It's actually pretty involving. Running low tire pressures, sometimes with water in the tires to help them float. Maintaining traction in almost 0 traction conditions...it's actually better to sling the mud around because it cleans the treads out letting them grip again. The need for high horsepower and torque to move a heavy vehicle through very stressful situations., beefed up suspensions and strangthed chassis...there's a ton that goes into it. Mudding is probably the hardest thing you can do to a vehicle. Its a sign of strength in the vehicle. You'll see a lot of old trucks doing it more often because they had very sturdy underpinnings. It's nothing to see 600-1000hp V8's running around in these things. Hell I've even seen them with 1500+, naturally aspirated. The engines are anywhere from stock to a mild build, to nowehere near stock. People lift them stupid heigh because they need the ground clearance...some of the pits these trucks go through are up to 8-9 feet deep of extremely thick mud. They also drag race and what not. It's just fun to do. Basically, if you make it through one of those pits, you've got a vehicle that can basically go anywhere and do anything you throw at it.Slash, I just watched like 1.5hrs worth of mudding videos on youtube. I still don't get it.
Plus, it's just fun to get out there and do donuts, sling mud around and make it through seemingly impassable sections of land.
