No V8 possibility for the new Nomad and Bel Air? Garbage.

It depends really, with this new CAFE standard likely to be passed, I'm sure that GM may avoid the V8 altogether in cars like these, particularly when the LY7 (and its variants) can produce similar, if not more power than the LS1 fewer than seven years ago. But, its all on a "what if" basis at the moment, particularly dependent on what engines debut by 2010, how big the Alpha chassis is, where the transmissions stand, how far technology has developed in three or four years, etc.

If GM does in fact build a "cheap" 4.5-4.8L petrol V8 with DOHC, VVT and cylinder-deactivation, that easily could be placed into the Alpha car. Matched with a six-speed automatic or manual, highway mileage (with proper gearing) could easily exceed 33+ MPG if tuned correctly.

...Plus, there are always those pesky diesels going about...

My dream version of each model?

2011 Chevrolet Bel-Air
LTZ V6 with six-speed manual transmission
Victory Red paint
18" Aluminum S/S-style wheels
"Classic" packaged, includes white folding top, aluminum on the dash, chrome on the sides, complete with two-tone red/white paint.

2011 Chevrolet Nomad
LT with optional 2.9L diesel V6 (250 BHP, 406 lb-ft), six-speed automatic
LeMans Blue paint
16" Rally-Style wheels
"Classic Package," includes white top and mirrors, chrome side trim with two-tone blue/white paint.

And maybe wings that enable it to take off? Maybe a weight of over 8000 pounds?:dopey:

Pah.

My Biscayne weighs as much as my E320. That's less than half of eight thousand pounds.

I'd like to see some sort of '59 Biscayne inspired concept. Things are cyclical. Round headlights are coming back, maan. I see the future!
