The American way of doing a world sport.

Wow, that's an "integrity of the sport" issue. If NCAA football officials saw stuff like that they'd fine and suspend that player. I certainly hope that the video footage prompts some action by whatever the sport's governing body is. Because if not, it compromises identity of the women's soccer.

Those refs were terrible too. She should've been red carded immediately.

The fallout...

The heat was on in a Mountain West women's semifinal soccer game yesterday between Brigham Young and New Mexico.

New Mexico defender Elizabeth Lambert's physical play is all over the Internet today -- and rightfully so -- after the 5-8 junior punched, kicked and roughed up just about any BYU player unfortunate enough to cross her path.

The video below tells the full story and shows Lambert shoving one player, kicking another, kicking the ball into another's face (for which Lambert received a yellow card) and finally violently yanking an opponent to the ground by her pony tail.

Amid a hoard of attention from the blogosphere today, New Mexico announced that Lambert has been suspended indefinitely from all team practices, competition and conditioning activities.

"I am deeply and wholeheartedly regretful for my actions," Lambert said in a statement posted on the school's web site. "My actions were uncalled for. I let my emotions get the best of me in a heated situation. I take full responsibility for my actions and accept any punishment felt necessary from the coaching staff and UNM administration. This is in no way indicative of my character or the soccer player that I am. I am sorry to my coaches and teammates for any and all damages I have brought upon them. I am especially sorry to BYU and the BYU women's soccer players that were personally affected by my actions. I have the utmost respect for the BYU women's soccer program and its players."

Am, I the only person that sees these apologies and imagines a legal site with that paragraph with blanks for the nouns and verbs?

I am deeply and wholeheartedly regretful for my actions. My actions were uncalled for. I let my emotions get the best of me in a heated situation. I take full responsibility for my actions and accept any punishment felt necessary from the _____________ and _______________. This is in no way indicative of my character or the ______________ that I am. I am sorry to my ______________ and ___________ for any and all damages I have brought upon them. I am especially sorry to ___________ and the _____________ that were personally affected by my actions. I have the utmost respect for the _______________ and _____________.

Yep, that looks about right.

No, I'd bet $50 she got that from legal counsel. What a bitch.

Not that any of us will be paying attention, but my guess is that the remaining soccer matches will be ref'd quite strictly so as not to end up on youtube again. I'm sure this has been a major embarrassment for many people.

If they could actually produce another "93 Taurus" brand new and sell it somewhere around 10 grand... Money would come in so horribly quickly it's not funny.

Yeah, if car companies did that it would be awesome. Some old cars just deserve to be produced forever.
