The Le Mans General Discussion Thread

And I wouldn't mind seeing the viewing figures when they were streamed live on daily motion, I don't remember seeing it get above a couple of thousand.

I wish they'd have kept that, I found it pretty interesting... I can't remember what they were last year. I'd expect it to be a lot higher than a couple thousand though!

Just done the maths it's just under 3 euros per race if you buy the full season package. I'm not trying to cause an argument I just fail to see how thats so terrible...

That would be 3 euro per race more than last year... And for no good reason.

But hey, it's not a lot of money right. Lets do this for everything. Nothing shall be free, and it'll be okay, because it's only small amounts of money. And hey, it's not like anyone doesn't have a lot of money to throw around.

I seem to remember them being 30-40.000. But I certainly could be wrong.

Of course we all like free stuff. But come on. We're not being charged 10, 20 euro per race. Look at things with some perspective.

That would be 3 euro well spent in my opinion.

Well it isn't a lot of money. I spent more than that on 1 beer the other night... But now you're definitely over reacting.

I think some of you need to realise that some people simply don't have the money. And not being able to follow one's passion because something that used to be free suddenly gets a paywall, is beyond frustrating.

And it's also the principal in it. This is one stream that now costs money. If people support it, it could potentially result in every stream that was once free, costing money. People are so darn quick to part ways with their money that they forget to think about whether it should actually be free, and why something that used to be free suddenly costs money.

Edit: Thought I'd add some numbers. Over the past 2 years, the FIA WEC homepage has had more than 2 million viewers on their live streams. I wonder how much that will drop as a result of this.

I can't speak for other countries, but here in the states motorsports gets virtually no coverage at all. We get practically non of all the great sports car racing you have in Europe. I have no problems with paying for a seasons pass as long as the price is reasonable and this sounds fair to me. Personally, I would prefer most motorsports go this route. I could cut my cable bill by over $100 a month and support the racing that I love instead of having to pay for 200+ plus channels of garbage to get what I want which is only a handful of channels.

I'll buy the €10 LM stream, so that I won't have to sit through whatever crap FOX Sports airs, but I probably won't mess with the rest of the season. I like the WEC, but not enough to drop another €20 on.

And some people need to learn that everything isn't free, someone pays for it.

You may need to realize how much it costs to broadcast a race. Just on TV will run in the millions of dollars between equipment, utility, and salary. Add live streaming and that is more equipment and people. And these costs continue to grow year after year. That isn't helped as more people go online only without paying for cable or satellite.

It was free to get early support while viewership numbers were lower. It's like a new product launching for free or extremely cheap. You try it out. Then you know if you think it is worth the money.

Ultimately, it's not a charity. Business does not exist by giving stuff away. If they can't make money they will cease to broadcast anything.

Marketing managers and accountants have already done the math, most likely based on surveys and research, how many viewers they will lose at each price point and found a level that they think will not lose enough to cause a loss in profit. If they are wrong then the pricing scale will be adjusted in the future.

But if everyone refuses to watch online they will cancel it due to lack of interest.

I can't imagine a 16 year old in a P2, at Le Mans, ending so well.

Anyway, woooo! Toyota!
