the "just plain ugly" car thread

The more I see the Cybertruck the worst it looks. Does Elon Musk put some kind spell on that vehicle to make folks want to buy it? I just don't get the appeal of that thing 🤢🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮

I've seen the new Crown CUV Sedan thing to know I don't like how it looks.

Also, the new BMW M5. I was fine with every gen of the M5 (even the e60's styling) until this one mucked it up.

It looks like what an AI would render if you asked it to mash-up aftermarket overlanding/offroad parts for a Gladiator and a Tacoma.

Have KIA actually ever produced a good looking car? They often, especially in this electric era, create different looking cars, but i struggle to remember them making anything desirable. The Stinger is a maybe. I guess.

They've made inoffensive cars like the Cee'd, Rio and Cerato but I can't think of a true stunner in their history. The Opirus is horrible in photographs but surprisingly nice in the flesh. (Yes, really!)

Probably a good thing the new Kia Tasman isn't coming to North America.

I'm calling conspiracy by the USA on that one. ;)

And it looks like Kia Australia is aware of what might be the Tasman’s most glaring shortcoming, as it has stated there will be plans and options to disguise those obvious fender flares.
Even in local media imagery, Kia Australia has been careful to select a black-coloured model to better hide the plastic mouldings, versus international pictures that show the contrast between the body colour and wheel arches.

I'm probably going to get shot for saying this but I like it. You won't be mistaking it for anything else and in such a competitive market segment, that's important. I'm sick of seeing Rangers, Hiluxes and Tritons all the time. They've garnered a certain image here in Australia and let me just say that it's not the most favourable. Particularly Ford Ranger Raptors, bought by men who are one-dimensional and have no intent of ever taking them off road. Unless you consider driving down a gravel road on the odd occasion off roading. Whenever I see one, I think "oh look, another moron" who just HAD to get the Raptor to show off in front of his mates. The dick measuring means soo much to these dim-witted fools and they're absolutely insufferable for it. I don't think the Tasman will perpetuate this attitude as it goes about it's business in it's own way, distinct from the rest.

I just saw a Tesla Cyber truck the other day, color was bronze like. Double take on the thing because it’s absolutely the goofiest car/truck I’ve ever seen, ever. And I like Tesla cars, but it was just on another level of something I couldn’t understand.

Kia and maybe Hyundai jjust look like a Mercedes rip off.

Based on the current state of truck/SUV styling, it's hard to say it's any uglier than the rest. However, it has something the rest do not: massive eyebrows.

Saab Sonett - AND its not beautiful just outside. Instead of some lovely Saab turbo engine it runs on Ford OHV V4... Now we know why Volvo stayed away from curved edges.

It's not a looker with the pop-ups up or with the federal bumpers, but other than being a little too narrow, i'd say its far from ugly. Matter of opinion, of course.

The Ford V4 was also used in all the other SAABs at the time too, the bigger engined models at least. Like Lotus, i don't think SAAB ever designed and built their own engine. Certainly not until the 90's (and perhaps not even beyond then, without checking). They used the Ford V4 then a Triumph engine when that could no longer meet emission regs. Even the early turbos used a version of that Triumph 'slanted four'.

The only part of the Sonett III that I'd call truly ugly is the rear. Other than that I think it's charming. The Sonett II was maybe a little better, but the nose on those was so much worse.
