This came up in the GT forum the other day, and I'm still at a loss:
These are 2 things that I didn't think could ever be grouped together, but they apparently were at one point. Anyway, there's 3 other early 90s dtm cars in GT already, I don't see why not to add another.

So yeah, this is probably the Foxbody Mustang at its most awesome peak.

Because what the 🤬. I can't even think of a suitably outlandish analogy to compare it to.

I will say that it shocked me at first too and I'm still in disbelief, but at the same time; I think it's pretty awesome.

Though on the other hand, it depends on what you measure success as. Racing success, sure, they kinda sucked; but in terms of attention, they probably got the same level of love from fans because of how weird they were among the RS500s and 190s that the JLOC JGTC cars always did.

That's true, even though they didn't do well, I still love the fact Ford managed to participate the pony car in one hell of a motorsport. It makes me love the Mustang even more.

The car has been in everything from your grocery getting to Trans Am to this kind of stuff. There's not really much I can think of that hasn't had the Mustang named attached to it at some point. It's road racing history is probably right up there as one of the strongest ever put out from the US.

They raced in the ATCC and other touring car series during the 80s and early 90s as well. Just not the DTM versions though.

Didn't realise they also raced the Metro in the BTCC as a Group a car. I assume it raced in the same class as the N/A Escorts and maybe the Astras. Just looks ace with the same computervision livery as the factory 6R4s.

Fixed. That psuedo-spec series nonsense really didn't start until the changeover.
When they were changing over to the GT500/GT300 class system, pretty much all of GT1 spec cars had to become pseudo-spec prototypes in order to compete.

One was destroyed the other broken for spares and it was but the drive train loses were too high.
This one doesn't like this gearbox

Mega-necro-post-dig-reply: Nissans. Gearboxes. Go figure. SR20s are practically omnivorous. They'll eat anything.

Self-pimping. Yes, it's a cruddy race car, still slow, still bouncy, but much mirth. :D

Hell no, they sucked and were supported horribly financial wise, they were fast and could have been faster but just like many things ford related in the 90s they ended in a boom.

It was a totally privateer entry, Ford had nothing to do with it. So you can't really blame Ford for The DTM Mustang's lack of results.

I'm not blaming ford for anything, nor did I ever say anything about ford backing them. I just said like any things ford related in the 90s they also weren't good. Ford had a pretty bad reputation with engines and other parts all through out the 90s especially early to mid and anyone following them during that time period could list off their many manufacturing issues along with race related, whether backed by Ford factory or not.

Not familiar with the story on this.. was only looking for awful liveries on google.
Do you reckon they got enough banners across the screen? I'm sure there's room for one more.
Well picked sponsor

That's another one from LeMons. Looks like one of the Eagles Canyon races. If it's the one I think it is, the team I race with was in that race, in our then-normally-aspirated four-banger '88 Mustang.

If I remember right that car had the original 2.8 L Cologne V6 engine. And wow was it slow---our slightly-cheaty four-cylinder (~100 HP at the wheels) could go by them with ease. (If they were ever to want to make that car reasonably quick, they should be able to drop in the 4.0L OHC version of the same engine...)

Heck, speaking of I can't believe they raced it, I can't believe we raced it. :P 88 HP at the crank in stock form. I have surprisingly few shots of the engine bay, attached is one from fairly early in the build. It was a complete dog with the normally-aspirated engine, but it's actually reasonably quick with the turbo.

Supersaloons are cool in every form, and then once in a while you get the mad job like that Mini. Great stuff 👍
