What an amazing fall from grace for the Ontario Liberals. From 15 straight years of mostly majority rule filled with brutal fiscal mismanagment and scandal to not even having official party status because they failed to meet the minimum seat requirements. Well deserved IMO, but surprising nonetheless. I do hope the Liberals end up regretting their decision in 2003 not to elect to grant the NDP official party status after they failed to meet the minimum seat threshold. Official party status means they may not have the right to speak during debates or ask questions during official question periods. It also means no handouts for caucus offices or bonuses for house leader, party whip etc. You basically become invisible in many ways and have to start over. To put it into perspective, they've had control of Ontario for much of the last 30 years but will have the same official status in Queen's Park (where the Legislature is) as the Green Party which just won it's first ever seat.
