Apparently the B8 is just a face lift of the B7 in word of things, so expect another drastic design change when the B8 gets facelifted.

You're missing my point.
What's your point? That Audi gave the car a facelift with improved technology that's going to have to be taken to the dealer and sorted out after M-Spec presses one too many buttons at the same time and freezes the interface?

I understand your point perfectly.

Your stance on electronics in automobiles perfectly proves why you need a Miata.

NB Miatas' spark was generated by a coil pack.

A 2001 Civic Si is equipped with a distributor. Touche.

I seriously think.

I seriously don't know how they managed to make that car more boring looking without reducing the ugliness one bit.

I don't think it's ugly enough.

MOAR UGLIEEEE!

Documentation/support? How about those comparo tests?

I dont think there was any official documentation as such just rumours from well placed sources. Audi had originally planned for the B7 design to be used on the B8 but executives decided that they needed a design refresh of the car alot earlier and used what was meant to be the B8 design. And thats why these sources say the new B8 doesnt look all that much different from the B7 because its a facelift design. So it would only make sense that when the B8 gets facelifted it will look quite a bit different from the B8.

I will post the comparo test as soon as its been posted on another forum. They have only posted the result so far, with the A4 beating the 3er by 5 points and apparently having a "more sporty drive".

Typical. Passing off unverifiable rumors from "well placed sources" as fact. This is the sort of thing that got your first account banned, Poverty and exactly why your opinion carries no weight with me.

There is no way the car can be a simple 'facelift', for the simple reason that critical dimensions like wheelbase have been changed, and the packaging of the engine and transmission has been completely changed. As well as the entire interior. The A4 rides on the MLP, which is described in this document as well as this wiki article as a 'platform'. Until I read something differently, from a credible source, I'm going to dismiss your claim, as I do most of what you write.

As for the comparo, don't trouble yourself (though that too is typical.. you also implied more than one in your first post ). I can read them myself when they come out. Then I can drive the new A4 and draw my own conclusions and opinions.

Yeah, about that Audi thing... We're still months on end from getting the car in the United States, and even then, I highly doubt it being much, if any better, than the 3-series, CTS, or G35. Why?

Well, its an Audi for one. I'll make the same generalization that I normally do; Nothing but a highly-glorified Volkswagen. Mind you, this coming from a Volkswagen fan. Sure, I know they're much more different than they were just a few years ago, but in all honesty, it doesn't make them any better. The AWD is a bonus, I'll give you that, but all of the competition offers it these days. The low-end engine is good to keep pricing down, but when everyone is running wonderful V6 and V8 options out the door, well, it just seems to come up short.

With the exception of the R8, the Audi lineup gets a resounding "Meh" from myself, I'm simply not that interested.

If an A4 is to seriously be considered, I'd skip the current one and give the new one a look. But in the end, I'd still rate the competition a bit better on substance alone...

Maybe I'm spoiled by the general goodness offered by BMW, maybe its my high expectations over at GM with Pontiac and Cadillac, I don't know. The Audi lineup just hasn't been all that appealing over the past few years. Too heavy, un-natural, and usually not the cheapest alternative anymore.

I don't hate them, but I certainly don't love them either. Its been hit-and-miss with them over the past year or two, and it really does depend from model to model. Like I said above, the R8 is brilliant, and I'd rate the A5/S5 quite high as well, but the rest is just so 'meh.' Its a case of been there, done that, and I really don't feel like they're advancing much in the market. More or less, its Audi who is constantly playing catch-up to BMW and Mercedes, although, you could certainly make an arguement that Cadillac and Infiniti have thrown Mercedes and Audi out of the loop as well.

I'll have to see the new A4 in person to see how I feel about it, but generally speaking, I don't care much for the current car. Same with the A6, A8 and Q7. They just aren't that interesting to me...

Completely missed the point, and these sources are the same guys who leak the forum info of what engines and hp future audi's, bmw etc will have long before the manufacturers themselves release statements.

And there is more than one comparo if you want to read about 4wd 3series, but so far there is only one of the new A4 where it beats the 3er.

Uhhh huh, yeah, sure.

Honestly, save the blind faith until the rubber meets the road. Before then, no matter how much you try to dress it up, it's still just hearsay and vaporware. Posting unending streams of this stuff and trying to pass it off as The Gospel is exactly what got you banned before.

Take the hint, now.

Yep. An Audi C5. A clean, low mileage, loaded Allroad 2.7T to be exact.

I'm not exactly sure how we went from a new CTS or G35 (hot) to an Allroad (cooking), but I guess it started when Mrs. M had a fit of practicality and insisted on a wagon body. She then followed this up with a frugal streak and insisted she wanted it paid off ASAP, which cut our budget dramatically. (we're looking to buy a new house this time next year, so cutting expenses to suit)

We quickly dropped most of the cars we were looking at. I wanted an '06 M35x or early '07 G35x, but dealers around here want stupid money for them. She axed both the A4 Avant and 328xi. Vehicles got tossed out about as soon as they were considered. So we finally started looking at BMW E39 wagons and Audi C5 Avants. I was hoping to nab one of those ultra-rare 2003 540i Sport 6-speed wagons. No such luck.

We did find a fair mileage '03 S6 Avant (350hp, woot), which we were interested in until I drove it and determined the whole front end was shot. Damn shame, because it went like a rocket and looked like the bee's knees too. It was blue on gray and I really wanted to take it home at first.

At the same dealer, they also had a black/black '04 Allroad with a paltry 19k on it. Lo and behold it was a 6-speed manual to boot. That deal went sour because the salescritter wanted stupid money for it. And the shifter/clutch felt not a bit similar to a Jetta, but exactly like it.

Switching dealers....

So now we have a deal on another '04 Allroad with the uncommon Light Ecru interior. Auto. Nice car. Interior is so clean I don't think anyone has even sat in the back seats. Fair price. CPO. But the tires are in rough shape and the car doesn't track straight at highway speeds, so they agreed to have both things addressed by Saturday. I've since learned the AR is a temperamental, finicky car with an appetite for tires. Sounds perfect for me.

So if all goes well, we close the deal Saturday, take delivery in the afternoon and I've bought my first Audi. 👍

Oh, and it's Burgundy. :odd: I guess we got the only Burgundy Allroad ever shipped to the US.

Se-weeeet.... Sounds like a bad-ass car!

Just don't let Douglas convince you that its an outright handling machine. You've had enough BMW Koolaide to know the difference...

Doug's right, VW/Audi resisted the temptation to create that nasty not-quite-red-nor-pink-nor-burgundy..."but it's really feminine"-color that nearly every other automaker created around 2002-2006. (Except on the Q7.)

Get the Michelins; they make a tire that actually says "allroad" on them! I think there's a Continental for that car, too. Pirellis are nice on the A4s, not so bad on the RS4s (considering the driver might kill those brakes before the tires), but suck-tastic on every other Audi.

Considering the surcharge you pay for the Pirelli name compared to the amount of available tires for most cars nowadays, that's just wrong.

Thanks guys.

I thought the coincidence in nomenclature was so amusing, I had to put it in the thread title ;) I'd buy a C6 or C2 Vette. But the C5 doesn't do much for me. Respect? Yes. Desire? No.

Doug; it might be because your car is clean and the lighting is different, but the "Burgundy Red" on our Allroad looks quite a bit different than yours. Ours has a distinct brownish tint to it, rather a purplish one. I wonder if they changed it.

If they didn't change it, they certainly should've. Can't wait to see pics! :D
