This idea seems kind of interesting.
My thoughts though to keep it reasonably lively and not too monotonous would be to use the car with the lowest range, I think that would be the iMiev at 100 miles average range. But rather than drive as slowly as possible a pace lap could be set, perhaps between 125 to 150% of the fastest lap that car could set then we could all try to keep within that range. Anyone setting average lap times below that band would be penalised perhaps with laps taken off their end total.

This for the iMiev would take, assuming 50 mile range due to the slightly higher than average speeds, about 1 hour.

Then we'd all start dropping off :D

Would be nice to have the Nissan Leaf in the game for this, but I refuse to complain. :dopey:

I like both those ideas (the low range car and setting a pace lap).

Would be interesting to see how different the racing line is and how people deal with hilly courses in this challenge.

Cape Ring comes to mind..

In Amar212s thread he states that "Prior to the race start you can choose Depletion of Tyres/Fuel "

So presumably we could make these challenges shorter by starting on only half a tank of fuel.

Boring , Lifeless , Expensive , Slow , Heavy , Take forever to recharge , Hybrids only do up to 55mpg mostly and Electric cars run out of juice after less than 500 miles

BLEAK MOTORING AND RACING :yuck:

If you despise it that much then don't do it. Simple.

I've been watching slowly on this thread. Its seems like quite an interesting idea. I think you should also require a restriction to comfort tires. Apparently the N has been dropped according to Amar. But these kinds of tyres you would find realistically on these types of cars. Maybe what would be the equivalent of N2s on all participating cars. It would also test the skill to keep a solid amount of grip to make sure each car gets the most out of it. A Prius may not have much issue with this, but a Tesla or DNX driven by a hot head may find themselves rolling to a stop quite quickly.

Ever driven a hybrid? I've gotten 80 mpg on short jaunts in a Prius.

And I've drifted one all the way round a roundabout. Not something possible with most new cars with more grip than butt.

I've actually started hypermiling in my truck ('02 Tacoma Prerunner) and it's getting addicting... that darn Scangauge is causing me to abuse the slow lane up and down hills, take brazen racing lines around corners to conserve momentum, and never fill my tank past half. After my tailgate, wiper, and mudflap deletions (and little aero mods here and there) I'm getting 23-27 avg MPG on most trips, with a record of 29.5 avg MPG. This from an EPA quoted 15/18 vehicle. I'm getting way into this!

So, yes. I would love to enter an online hypermiling league. Add my PSN and message me for a slow, fun time! :)
