I'm wondering how you could punch someone with a turtle.

You're joking, right? :ill:

So you don't know the evils of anime? You bet there are people who have such obsessions. It is disgusting how they can escape reality to that extreme. Shows you may have watched that parody these sorts of people aren't fiction.

Stuff like this has made news before in the past... like that one dude who actually got approved to marry some companionship character for some DS game. I think there was a dispute at the time on defining what you are and aren't allowed to be married to, because if you think about it, it's human with a portable electronic device. It's pretty shocking. It wasn't done alone, there was a whole ceremony that took place. There was a priest, the dude's family and IIRC news report photographers.

Did you make sure to watch End of Evangelion? Some people forget to...

Anyway, NGE is my second favourite anime that isn't a Ghibli film. Probably ranks as about my fourth or fifth favourite if you count Ghibli. Serial Experiments Lain is more enjoyable to watch than NGE, IMO.

None of those are better than Evangelion in the slightest, and even though the following is pure personal opinion, I'd say they're not even as closely enjoyable, expecting to be backed by the mayority here, so he's still right.

*sighs and waves the white flag*

Personally, I never liked End of Evangelion; I thought that it was a gratuitous, unnecessary, pretentious, convoluted and often outright ridiculous hour-and-a-half session of Hideaki Anno systematically ****ting all over an entire TV series' worth of characterisation and plot development. I "understood" the film perfectly well - I just felt that it destroyed the storyline progression and proper ending that the preceding 24 episodes of NGE were building up to, and did so in a wholly unenjoyable and grotesque manner.

People call it a "work of genius". I say that the director was suffering from either an under-dose or an over-dose of his meds; I've no aversion to the "weird", but EoE just takes the piss. It takes the piss out of the fans, the characters and the storyline in fairly equal measure - and watching it just made me angry. Anno might as well have sent each and every fan of the original series a note saying "up yours, sucker" and made them pay him for it.

The TV series and the Rebuild movies were good, though.

And that's why you're not Anno. I always preferred the original TV ending to End of Evangelion. The TV ending had me laughing non stop for about 8 hours after I saw it, whereas End merely had me giggling at

everybody hugging and turning into tang while a cheesy ballad with incredibly morbid lyrics plays.

Perhaps that's just me though.

The original TV ending also gives us the couple of minutes in the entire series where the American dub is better than the original Japanese.

Well, that and this scene:

Episode 8 of Watamote was... Awkward, in a funny way.

Basil Fawlty would be proud.

It worries me that it's supposedly "semi-autobiographical", however.

I think you misunderstood my statement...

Dear god, I hope you were joking...

If you were around in the glory days of TGAT, when there'd be at least 80 posts per day here, you'd probably know if that's the case. ;)

That's exactly why the movie was made, actually. I personally enjoy EoE but it is a big middle finger to the fans.

I cannot tell if I'm a himedere or a dandere. I don't smile a lot so I couldn't have possibly reached the dandere end, but at the same time, that's probably more accurate than himedere.

Uck, boring.

Goes to show the bias of opinions on Evangelion in this thread.

Watamote ep 9... What a let down.. No cringing... To make it worse, expect no resolution any time soon (spoiled myself with the manga). I'm going to take a break from watching Tomoko's endeavors for a couple of weeks.

I'm a kuudere until Shinji tells me that I can try smiling, at which point I become a dandere.
