Universal healthcare saved my life when I collapsed with a heart attack four years ago. No complaints so far.
Two kidney stones in, I can say I'm rather pleased... They also saved my father from his heart attack.

Ambulance crews are my favourite people.

How the US has remained without an NHS equivalent, and so many ordinary people have been convinced it would be a bad idea, is absolutely baffling to me.

Glad you're alive.

It can currently take up to 6 months for the government to send you a card with your picture, name and address on it (in Minnesota at least).

I'm not against the idea of universal healthcare, I'm just against this government running it. They can't even get their 🤬 together long enough to make an efficient drivers license system, so you'll have to excuse me for not wanting them anywhere near something where time is everything.

^ This is my point and my fear.

While I have no doubt that there are many other countries that do a fantastic job and have great services available, I have every doubt that this country will ever be able to successfully implement any sort of NHS which will have a short and smooth roll-out, see no greater rise in costs versus that of what private options offer, as well as the quality of said services for equal/higher costs. Even if it were done at the state-level vs. nation wide implementation, there would be even further issues to tackle.

Like car insurance, I do believe you should only pay for the services you require, and that you have options and the ability to shop. IMO you should not have to rely on the government in order to seek out services which improve your quality of life, of which a well regulated economy should be able to supply on its own with sufficient demand.

Same thing here in Michigan where my local DMV branch still requires a 2-3 hour visit after implementing an appointment system designed to cut the wait time down. That's completely ignoring the gas tax debacle because nobody in government wants to admit that the money supposed to go the roads ends up in the general fund to be pissed away on things that are not roads. I don't even want to know how badly this state would mismanage the money that is supposed to go to healthcare.... :nervous:

We have universal healthcare in the US, at least to some degree. Just look at Medicare and Medicaid. It's awful, mismanaged, and ends up inflating the cost of healthcare across the board because the requirements hospitals need to do for it are asinine. If it were implemented better, it could work, but all it does now is let Boomers with names like Karen and Bob wonder why younger people struggle to pay their medical bills while they get everything by stealing money from me.

The best way to do the Secretary of State office? Show up at like 4:45 on a Friday before a holiday weekend. Everything gets approved and you've never seen government workers with such speed.

If they Bulk paid with a Federal Single Payer it would be more efficient but you have to cut each states options on the matter and do the entire thing Federally.

Even the prescription medicine prices in america are a massive problem, Free market is backfiring massively with the Big pharma companies all holding onto their patents and price inflate it like vultures, with no generic options on the same drugs like everywhere else in the world.

Man... the DNC has really pushed these opening statements to be full of nothing but "Orange man bad"
"And, we'll fix the ACA. Insurance for all, it won't be mandatory!" I have 4 prescriptions for my blood pressure and a visit, plus the prescription, is around $100. Cash is King! Here go the border talks...

Debates are just a political theatre that are worthless all the way around. I watched two minutes of highlights someone posted on Facebook and got the gist of it. Basically, it's a bunch of people that want to take my money, infringe on my rights, and just be politicians. I'm sure if the Republicans have a debate, it'll be exactly the same thing since you'll never convince me that either party are any different from one another.

I got to hand it to Sanders though, retorting with the line "I wrote the damn bill" was pretty priceless.

From what I can tell from polls and reports, Williamson was BY FAR the most Googled, most voted for, and most memorable of all the candidates tonight.

Partly due to the fact that r/The_Donald was pushing during the debate to vote for her..

Not gonna lie, it was pretty funny.

Any chance she could be a phenom? She has the dubious credentials of being a psychic advisor to Oprah Winfrey!

What was this, for us non-USians?
TL;DW: Tim Ryan was essentially saying how workers will be losing their employer healthcare that they like to medicare with inferior quality and raised costs. Sanders replied that they won't, and it will be better coverage/lower costs. Tim says "You don't know that," and Bernie followed with that quote.

What I don't get is Kamala's record was there to see for everyone, all the things Tulsi brought up I knew well before these debates and everyone can look this stuff up, but where are the journalists doing their jobs finding this stuff showing it to the people?

and one wonders why people have embraced New Media.

Wow, Tulsi destroys whoever this guy is on Afghanistan.

My opinion: Let the parts of Afghanistan that like the Taliban governance be left alone.. That is a local issue. Not our problem

The Taliban made the mistake of allowing Al Qaeda to set up camp there.

I really wish those people over there had a 2nd amendment and a gun store near by.

Misogynist post of the day:
I think Tulsi is pretty, shame she's a Dem.

You know people in the Middle East openly walk around with AK-47's and its many variants right? A buddy of mine who goes over to the Middle East for some reason says you can walk into pretty much any market and just buy an AK-47 for next to nothing. You can also buy ammunition by the kilo since it's just sitting in barrels and the merchant scoops it out and puts it on a scale. How true this is, I don't know, but he's been there so I'll go with it.

I've been to Iraq a couple times between 2003 and 2004 (you can guess why). They were allowed one automatic weapon per household. So when you get some intel that someone is stockpiling rpgs and several automatic weapons (you can guess why) they are not abiding by their own laws. I know Iraq =/= all of the middle east but those were the rules for Iraqis during those times. Not sure about now.

The Media didn't like when Tulsi Exposed Kamala Harris, so instead of talking about how Kamala Harris is a Fraud and liar they deflect and go on and on with this Assad Apologist smear, how crappy is American Media seriously.

Biden catching some flack for his recent misspeak.
“We have this notion that somehow if you're poor, you cannot do it, poor kids are just as bright and just as talented as white kids. Wealthy kids, black kids, Asian kids. I really mean it. But think how we think about it. We think now we're going to dumb it down. They can do anything anybody else can do give it a shot,” Biden said at the coalition event to applause.

I have heard/read reports about Kamala Harris's compromising record as Attorney General over the past few weeks. I'm sure the average American hasn't ... but that's not necessarily the fault of the MM, it's the fault of many people having a limited attention span & little interest in the details of the political circus. There are a couple of dozen Democratic candidates running for President after all.

As far as Harris is concerned, she was an aspiring politician trying to weave her way through the conflicting demands of a complicated job. I think ideological purity may be an appealing idea for left wing Democrats, but I don't see it as a realistic expectation. Personally, I'd take practically anyone over Trump.

So your okay with someone that refused to see evidence that could clear someone that is on Death row, due to a timing issue on some paper work.

She is a Sociopath.

Poster child of someone who says things on a level as if they are one of their own, only to get into a position of higher power. I'd take Williamson with some decent advisers and cabinet members over KH.

Prediction: It's looking like Biden, Bernie and Warren, with Warren getting the nomination, is what the DNC is working toward. Another neoliberal.

Warren is more of a Social Democrat I would say, but her record on Foreign Policy is questionable.

I think Bernie is the favourite though, Warren is struggling with Black Voters in polling and they are basically required to win the South in the Primary.
