I don't get that Uganda/Knuckles meme yet, but...

Blend S opening parodies are still fun.

  • Likable characters
  • Well-written
  • The programming
  • Many people can relate to the characters' problems
Sayori's depression, Natsuki's abusive father, Monica's feeling of helplessness in something she has no control over
  • The meta way it calls out the visual novel harem formula
  • The way it ends is pretty great
  • It's just a game that leaves a lasting impression on most
At least, that's what I've gathered from people's playthroughs and comments on the game.

I don't know. I feel Undertale did most of those bullet points better. Aside from the Harem thing. Undertale doesn't have a Monika though so there's that.

Somebody show this man de wae.

The Japanese Touhou wiki's popularity poll is up and running. And for the first time in forever, my votes were exactly the same as before. My Touhou opinions are officially set in stone. Perhaps that's why I stopped blogging about it.

(For those who care, this is what I voted.)

I also wrote a thing about Idolmaster ages because so many people were talking about them where I go.

Although an awful lot of it is just one character. And I've got plenty more of her left yet...

Kusano Shinta. Although I can't help thinking you've missed out the most crucial detail of them all.

If you're going to say butt, surprisingly I disliked that part the most. I feel the artist screwed up perspective a bit on that part.

Looked up the rest of what I could find of the artist. Alright stuff. Definitely above the median of what I've seen. Thanks for sharing.

I get what you mean, but I've seen worse. For instance, it's a damn sight better than what iM@s' actual artists did with her in that very costume.
Thing is, I'm mostly immune to them in 2D...unless I think it looks good. And if it does look good, it's, like, instant top tier art for me. And I think Mika is damn fine there.

Speaking of which.

That is the resident gimmick grandmaster and highly popular idol, Nana, finally getting a perm SSR. It's been a long time coming.
And that means there's only one properly important voiced idol (plus two lesser ones) yet to get a permanent SSR...and it's Mika. I dearly hope they do her justice with whatever it turns out to be. I'm starting to properly fall for her as well. Quite badly.

Not really a episode spoiler but

I can only wonder how she will react and respond and change once she learns the truth about Major.

Mamma Mia. That's only a sketch. You ought to check out what KyoAni made of her.

Also:

Kokkoku is starting off pretty good! Drip some blood on a magical stone, and bam, time stops, you move freely.

I thought the same too :

Can't wait to see Violet reaction to what happened to Major. She also needs time to developed to understand feelings and emotions.

And for Cattleya, yeah she's attractive after I saw it in anime I admit. Seems a bit off when I first saw it, but she is much better in animated form. Guess KyoAni always pulled out good and attractive character design in my opinion.

I might looking for some fanart of Violet (and Cattleya) later... :P

There isn't much at this time. I'd probably give it like another 6 episodes before someone with some respectable skill dishes something out.

Are you lot familiar with Death Parade? If so, what would you call the architectural style of Quindecim? Examples in spoiler:

Death-Parade-11.jpeg

The best way I can describe it is that it's a neoclassical design, with beautiful lighting that is just bright enough to see where you're going. There are a lot of colours going on but at the same time it feels dark and muted. I wish I was better at describing architecture but I'm afraid that's the best I got. If anyone can steer me in the right direction that would be great, because I really like this sort of design.

I watched Death Parade and as much as I'd like to be a know-it-all with art, I do not have an answer for this.

Some dokidoki lit club character. Can I just mention how gorgeous Artgerm did the shadows on the hair? Hella striking.

Edit again because you lot are saggy football oppais.

I'm beginning a new project, potentially leading into something bigger if this does tap into a market that gains popularity. Scaled weapons (approx 12" / 30cm) from your (actually my) favourite shows.

I'm starting with Dead Scythe from Black Rock Shooter, though I'm in a slight dilemma which one I want to go with. Both have their ups and downs and making a hybrid of the two seems like a bastardization of the huke's ideation.

So this Tuesday, I learned of the movie called A Silent Voice, or Koe no Katachi in Japanese, and the premise was really interesting to me. I checked the one cinema chain that airs animes in Denmark, and as luck would have it, that very Tuesday was the very last showing for the movie. However, I had to work that evening, and so had to give up on seeing in on the big screen. But having just hyped myself up to see it, I went online, and ordered the Blu-Ray, which arrived at my home today.

And what a nice movie. The animation is beautiful, with the fluidity of the character movements taking the spotlight. In terms of audio, it's mostly a very subdued experience, with a few exceptions where music and bass kicks in. The real highlight of the movie, however, is its handling of its characters, of which there are many. It's easy for movies and shows that deal with subjects like bullying, anxiety and loneliness to fall back into cliché characters that are either fully good or fully bad, but in this movie, no such thing exists (One could perhaps argue that Nishimiya is a bit Mary Sue-ish). Everyone is flawed, no one is outright evil, and confrontations are brought on through differing personalities and perceptions rather than the plot needing someone to be an ass. It's not perfect, and sometimes I think it had a hard time making motivations or intentions clear, but for the most part, I think it did a really good job fleshing out characters and developing their relationships. Definitely worthy of being added to the collection.

I think it did a good job at avoiding melodrama, which is a huge plus for me.

Really surprised that it did not evolve into a full on romance, which I had expected it to

My biggest complaint would probably be that the movie did somewhat ignore the fact that Nishimiya tried to kill herself. It really needed to spend some more time on that element, I think. Additionally, I was rather perplexed by how she doesn't appear to harbor any ill will towards Ishida, despite how he had threated her.

Soooo... just watch two recent episodes from After the Rain (Koi wo Ameagari no You ni) and Violet Evergarden. Here is my thought so far. First up, After the Rain :

724763.jpg

I don't know why I did watch this in the first place and ended up liking it. I've tried first episode of it and found pretty good. Then goes to second I was like "well that escalated quickly" And finally, the latest episode surely gain my interest to know how the story progresses and how the romance aspect (yes it is romance x slice of life anime) will work through time.

The reason why this show gained my interest is how fast for such confession being said and the main heroine, Akira is a quiet yet pretty straightforward 17 year old high school girl having crazed with her workplace manager Kondo, which is 45 years old. Now that's a big age difference right there. The interesting part is, how that's gonna work? Teenage girl and middle aged man? That is what this anime is going to sorted out through episodes.

Also, this anime is really, really sweet. The interactions between Akira and Kondo makes me smile and sometimes a bit of chuckle. This one is also quite cozy and relaxing to watch in my opinion. Something that can lighten up your mood for a while. Can't wait to see what next!

And here my first impression of Violet :

Being the most anticipated anime of the year means Violet Evergarden should give assuring first episodes to audience. And it did in my opinion. Character design is gorgeous, animation is no doubt because KyoAni working on it and story plot were also quite promising. Here we seen a beautiful yet innocent (not entirely innocent though because she is an ex-soldier) Violet learn new stuff everyday. She will met kind of people with different personalities and of course, emotions. With understanding more of those kind of emotions means that she can understand people's heart and her as well. That is also a key to search lost memories of her beloved Major, until she knows the truth...

So far it is fine in my opinion. However, the latest episode did get me a bit moody and touched. Like how Violet trying to understand the purpose of her going to Doll's training school and got new friend Luculia (sorry if a bit mispelled) as this new friend trying to interact and communicate with Violet in the process they get closer. Then at the end she asks Violet to talk and make a letter but Luculia ended tell of her life with her brother and how her parents is now gone. She just leave and can't hold her feelings she felt. After listening all of Luculia's past story, Violet decided to wrote a letter and sent it directly to Luculia's brother. And it worked. Also, Violet started to get her memories back. That would be the key to what actually happened to Major...

Guess this anime would be expected as feels train and it does. Hope it can show more episodes like this but with more deeper scenario or even conflict. Strong melodrama is what this anime need (but not too much)

And that's my damn long review. Next as usual some pics dump but this time is... you guessed it :

That is actually pretty cool if happened though. Would like to play it

Male version. This one have subtitles for lyrics and you can see how self aware this show is lol :

With those things, now I'm sold... By the way this episode also featured seiyuus (voice actor/actreses) from my favorite shows! :D :

Female version :

Nice to hear Yoko Hikasa and Ritsu voice actress (forgot her name though...) in this episode. But I'm even glad to hear Ryo and Umibozu (City Hunter) having fun in this episode! :D

Meanwhile...

You know which bit of that idol hell I don't miss? The fanbase. I know for sure that it has its good eggs, but more than anything I found myself seeing the part that, ultimately, I was completely at odds with. And they were at odds with my approach to the series, too. I'm just so glad I've found a fandom that, by and large, befits my attitude towards characters much, much more. Yes, it's a long way off perfect itself but I'm so much more at ease with it than nearly any other group I've encountered.

I also saw further discussion about other elements in the place I found that article. Most of which makes me even happier I gave it up.

Really? I've always found the IM@S bunch to always get really defensive that it's better than Love Live.

Fans attitude sometimes makes me scratch my head and think "is that really necessary?" Being together and having fun with your fandom is fine, but at least keep it low and being responsible to others. And respect your fellow friends too. Also, don't steal their chocolate lol.

It isn't the fandom that is bad in my opinion, but it is about how us as a loyal fans (and human being) behaved and react towards our favorite franchise that could give either positive or negative impact towards society.

It's similar to people who always have something to prove, such as about how much better their car is than yours, how much better my house is, how much better my tastes are in things than yours, how much more I know about this, how much more I care.... it's largely a thing of wanted to be the top of everyone, which I think later is used to justify one's sense of entitlement and opinion over another.

(I think...) All they want is to be some respected person in life. They may not be in society, so they look at doing anime since you don't need to socialize in person. There's no need to feel a sense of empathy or consideration for others. Sometimes I think that if everyone avoided making statements that is just asking for people to disprove them, we wouldn't have highly opinionated negative (and possibly condescending) thoughts and attitudes.

That said, have you guys started Mahoutsukai yet? It's a great feel good show! Have you started Kokkoku yet? It's a pretty good supernatural show! C'mon!

Not yet. Have you watched Pop Team Epic by the way? The humour is probably not for everyone (mostly parody), but I found it suit to my liking. And guys... how about the new Cardcaptor Sakura? Madhouse did a nice job so far to keep it true to the original anime that aired 20 years ago. Good piece of nostalgic watch I guess. However, there is new stuff coming up and I can't wait to see how it goes. I also recommend After the Rain (Koi wo Ameagari no You ni) for some sweet and lovely romance series this season.

Oh, speaking about Madhouse I think Overlord S2 need some time to warm it up. Not yet feel thrilled with this new season yet though. But last episode is quite good.
