the Audi touring car is its brakes. Thanks to them, I could save a lot of time in the previous corner and catch a second on the Ferrari.
Not that the Ferrari was slow, on the contrary! We were both gaining rather fast on the field ahead of us.
Some delicate breaking and the Ferrari sees an opportunity to pass the car ahead.
This part of the track here suits the Audi perfect! Pure joy to drive
Entering the hairpin, the yellow car had some problems and allowed me to pass. Not only that, but I also got a good line through the hairpin, allowing me to gain speed on the following straight.
Allowing me to pass the Ferrari, if only for a brief moment.
Its superiority on the straights meant that it could repair that quite easily.
But then again, you must remember to break as well!
Exiting the corner I could therefore overtake again.
Now, this is an interesting corner. The Ferrari caught up again, making another overtake, so not to cause a crash I stayed high in the entrance of the corner, while the Ferrari passed on the inside...
...then I made a sharp turn inwards, gaining momentum and exiting at a higher speed than the Ferrari.
During the overtaking oftwo slower vehicles on the fast "straight" following, under more or less chaotic circumstances, the Ferrari was luckier than me, allowing him to pull away.
Eager as I were to catch up, I stepped just a bit too hard on the accelerator...
... and spun out in Karusell.
Now I were way behind the Ferrari, and stuck behind the slower traffic again. For what seemed like an eternity I was constantly looking for opportunities to overtake, but without success.
But as an answer to my prayers, he had to break just a bit in the corner while I could go at full throttle, and like a bullet I flew ahead!
Getting quite a big gap in quite a small amount of time.
Meanwhile, the Ferrari had some disagreements with the tarmac, which allowed me to catch up and as we were entering the long straight I had contact again!
Now, the Ferrari is faster on the straights, but thanks to the slipstream I could keep an even pace.
We held a high speed entering the last corners, and this was where my grip paid off. The Ferrari went offroad while I managed to break in time.
And so I could cross the line as 3rd.
The race was 2 laps, but the second lap was just clean. The traffick ahead was so far away that I never had any contact, and the cars behind never caught up.
This was a great race race for me, I really love Nordschleife (the GP part not so much) and now I also love this car! I'm really happy about the competition from the driver of the Ferrari, it was really thrilling! I wish all races could be this intense.
