Some big news from the World of Darts tonight, Raymond Van Barneveld has announced his intention to retire immediately, we all knew he was retiring this year but he has been eliminated from the Premier League and lost out to MVG 7-1 in Rotterdam tonight in his last ever PL game in which he was very emotional.
His form in this years Premier League has been poor but he has shown signs of improvement making it to a Euro tour final at the weekend. I really hope he sleeps on this before making any rash decisions he still has something to offer and a lot to give.

Gerwyn Price won the Grand Slam Of Darts on Sunday beating Peter Wright 16-6 in the final, Gerwyn was in brilliant form all week and he beat Van Gerwen in the semi finals and Gary Anderson in the quarters, he is now up to a career high third place in the updated world rankings.
The PDC World Championship starts on December 13th.

Peter Wright (7) v Gerwyn Price (3)
Best of 11 sets, first to 6. Sky Sports Darts and Sky Sports Main Event from 7pm.
Its been a great tournament thus far, main talking point being female player Fallon Sherrock's historic run to the last 32, beating Ted Evetts and Mensur Suljovic and becoming the first ever female player to beat the men at the World Championship.

Firstly thank you for posting in this thread!
Secondly we will find out about this years Premier League during the final on Wednesday night, it will be interesting to see what they do with it next year as the contenders thing they did this year was really popular, the fans loved seeing the young talent competing every week and the players loved the opportunity (even though none of them actually won!) the only reason they did the contenders thing was because Gary Anderson couldn't compete with his back injury he had during the first five months of the year so we have to wait and see what they announce what for next year, but Fallon would be a good shout.

Peter Wright is the new World Champions after beating Van Gerwen 7-3 last night, it was thoroughly deserved as he was by far and away the best player last night, he completely out classed MVG who never really got going. I'm really happy for Wright and its a been long time coming for him.

2021 PDC World Darts Championship starts tomorrow night.
This year has been a weird one of course because of the pandemic, meaning the only time they have been crowds during tournaments are at events played in Europe, there will be a crowd of 1,000 spectators tomorrow night to watch some darts in the UK for the first time since Premier League Liverpool on March 8th.
Sadly however with London going into tier three lockdown on Wednesday tomorrow could be the only time we have spectators at the tournament, as from Wednesday until the 23rd it will be played behind closed doors.

Price beat Bunting 6-4 and Anderson beat Chisnall 6-3 in the semis tonight.
Price has now moved to world number 2 and if he wins the championship he will be world number 1.

A good final - I only saw it from 3-3 and thought Wright had had it when Smith was 2-0 up in the 10th set, but then it swung the other way. Smith seemed to be playing way too fast - his last dart in particular was always rushed and when he wasn't planting 180's (which requires no adjustment from dart 1 to dart 3) he was all over the place in the last 3 sets.
Wright, on the other hand, was phenomenal. He had the odd sketchy leg, but his averages in the last couple of sets was scary. I was annoyed at the crowd though, extremely disrespectful and Wright was quite noticably irked by the crowd after the game - he let his darts do the talking during the match though, and it was great to see him so consistently hit those doubles and shut up the idiots who were deliberately distracting him.

Smith was 2-0 and 5-4 up, Wright won 9 of the last 10 legs in an astonishing comeback, it was harsh on Smith as he had a great tournament but his time will come.
It was an excellent tournament overall with some brilliant matches and three nine-darters! It was marred by three players testing positive and having to withdraw, Van Gerwen being the biggest name.

Just been going through this thread from when I first started it nearly 10 years ago, full of nostaglia with some of the darting names mentioned who are no longer playing.
Anyway PDC World quarter finals have started with Dimitri Van Den Burgh beating Jonny Clayton 5-3, Smith v Bunting is on now and tonight its Price v Clemens and Van Gerwen v Dobey, semi finals is tomorrow night with the final on Tuesday night.

Michael Smith is the 2023 PDC World Champion after beating Van Gerwen 7-4 in a superb final last night, its Smith's first ever world title and it was well deserved.
The match will be remembered though for what happened in the third leg of the second set in what possibly could be the greatest leg of darts of all time. Both Smith and MVG went for 9-darters with MVG missing the double 12 but Smith followed through in his.

2024 PDC World Darts Championship starts tomorrow, reigning champion and number 1 seed Michael Smith in second round action, the player to watch out for is Luke Humphries as he has won the last three TV majors and climbed up to number 3 in the world.

So the World Championship is nearing its end, tomorrow is quarter finals day. This tournament really has been all about 16-year old Luke Littler who plays like someone twice his age! The World Youth Champion is in the quarters having knocked out 5-time champ Van Barneveld in the last 16. Quite a few seeds have fallen including number one seed and reigning Champion Michael Smith. Wright, Price, Aspinall, Wade, and Anderson all out.

The youngest ever finalist at a world championship had an unbelievable tournament beating the likes of Van Barneveld and Cross along the way and he plays with the composure, temperment and game management of someone over twice his age, its put way more exposure on Darts as well with almost 4 million tuning in to watch the final which is a record for Sky outside of Football.
No surprise that Littler is in this year Premier League when the line up was announced a little earlier.

MVG didn't play badly, and scored more 180s than Littler (13 v 12) - but arguably it was Littler's incredible checkout rate that won him the final... a staggering 55.55% (25/45 attempts at doubles, compared with MVG's 14/38).
Littler ended up with a 3-dart average of 102.73 in the final, and MVG 100.69.
I really enjoyed the tournament and watched it all courtesy of PDC's own highlights on YouTube, except for the final where I watched TalkSport's live commentary - I refuse to pay £15 for 24 hours of non-HD access to Sky Sports!

It was a great tournament, Littler and Van Gerwen were the standout players but there were a few other worth mentioning, Chris Dobey and Stephen Bunting for making to their first semi finals, Peter Wright and Gerwyn Price for making the quarter finals after tough years for both, Wright knocked out defending champ Luke Humphries in the last 16, unseeded Callan Rydz made the quarter finals. Iceland delivery driver Rob Owens made the last 16.
Quite a few seeds and big names went out early, the likes of Michael Smith, James Wade, Gary Anderson, Dave Chisnall and Van Barneveld all knocked out in the second round.
There were two nine-darters by Christian Kist and Damon Heta, both then lost their matches!
