Race to the Hills!
Now we head to Apricot Hill for this challenge. The two long straights will help a lot here, as unlike most other No Tune challenges, we're using a car that is fast on a straight line, but struggles a bit in the corners.
For the first few attempts, I was suffering with understeer, but once I got the hang of the C4's handling and got used to the track, I managed to get on the groove and start racing for real.
We brake as late as we can into turn 1 to overtake the NSX and the Skyline Coupe. And right ahead of us is a run killer early on. The Evo X tends to block us into turn 4, and if that happens we lose a lot of time. We need to dive into his inside before that happens.
We now have our sister car, the C4 Grand Sport, up ahead. The best place to pass him seems to be Turn 7, the long left hander before the second big straight. We can then pass the Lotus Omega down the big straight, but sometimes we may not have enough speed, so we might need to wait for the hairpin to get him.
At this point, we usually get clean air until the end of Lap 1. Sometimes, we can reach the ZZ-S before it overtakes the Jaguar, but usually the next car ahead is the Jaguar S-Type. If the ZZ-S passed the Jaguar before we got to it, it will open a gap to it, and we just pass the Jaguar into turn 1. If we can get to the ZZ-S before the Jaguar is overtaken, we can get both of them into turn 1.
We will not catch the Charger until the end of Lap 2, at which point the ZZ-S will be right on its tail if it managed to overtake the Jaguar. We can usually get both of them at the chicane, just before the final corner. And now, it's time to catch the leading Elise on Lap 3.
And now things get interesting, because unlike in other challenges,
we have the power advantage this time. The C4 will gain so much time on the Elise on the two big straights that the Elise's cornering advantage will be rendered useless. We can get him just out of Turn 7, coming into the second big straight. And after that, just dash for the finish.
After a few runs, my best time was a
4:50.184. A decent time, but I lost a run that was arguably better by getting blocked by the Lotus Omega in Turn 7, so it's not really the best I could have done.
