The Le Mans General Discussion Thread

Bummer, just realized that I'm only going to be back from holidays late in the evening on June 13... :(
Although I'm looking forward to my trip, I'm also looking forward each year to follow the 24hrs from start to finish.

I guess I'm going to record it and view the first 1 or 2 hours, then ffwd through to see I don't miss any big moments and then follow the live broadcast.

FRIC suspension, upgraded 4L V6, 4mj class, complete with Veyron-esque headlight cluster ;)

I thought those headlight clusters were more akin to those on the new Volvo XC90 for a second. Particularly the T-shaped LED running lights.

Well, it won't be easy to confuse any of those cars with the other.

I still like the Gulf livery the most. The red/yellow always makes me think of McDonald's and the blue/yellow isn't bad, but it just isn't as good as the Gulf one.

I'm thinking about going to Le Mans this year (thinking, not too serious now...) but I'm not sure how long I may want to stay, where I want to be for the start, and more importantly, who may want to go with me (because bum diddly squat of my friends enjoy motor racing, let alone they won't be able to make it over there...

Flying isn't a problem.. It's getting from Paris to the track which is the problem and anywhere in between...

Do it! I'm going from Thursday to Sunday this year.

Every year I try and get to the Dunlop bridge, standing on the outside of the circuit, the view is brilliant! There's usually a large group of GTPers who go...

Talking of which, who's going this year? Would be cool to meet up for a beer or 10

Me! But I don't drink

I always wonder why Audi haven't built an R8 GTE. Maybe they didn't want to cause any confusion with the Le Mans-winning LMP.

Yeah, that's one spot I definitely want to go to.

I'd also like to go to the end of Tetre Rouge where the trees are and take a shot of that, as I have a massive poster in my room from 2000 when they went 1-2-3.

If you're new you have to Google the Le Mans sock story.

That is hysterical

I learned some of that the hard way when I was younger on day trips to France. Had managed to forget though, so thanks for the reminder. Mentally I'm prepared... nothing is worse than the station in rural Italy that also featured squat toilets, that appeared to be frequented by cattle as well as people.

I'll be there. Camping at Beausejour, inside of the Porsche Curves. First time there so no idea where I'll be during the race.
Me and my friend are camping at the same place, it's his first time but I've been once before.

If you see my 130i you'll know it's me :P

There's a quartet of us going this year, camping in Beausejour (@MatskiMonk). @homeforsummer and @Famine might be going but if they do they'll be 'at work', so they'll probably end up in hotels, the pansies.

No beer for me either, ta.

@Swagger897 - you could take the train from Paris to Le Mans. SNCF are the train company that operate the long distance French rail network. You can board at Charles de Gaulle airport and get off in Le Mans town centre, then take the tram to the circuit. Looking at train tickets it could cost anywhere from $25 upwards, depending on when you book. The tram is only a few euros/dollars. The journey's about 2 hours.

Nice, I got a pic of your E30, so the 1-er would make a pair. If you see a dunkelblau 320d tourer with jump leads hanging out of the bonnet, you'll know it's me!

I remember there being a conspiracy theory that Audi pressured the ACO into creating diesel-friendly regulations back when they launched their first diesel LMP, I wonder if we're returning to that. :indiff:

If it weren't for the fact Toyota's keeping self-deconstructing internally or crashing they'd probably have won it maybe twice since they've come back. Okay so it's a bit of an exaggeration but still. Besides out of the four manufactures they're the only diesel powered car now.

It's all about dat hyrbid system doe. :P

One guy crashed the Toyota, two years in a row. And he doesn't drive for them anymore. Last year the #7 car failed bcause a faulty FIA sensor, not Toyota's. So its bad luck imo. Everyone runs into it at Le Mans, unfortunately for Toyota its been extremely cruel.
