No rotary, no v12, no v16, no v8 can top that baritone magnificent straight 6 to my ears.

I love how deliciously bassy the noise becomes when the engine is under full load and you hear nothing but induction roar of the 6 velocity stacks, but on downshifts and low-load, high rpm throttle, you hear the screaming exhaust note. It's just perfect. Absolutely perfect.

BMW´s straight sixes are legendary. As is their F1 V10´s.

Oh and their V12 engines... :)

And the brand that does the best F1 V12 engines on the planet is Ferrari.

Music to my ears... FXX goodness...

Edit:

Oh yeah and this one ;)

I think I've posted this video in here before but just listen as he punches through the gears, struggling for grip after the hairpin (1:08). That's a wonderful V12.

Body is crap and the motor needs a bigger filter but hey. A small block Ford, 351 Windsor (V8), one of the best Ford engines (it even outlived it's out replacement).

I love this, cheak out the related videos, they sound even more badass in trucks. (Had 2 in mine, both built)

Two great engines turned up to 11.

This thread makes me wish that I had recorded the November Grand-Am test at Daytona. The Brumos Porsche GT3 going around alone in the morning was literally the greatest sound at the test.

If only Birmingham was like this...

Digging the M3, not so much the C63. Just sounds weird to me, like it has a "flutter" to it. Don't get me wrong, I'd love to own that car but I wouldn't put that exhaust on it.

Those were the glory days of WRC..

Not really the glory days, that vid is after the Scoobys had lost their distinctive sound. Add to that the WRC cars had to be driven in a more controlled manner than the Grp. A cars and your left with cars that aren't as exciting to watch or listen to.
