The Le Mans General Discussion Thread

I want to like the Nissan but I just can't see it being successful against the tried and true arrangements that Porsche, Audi, and Toyota are using.

But I will say Kudos when I'm proven wrong.

How is a front engine system with basically awd not proven?

Going back about 20 years of modern Le Mans history, a mid engined car took the spoils. Granted, the Panoz was the first prototype to try a mid front engine layout in the LMP era but they had to go up against the hammer that was Audi. Maybe Nissan can make a better gamble, but we'll see.

@RACECAR

Oh it worked in the ALMS, and that video is bringing back some fond childhood memories. :embarrassed:

But Panoz never managed to translate that to the 24, but many cars can say the same *cough
Toyotacough*.

However Nissan is definitely a bigger animal than Panoz can ever dream to be, so the GT-R has that to it's advantage.

That Panoz though looked a Hell of a lot better than the Nissan does. Must be the Murica colors.

The point is a car tried it and didn't do so bad with an overall 7th in the second outing. I don't see why Nissan with more money thrown in then what Don had with his cars during an equally if not more so competitive era of Sports Car Racing. And the Hammer back then wasn't Audi, but Porsche.

Yes we will see, but I wouldn't be giving them much this year since even they seem to have all their eggs in the basket for 2016

I think if Nissan are even close to competitive this year then the others will be worried, considering how new and under developed the Nissan Layout is in the LMP catagory its ability to improve would be significantly higher then those that are finding deminishing returns from the MR layout.

Just watched the 2009 race (Speed half assed coverage) and man, it was really somethng else that Peugeot victory. Even knowing the result, I felt happy for them. Specially, David Brabham.

Aston Martin Racing are putting a memo around the teams racing at the festival this year with an offer.

I really hope the teams take it up as it will make the race 100x more impressive.

Theres a post from Hindy on midweek motorsport's facebook group page that Toyota did a 1:36 at Paul Ricard in testing (compared to Porsche's 1:37.2). I guess basically they weren't even trying too hard at the Prologue, just like last year. Looks like were going to be seeing laps under 3:20 at Le Mans consistently, not just in qualifying.

Quite interesting. The last time that such pace was achieved was in 2010, if I not mistaken.

I think we have ourselves a fantastic championship this year. 👍 Great 3 way (possibly 4 way with Nissan coming at Le Mans) in LMP1, LMP2 looks like a good scrap, and the GT guys are exciting as always. This and Blancpain Sprint/Endurance will be great! :D

FIA/ACO, congrats on the WEC yet again. 👍 👍 👍 Great job guys.

And meanwhile the highlight of the F1 race was the press conference

Well hopefully Nissan have better luck, either way their car is nuts. :odd:

Personally I'm a big GT fan, so I'm partial to the GTE-Pro/Am classes. :3 The Aston's this year with their subtle updates look gorgeous, even better than before (which is hard ro believe they can look any more beautiful lol). Not to snub the Labre Corvette though, that's a great car as well. 👍

How unfortunate. My sympathize are for Klien, Saga, Amberg and the rest of the team that was conned out of racing at LM this year.

It's a shame to see a potentially competitive LMP2 being replaced by another mobile chicane GTE-Am.

The Viper is a good thing,

But do we know why the Sard car had to pull out?
