I am working on a hypothetical GR5 class, compact cars, mostly front-wheel drive, between 175 and 200hp and less than 1100kg.
With these parameters the cars have about 550pp with sport soft and about 565pp with racing hard.
I think the last one may be a better option due to the tire limitation of custom races.

There is a problem with the 250hp option, a lot of cars are left out by not reaching that power with all the possible engine improvements

Group N remind me of the vintage race series, here in Australia. Cars featured are Minis, Mustangs, Mazda RX-2s. Well, cars built mainly before 1973.
In Super Taikyu, there’s the ST-5 class. Those are cars featuring 1500cc power plants. Mainly FF cars and Mazda Roadsters. Though Gr.5, in name to me, points to vintage Group 5. Featuring the CSL, Pantera, etc.

So, I can see where Group N can leave it open for Group 5 to be vintage race cars: including trans-am type cars.

550pp with sports medium, max bhp 236, add a roll cage, tow hook option A, and a beaten up look, where the body panels are different colours, maybe a couple of scratch marks and little bit of rust here and there... that's my GR5. You know, a real "grass roots" feel.

In my own attempts back in April to create a stable of theoretical Gr5 Class cars, I ended up with a max PP approaching 580. And I'm always for more performance than less. As in the race mod thread, I hand tuned my cars to run around Deep forest right at the limit of - for me - a 1:45 lap.

Edit: as of today, the most votes favor my specs, 580PP, racing hards.

Edit some more: along with racing, in-between fiction writing, I should livery up my cars sometime and share some pics with the class.

The idea of something between 175 and 225cv and 950 and 1100kg, depend of performance, with racing hard, convince me.
I try them at deep forest 😁
I can't wait to see a race between a mx5, a demio, an Abarth and a focus st. In my opinion this is the real essence of Gran Turismo, not Gr3 cars

Does that mean we could use the Lord and Saviour Toyota Aqua S '11 to dominate a category without rivals?
It really irritates the crap out of me that the Aqua, Prius and Fit don't allow transmission and engine upgrades or swaps outside of their original drivetrain. I was really looking forward to making some hyper modded minis, but it turned out to be a waste of time unless they make more daily races like we saw in week one.

I voted for the first option, because I feel like SS tires are closest to what these leagues would be run on (R compound street tires), and this would make the cars able to be driven well enough in rainy weather as well, whereas RH pretty much eliminates any chance of rain driving without a tire change.

I try that.

The abarth as you can see is 200cv 952kg, 572pp, with racing hard
The mini is 220cv 1085kg, racing hard.
there are pretty close with this setup.

But i still thinking that these cars are more fun with sport softs.
Im working more on it

I voted for the first option too. I like the idea of more weather options with SS, avoiding the extra cost of Inters and Wets.

not, its not absurd, i think with this power, is more correct
As I’ve basically turned my playthrough of GT7 into a car build simulator, I’ve found sports tires are a lot more pleasant and progressive in highly built road cars and have helped me more when building up the suspension and diff setups.

My AE86, Integra, Suzuki Swift, S14, and golf all sit around a range of 475-625 PP and minus the over-tuned Silvia, all of them feel really, really good on sports tires and don’t easily break traction.

I run these in my Super Taikyu custom races. They’re near stock engine numbers like the real regulations, have a PP range of 515(Honda), 482(Mazda), 530(Toyota). PP range of 546-560 have them at 214BHP/890kg(Mazda), 172BHP/890kg(Honda), 150BHP/885kg(Toyota). All with RH.
The Aqua is stuck with the CVT and adjusting the power curve. Have yet to run them separately, in a TT. However, the AI run in a battle pack during races. Along with the Roadsters. Demio has the greatest advantage with fuel. Naturally.

I’ll have to dial back the Euro turbo cars and Clios. Always fun working this stuff out.

Edit:
@Quakebass thought you were showing your Hot Wheels collection with the first two. Cool pics.👍

Love the Hachiroku!

Rather than a pp limit, what about a bhp per ton limit maybe say 250 bhp per ton that way you could have light nimble cars against higher powered barges, would be interesting I think

I think I’ve exhausted all Gr4 options so now i’ll be focusing on Gr5. I’ve decided to go with 550pp and stick with cars from the 90’s with a few exceptions. I’ve got 17 cars in mind that i will work on.

BMW M3 Sport Evolution ‘89
Chevrolet Corvette ZR-1 (C4) ‘89
Ferrari Testarossa ‘91
Honda Civic Type R (EK) Touring Car
Honda NSX Type R ‘92
Lancia Delta HF Integrale Evoluzione ‘91
Lamborghini Countach 25th Anniversary ‘88
Mazda RX-7 GT-X (FC) ‘90
Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution IV GSR ‘96
Nissan Fairlady Z 300ZX TT 2seater
Nissan R32 GT-R V-Spec II ‘94
Porsche 911 Carrera RS (993) ‘95
Renault Clio V6 24V ‘00
Subaru Impreza 22B-STi ‘98
Toyota Celica GT-Four (ST205) ‘94 Toyota Supra RZ ‘97
Tvr Tuscan ‘00

@DapperDan07 Totally with you on the '90s cars. When I proposed the whole Gr5 project many weeks ago, that was my focus. I dragged in a few later hot hatches and sports cars, but those older sports cars are the stuff, in my not so humble opinion.

It would be another dream come true for me if Kaz and the team took this up themselves, but we can have our own fun with it, thanks to "race mod!" :D

We also need a few "standard" number boards with number fonts and sponsors, like @Stakado has been using. I'm dragging my feet, making a post about the Gr5 project in the Livery and Racing boards.
