Sounds like a nice deal on a nice car, ///M! Congratulations.

So we went over the Audi dealer on Saturday. The car tracks straight, the wobble from the tires is gone and their detail guy has done a great job taking 3 years of random scratches off the car. Only problem is a relay in the hazard light switch had checked out; the hazards work fine, but the turn signals didn't work.

And the dealership didn't have a tech working in either of their locations that day. D'oh.

But they did deliver it to my door this afternoon.

So without further ado, feast your eyes on quite possibly one of the rarer North American Audi color combos. Burgundy Red over Light Ecru Cricket Leather on a C5 allroad quattro. (I know you've always been just dying to see what one looks like ;))

The allroad quattro (note all lower case spelling) is an A6 Avant with an automatic/manual override air suspension, pumped up wheel arches, scratch-resistant paint on the front/rear bumpers, roof + arches and two tone leather interior.

The lowest suspension setting (pictured) offers 5.6 inches of ground clearance and does a fair job of imitating a typical Audi sport suspension set up. On the limit balance defaults to --you guessed it-- understeer. Still, there's enough mechanical grip and body control for you to make rapid progress on back roads.

At the tallest suspension setting, the AR sports 8.2 inches of ground clearance. Chrome dress up bits give the car a nice upmarket look...

...As does the lovely interior. Fit and finish are irreproachable, with only one or two exceptions. Pretty steering wheel nice to hold; steering is accurate, but slightly syrupy in action.

Leather seats are very comfortable, but lack lower thigh support and side bolstering. Signal and wiper stalks the only refugees from Volkswagen parts bin that I've noticed.

250 hp 2.7 liter biturbo; powerhouse potential, provided your turbos don't die. K04 upgrade is already planned in two years. 350+ hp beast to come.

Cheese and rice – screw the car, I want your driveway! (Well, and the house too.)

But seriously, ’grats on the new addition to the family. Luverly car.

Ive driven one exactly like that but in black. Its actually quite capable and handling is pretty decent at the lowest susp setting. Other than the overly light, low feedback steering, its a great car.

^ Yeah, the steering is very 'old Audi'. Overboosted and disconnected. "Syrupy" is how I describe it. But it suits the overall character of the car; comfortable, refined, solid and very conservative. I can't wait till the stock Pirellis wear out so we can get some real tires on this car. I wonder if anyone makes solid urethane bushings for this car :D

Thanks again for the compliments, all. Mrs. M is pretty pleased with her new ride.

EDIT: Oh... and it looks like we're in good company.

MacGyver drives an allroad!!

I bet he's opening that door with a toothpick and a bit of twine.
