The Le Mans General Discussion Thread

So I finally got a look at the Oreca 05 in proper race livery and at first I thought "It looks good but I feel like I've seen it before for some reason" and after googling pictures, I'm just gonna say it looks very familiar:

While not exact in some details, they look...related

They have been clever hear because the width limit on LMP2 class is 2000mm but the car width is 1900mm so they have widened the dive plains and some of the boy work for extra down foce.

Because Oreca made both. :P

Oreca 05. Lol they missed out the 04!
Probably the secret designation of the Rebellion...or 04 will be for the LMP3.

Speaking of which, I just watched today a clip about Ginetta (Drive) and they say they're excited about going to Le Mans with their LMP3 car...I thought LMP3 wasn't planned on going to Le Mans?

Here's the clip, he mentions their Le Mans plans at 3:10 -

They will be at the test day though. I guess its for the drivers mostly!

I dont think thats true. The wec is still young, but its getting more and more popular. Le Mans needs races that lead up to it. Plus it gives us more opportunities to see these lmp1's etc. The TS020 only raced LM and Fuji. What a shame.

It's True for now, but that is not to say the rest of the Series can't grow.

Personally I don't think the races in the rest of the season are long enough, they need another 24h and a few 12hr,

Another 24 hour race in the series might take away from Le Mans but I do agree about adding 12 hour races, Sebring most notably needs to make its return.

Sebring would be an Obvious good choice, the only way I could think of better would be if they managed to get the rights to the Daytona 24hour, but I don't see that happening soon or ever.

A Second Headliner race would do wonders for the rest of the series.

Major issue is IMSA...the structure of the Tudor series doesn't fit at all with the WEC anymore...would be nice if they could buy the rights to Daytona and Sebring... :mischievous: :P . (yes I know that's impossible and not happening...but it's a pleasant thought. :P )

Le Mans is Le Mans and always will be Le Mans, there is no other event in the world like it, or an event that could come close to emulating it or take away from it, regardless of circuit, though, another 24h would have to be somewhere other then Europe, even a really cool street track,

Well it is.
Well its gunna change in years as the WEC grows!

Edit: the WEC made me interested in LeMans and LMP racing and it wasn't because it was racing hundreds of miles away but 20 minutes down the road! I can't imagine that I am the only one who has been converted by the WEC, which is why the WEC is more important then LeMans!

People are much more interested in a series that comes to them not waiting hundreds of miles away in France!

I don't think it ever will happen (apart from maybe Sebring) but I'd kill to see a WEC race at Daytona, Sebring or Watkins Glen, maybe even doing Petit Le Mans again at Road Atlanta.

Don't forget road america.

Road America has never really been a historic circuit for global sports car racing (Road Atlanta isn't historic but PLM became a big event) so it's not one in fussed about. It was used in ALMS but Sebring, Daytona and the Glen go back to the 60's (maybe even earlier).

I'm over 100KM from a former F1 circuit, which held 1 ALMS race in 1999, I've never seen a modern Prototype since then, yet I prefer the WEC over F1 even though we don't get any of it here in Australia, even on telly,

Fair enuf but people going to a WEC race with ther family are far more likely to whatch more races on TV and mabey even travel to the races then some one who hasn't been to a race as the publicity for le mans and WEC is quite low!

This means that the only time the public here in the UK hear anything about the WEC is when the WEC are here in the UK! People are far more interested in F1 the entire season!
