Turnaround race?

cgg, thanks :)
I'm happy that you like the Z8 and want to join in.
Don't worry, the latest results are not from yesterday so you didn't miss out. Sorry if I confused you.
Yesterday was pre-1973 classic racing hosted by Smiley.
Next Z8 event will be held tomorrow (Saturday) quite late European time. Announcement will be made later on today.

Looking forward to seeing what you will bring to the track 👍
cgg
Sorry guys, but I'm really confused as to which racing is when. I'm interested in the Z8 Club mainly, and thought that there wasn't a Z8 race yesterday. When is the next race going to be?

Alright, I'll try that when I get back home. Thank you, Goofy.
Jocke said about the Indy race:
Great fight for most of the race between GOOFY and Smiley for the lead 👍

Yes it was a good and fair battle between us altough I was behind Smiley for several laps trying to put pressure now and then but was careful due to heavy damage. Finallly Smiley did the mistake I was waiting for at 1st corner on the 9th lap, after that I could keep the lead to the finishline :cheers:

Jocke, download the Daytona replay file I sent you. It´s a link to my Dropbox, as it works on my PS3 it should work on yours. I hope ;)

Thanks very much! I though those results were from yesterday, but I'm glad I haven't missed any racing. I'll see if I can make the next race, as I look forward to some fair and close racing 👍

The 'American Tour' was interesting and exciting (cockpit comparisons post #154, race results post #172).

But that is in the past, now it's time for the future.
This time our travels will take us on a 'Japanese Visit' with a short stop in Germany before we once again briefly disband our Club. Until next time. :)

*Look to the thread title for the start time of this event.*
Total event time prediction: ~90 minutes (depending on practice time)

We will gather in Motegi for a very early morning race.
And afterwards 16 helicopters will be standing by ready to fly us all
south down to Fuji for an afternoon race.
motegifuji_zpsaf34a72a.jpg~original

Air New Zealand will then immediately transport ourselves and our Z8's to Germany for a lap
around the Ring, or the Green Hell if you will.

Will it prove to be yet another battle for the lead between the two titans Goofy and Smiley?
z8boxinggoofysmiley_zpsd39be8b4.jpg~original

Or is there another up-and-comer out there who can give them a run for their money?
Time will let us know.

Qualifying:
*will once again be utilised, but only at the two Japanese venues. Not at the Nordschleife.
In the last event we qualified on our own with all opponents invisible to each other, this time I would like to try qualifying with all drivers visible. The shortest time setting will be used (5mins), and if it should not go down well at the first try in Motegi, I will change it back to invisible qualifying.
Let's try it! I think it could be much more exciting with all of us on the track simultaneously.
And I believe there is a certain amount of seconds passed before each car is let out on track, so there shouldn't be that much traffic. We just need to respect each other.

Yes, I know Smiley. I definitely need to improve on this and announce the races longer in advance than what I have done so far. Apologies for that. I'm still learning about hosting and am still very much a rookie.
great idea Z8 👍
That's nice of you to say, thanks Smiley :)

Just needs some advanced planning - and you're sorted.

Top marks on enthusiasm and presentation though. ;)
Thank you, If.
Yes, this has woken/shaken me up. After tonight I will have to announce a schedule for the future and when "Season 1" will end.
I am thinking Tuesdays and Saturdays from now on (continuing on using the same time of day as FergusMik's Mini series).
Let me know if that clashes with some other Club, if you'd like. 👍

And thank you for the nice comments. Appreciated.

That is some management you've got there :eek:
Larry David will constantly disagree and fight with all the other nine, count on it.

Thanks to everyone for coming out and allowing me the opportunity of snapping some photos of the car I enjoy the most at the moment. Those lines and curves! Combined with the open top it's a beauty. Only possible with the Z8.

And thanks for stopping by to say hello, If, even though you didn't make the grid. :)
Manny, you were missed.

^^ Great pictures.

Sorry Jocke, I was going to have at least one race with you but the sound problems I'd been experiencing earlier in Smiley's room followed me into yours. I gave in and called it a day.

Good to see those Z8's in action again. Also good to see @nonka (maximus) in a Z8!

3 races yesterday and some great, close Z8 action.
I think by now we can start calling Wayne Gratiot "Mr. Consistency", three starts and three straight 5th place finishes. 👍

cgg comes in as the new phenomenon and takes home 1st, 1st and 2nd (leading 15 of 16 laps). 👍

Race #10, however, saw the most amazing finish yet in the short history of the Z8 Club.
Pitorsk arrived for the final race of the night as an unknown dark horse, and stole the win in a most epic manner. That has just become one my favorite laps ever. And Pitorsk drove very honest and fair, always being mindful of his opponents.

Not since Michael Schumacher won from the pits at the 1998 British Grand Prix have I seen anything like this.
But that is just what Pitorsk did, he entered the pits from the lead while cgg kept going on the start/finish straight.

While Schumacher won comfortably by +22.465 seconds back in 1998, Pitorsk's winning margin
ended up as a mere 0.295 of a second!. Watch below for the photo finish.

z8nurb_zps379f0b05.jpg~original

First off, Pitorsk had a brilliant start off the line going from 6th to 4th by the entry to turn 1;
fyratill4_zps7adbb9fc.jpg~original

Then he might have braked a bit too early for he was tagged from behind by an unsuspecting WheelerTurner;
fyratill1_zps8f1832b7.jpg~original

Pitorsk went off the track and let everyone through (checking for damage?), rejoining in last place;
fyratill2_zps69459fc4.jpg~original

Four corners later Pitorsk took advantage of Maximus mistake in the Ford Curve and also overtook gurizzi in the process, for gurizzi had to take avoiding actions and slow down considerably;
fyratill3_zps6163c2a2.jpg~original

Up now then to his original starting position of 6th once again.

Pitorsk then proceeded to overtake myself by passing cleanly and perfectly on the inside of the Hatzenbach-Bogen straight;
Pitorsk8_zps45ac0438.jpg~original

Into the Nordschleife section now and Pitorsk quickly reeled WheelerTurner in and passed him when Turner lost grip and position on the track;
Pitorsk9_zps8f66ca32.jpg~original

Up into 4th now.

Here is Pitorsk perfectly lining up qken for a move up into 3rd;
Pitorsk10_zpsecb52062.jpg~original

So, only Goofy and cgg ahead now, and Pitorsk continued to soldier on forwards.
He steadily gained on the pair for the next 2-3 minutes until seeing them both
from within 50m of himself;

Pitorsk1_zps0743a38b.jpg~original

When the trio approached the Karussell only Pitorsk managed to hold the most ideal line,
cgg went far wide into the right (may have even gone off the tarmac) while Goofy spun towards the left hand side.
Pitorsk subsequently passed Goofy exiting the Karussell, but cgg held onto the lead (for a while);

Pitorsk2_zps5e179778.jpg~original

A few moments later cgg went wide again between Hohe Acht and Wipperman, and Pitorsk
stealthed his way into the lead!

Pitorsk3_zps4bd04b2f.jpg~original

Three corners later still, and cgg fought back barging his way into the lead once more;

Pitorsk4_zps953aa88f.jpg~original

Pitorsk decided to bide his time for a while behind cgg, stalking him brilliantly (without being
over-aggressive).

Finally on the long straight between Döttinger Höhe and Tiergarten, Pitorsk retook the lead with Goofy observing the events unfolding in front of him;
Pitorsk5_zps7df46968.jpg~original

When exiting the Nordschleife and rejoining the Grand Prix circuit Pitorsk made the crazy decision to dive into the pitlane, with the chequered flag waiting for him just 250m ahead!

Pitorsk6_zpsf94baf26.jpg~original

cgg gunned it down the straight but it wasn't enough (you can see Pitorsk in the pits);

Pitorsk7_zpse195a3c8.jpg~original

Chequered flag being waved for Pitorsk, with cgg and Goofy crossing the proper finish line. How very fitting that this amazing event played out right underneath the BMW logos, this being the BMW Z8 Club. You couldn't make this up if you tried;

Pitorsk had won the race from the pits! With a car wearing some battle scars in the rear. It can't have been at 100% performance. I have never seen anything like it.
From dead last to winning the race from the pits. I take my hat off to you, Pitorsk.

You drove responsibly and with a very cool head. People around you made mistakes but you kept it together and you raced smart, but also showed a lot of respect out there by not performing crazy maneuvers and/or kamikaze overtakes.
Many lesser racers would have exited the race when they found themselves in last place and things looking hopeless. But you went fast and never gave up. 👍
I'm proud to have participated in such a race. I hope to see you in the Z8 again.

*Standings will be updated soon..

He stalked me so well, that I didn't know he was there. If only I could have seen him on track, I might have known to try a little harder. I thought I'd won 3 out of 3! Nevermind, technology can't be helped, and it was great racing!

Nice set of pictures in both your last posts Jocke and the recap of the Nurb race was thrilling to read, very good 👍:bowdown:
It was good races all night but the thing I don´t like is when we are all on track at the same time during quali, I prefer solo, but it´s your event so you decide the rules :cheers:

Hey! I'm responsible for starting Pitorsk off on his incredible comeback from last to the win. If I had not plowed into his right rear on braking too late in the 1st turn and put him in last through no fault of his own, it would have been just your "average finish in the pits for the win and be drinking the bubbly before any other car shows up" victory. That would be boring. lol.

By the way, I hit him hard enough to cause his car to show right rear damage the whole race. That adds to the great drive to the win.

Also, I never saw cgg the entire race either. I thought I finished 4th and my replay showed that too. Shows you can't trust just 1 replay.

Wish I could have seen the race to the finish between you guys.
cgg
I wish I could have seen it too! That way I might not have taken it so easily round the last corner!
Since Manny wasn't with us, all other attempts at showing a video of this will pale in comparison to his great work.

At the moment I have no means to capture it other than with my phone or a HD camera. It wouldn't be perfect viewing,
but if you guys really want to watch it I could upload it.
