The biking thread

no thanks to a 15mph head wind for half of it (and of course it had to be the middle half ).

It didn't take me long after starting to ride my bike to become an amatuer meteorologist.
I always check the winds and plan my route ti ride into on the way out and with it on the way home, nothing worse than it turning halfway through though resulting in a head wind all the way.

I do that, too. It felt like the wind was out of the north but it turns out it was north north-west so it was in my face for lon get than i was expecting. Oh, well. If nothing else I've proven to myself that I don't need it to be a perfect evening to go for a ride. 👍

What year Specialized is it?

Went for another ride today. This time covering 10.1 miles (16.25km) in exactly 47 minutes, averaging 12.9mph, no thanks to a 15mph head wind for half of it (and of course it had to be the middle half ).

Did the same route and managed an average of 13.7mph and took 44:08. Slightly less wind than last night, which is likely the big reason for the better time.

Clip I took yesterday downhilling. The jump looks so small in the video.

These pictures are not me, but so you can see what the jump looks like.

Thinking of buying a Haibike Xduro Fatsix, wonder if anyone here have one or know someone that have one ?

It's this monster : Will be perfect for snow/mountain mud hopefully.

Well, my notifications for this thread seem to have taken a vacation. :grumpy: I just thought everyone had simultaneously got a puncture or something and had decided not to ride.

I was looking through more clips from Sunday and came across this. I got stuck behind this woman about 3/4 down the mountain and had no room to pass until the bottom. I got a screen grab of the (I hope you hit a tree) death stare she was giving me for riding a bit too close

Just finished my longest ride of the season:
I take it back. Tonight's ride: 15.1 miles, 14.4 mph average.

And 33 feet of elevation gain, although I have no idea where.
Your neighbourhood is completely flat? Much like the city here, there aren't any hills.
Yeah a zero ft gain over 13 miles is impressive to say the least.
A glacier made its way through here some time ago and made short work of leaving everything nice and smooth.

Also (click for larger):

Yep. Dead flat. Gorgeous evening, though!

Wow, 15.1 miles . That's up and down my driveway about 7 times!

I've neglected my bike for a while now. Not because I don't want to cycle, I just don't have motivation to do anything, I slack at work, haven't excersied at all and have been a bit lazy while Mrs Shem is away. She's back next week and has said she will treat my bike to a full service because I moan about having to keep it outside in the bike parking and not in the house were it should be.

Yup that's pretty flat.
TB do you mind sharing your Strava profile, I had a look and there's about 115 pages to go through.
Via PM if you choose to will be fine. 👍

I hunted you down and added you, @Pako and @W3HS. :)

Stalker! :D

My account hasn't been active this summer. I keep getting pushed to try and motivate me but the bike is still...., well.... winterized. I do need to get it out though. Maybe this will be some good motivation. ;)

So I've had my bike for a few months now, trying to ride a few times a week and been really enjoying it. I got my first flat yesterday, the local council had cut down all the overgrown bushes and brambles on this one particular route and after checking my tyres at the end, the back had a huge thorn stuck in it 👎

At least it was sunny

For anyone with Netflix, Macaskill Imaginate: Enter Danny's Mind is one there now. 👍

Is it a full length production? I love that guys ability to do parkour with a bike. Seen most of his YouTube stuff, I especially like Road Back Home. Immaginate seems to be on YT but it's only 7 minutes long. Can't be the same thing surely.

It's a 38 minute long behind the scenes covering the ideas, finding a venue, designing the set, him getting injured, then the finished 7 minute video.

I don't get scenery like that on my rides. :grumpy:
Try coming down to the valley near where i live. Some nice scenery down here and you definitely get the exercise on the hills :mischievous:. But I doubt you would want to drive 90 miles to get there though........

him getting injured.

I found the best part of the 7 minute video to be the end shots where he keep failing to make his mark and hit a pylon on most of the attempts.

It really makes me wonder why more riders don't put that much effort into making videos, I know he's with Red Bull but there are plenty of other trick riders who are capable of making those stunt films.
