As a reference picture for something you make yourself, yes, but no direct copy/traced work.

@Baliwa his work is exactly what I want to see in this contest!
Ah well, I'm out. My livery was hilarious too, but I won't be able to draw the things I need.

I know I’ve been absent from competing in these things for a few months, but the deadline for this particular competition is ridiculous.

You have a couple of weeks to not only come up with a totally original design, draw the decals you need/want and then to manually import the SVG files yourself (most users I think it’s fair to say, have little experience doing this).

If this ran for a month or two it would give people far more time and also if JK was able to provide some examples of work he’s done previously to help inspire people...

Pretty agree with this, maybe only with this challenge we need more time. Making from scratch really consume the time not only we have some restrictions on svg size, for some inexperienced like me that pretty taking so long time and tiring.

For myself why I make done fast it just because I need focus to my 2nd account grinding for make it back to A again plus I making some thesis so I always try make fast as possible.

For idea I can suggest todo some word play, or use Google translate to messing with some word.

So , if we are unable to design and/or upload our own custom brands , can we use GT Sport's fictional logos ?
That would help time-wise, but at the same time would kinda destroy the theme of doing it all in-house...the focus of the theme is not having a fictional sponsor, but to create your own one.

I kind of agree and we can add an extra week but I’m not sure it would help to bring more people in.

Most of the people who think this theme is too hard wouldn’t came in anyway.

But the extra week will be helpful for those who are already participating.

So far I've got 3 made up companies, all of which have some kind of image I scanned, plus text I've added. I have made up the livery design, the companies and their logos. Surely that should be enough?

I have to agree with @daan here, The time limit isn't too bad, Take the below example Aside from the line drawing which I don't have to skills to do everything else is made by me, Quite a difference I think people would agree, Its however a rough first attempt but I was hoping it would fit the rules which sadly it doesn't.

For me it’s fine. You may have used a base image but the « logo » and I guess the livery with it are fantasy. Hopefully @JKcreativeworks feels the same ?

from what JK said yesterday, the need to do EVERYTHING from absolute scratch just totally threw a spanner in the works. not only for me, but what about those who have no idea with vectors or using anything remotely close? Then the whole design is put upon the generosity of those in the svg upload thread. Even then, to have a complete design made by someone else will take lots of back and forth which means time.

I'll struggle to churn out a livery if we have to do everything by hand. I have 2 little ones who demand a lot of time, a job that's more demanding than my Mrs and then a Mrs on top of that. Even with an extra week, it would still be a stretch. This is certainly more of an entry for the more creatively talented people. Allowing logos (less popular), but enforcing that it must be modified would help a lot
this is incredibubble!

To help those who have said they would have trouble or not enough time to make logos, I'm going to go through what I did to create my logos. Most of my logos only took a few minutes to create and didn't use any complex methods.

1. Think of a company name and find a font that suits it. This is probably the longest part of the process. If your struggling for ideas, find a place where this company could be. I needed and oil company, where is there oil? North sea. Where is a place near the north sea? Caithness and now Caithness Oil sponsor my car. If that doesn't work, find an existing company and change their name using a thesaurus. I used Duracell, which is like durable and cells. What are similar words? Super and Power and boom, we now have Superpower Batteries sponsoring my car. And now to find the font, dafont.com is a great place to download free, creative fonts. I went for the Sans Serif and Fixed Width sections to get clean, bold fonts but it really is up to you how you want your logos to look. You can also type your company name into the preview bar and it will show it in the fonts. View media item 45077
2. Type the company name in Inkscape. If you don't have Inkscape you can get it here - https://inkscape.org/ Its a free, open source program to make vector graphics and is available on Windows, mac and Linux. Type your company name using the text icon on the left of the screen. Then select the font and size from the top left. You can also click and drag parts of the name to change to different sizes and colours as you would in MS Word etc. View media item 45078
2B. Let's add some outlines. Outlines aren't as hard as you may think. On the right of the screen you will see Fill and Stroke. Fill is the block of colour that make up the letter while stroke is the edge of the letter. Highlight the text you want to alter, then click the Stroke Paint tab and change the X to Flat Colour next to it. You can also change it to gradients and patterns but I haven't tried those yet. If you fancy trying them, remember Ctrl+Z is your friend. You can also click the Stroke Style tab to change the width and pattern of the outline. You can also change the fill to X and only have the outline of the text. View media item 45079
3.Preparing the text. Once your happy with the look of your text, click the mouse icon in the top left and then drag over to select all the text. Then go to Path > Object to Path. This will turn the text into shapes that will be shown in GT sport. Here in now the time to re-position parts of the text if you want. Double click to ungroup the text and then click and drag to select the text. You can also adjust the scale here as well. View media item 45080
4. Saving as a .svg . Assuming your are now finished with your logo, click and drag over your whole logo and then go to File > Document Properties. A box will pop up and them click Resize page to content and then Resize page to drawing or selection. You should see the canvas retract to the size of your logo. Then close this box. Then go to File > Save As and save as a plain SVG. We are now done with Inkscape. View media item 45081
5. Optimising and uploading to GTS. Now to get the logo under the 15kb limit. Go to https://jakearchibald.github.io/svgomg/ and upload your file. At the bottom right it will tell you how big your file is and how much it can be optimised. Adjust the precision slider to get it under 15kb and then click the blue arrow to download the optimised logo. If your logo is already under 15kb then just close the page. Now to upload to Gt Sport. Go to https://www.gran-turismo.com/gb/gtsport/user/decal-uploader and open the file browser to upload your logo. View media item 45082
6. We're done! Let's get painting! Go onto GT Sport and your logo should be in the My decals section of the livery editor. This may seem like a long process but once you get used to the process and Inkscape it will only take a few minutes. Now to finish that car and enter this fortnight's contest!!!View media item 45084

Some of us are already familiar with this process but as far as I know this is one of the best tutorials I’ve seen here. Thank you so much for that.

Would you mind copying this message to the tutorial thread here : User Decals - A Tutorial On How To Make .SVG (Request in separate thread)

Thanks !

Update mine for better proportion, early entry for make sure I didn't broke any rules or whoever. Added what Noisy said, you can use https://compressor.io for svg compression, for myself this one is more stronger than SVGOMG but you can use both for total compression

now time grind money for next update.

Wait a minute, how did you make that font?

I thought the whole thing has to be our own original work?

I mean, you have to make your own logo, from scratch you can’t even trace another image... so why are you then just allowed to use someone else’s font?

(I’m not disagreeing with you or @Strax btw)

With that, I mean make your own logo with the provided tools out there, i.e: Illustrator, inkscape, anything that lets you make your own logos. I just dont want people to just use stuff from the internet, because that might lead to using existing things like even logos for example. I even mentioned that you're able to use the shapes GT Sport has provide you, and the fonts.

I mean, I have to draw a line somewhere. And it's not like you guys have to make a thousand different sponsors, 1 could be enougb. You can even use 3 existing small sponsors.

You said that this example below wouldn't be allowed;

So it seems a bit odd that your wont allow people to modify images from the internet and incorporate them into fake logo's/brands, but allow any old font to be used?
Because then all you are doing is stopping people from making company mascots and icons and forcing cars to be just covered in some kind of text...

Please read what I posted above, I have to draw a line somewhere. That line is passed when you use pictures from the internet, which may as well result in using existing brands. We can discuss this all day long, and you may disagree, perfectly fine by me. But in the end I've decided to make these rules in a contest I got to choose.

Here we go again. The nitpicking and gatekeeping on finer details when it really isnt necessary. There were enough guidlines in the brief to be able to create something original using the tools available and our own initiative. When does it end? I swear if the theme was 'orange liveries only' there would be complaints about there not being enough information about what pantone swatches and cmyk/rgb values are allowed. Is it going to be like this from now on? Because if it is, I'm out.
