The Le Mans General Discussion Thread

Well its gunna change in years as the WEC grows!
It won't, at least in a short time. Le Mans is the highlight of the season for almost everyone in sportscar racing, it has almost 100 years of history behind it, it's by far the largest single motorsport event in Europe and the reason why LMP is a thing. It's a legend, while the WEC is just a sportscar series for the rest of the season, as was the WSC, which clearly wasn't irreplaceable. That doesn't mean that WEC isn't entertaining to watch, but none of the manufacturers in LMP1 would be there without the 24 Hours of Le Mans.

Edit: the WEC made me interested in LeMans and LMP racing and it wasn't because it was racing hundreds of miles away but 20 minutes down the road! I can't imagine that I am the only one who has been converted by the WEC, which is why the WEC is more important then LeMans!
For you, and possibly some others near big international race tracks which are in the WEC calendar.

People are much more interested in a series that comes to them not waiting hundreds of miles away in France!
By that logic, all I should care about is ice hockey, and I couldn't give a 🤬 about ice hockey.

I'm over 100KM from a former F1 circuit, which held 1 ALMS race in 1999, I've never seen a modern Prototype since then, yet I prefer the WEC over F1 even though we don't get any of it here in Australia, even on telly,
Yeah we get it on TV it's live on Foxtel all rounds of WEC.

Probably the secret designation of the Rebellion...or 04 will be for the LMP3.

Speaking of which, I just watched today a clip about Ginetta (Drive) and they say they're excited about going to Le Mans with their LMP3 car...I thought LMP3 wasn't planned on going to Le Mans?

Here's the clip, he mentions their Le Mans plans at 3:10 -

I was always a fan of Ginetta, but that video made me a real fanboy.
What a fantastic philosophy.

Well bruised shin bones all round the Nissan camp after Le Mans, that dash looks like a serious design flaw,
you'll probably find that the bottom and sides of the seat meet the button box thing so his leg never actually touches it.. though it does look like he'd have a job reaching those buttons while strapped in...

I'd be more worried about the steering wheel that's bouncing around than the lack of padding for the legs.
It looks like if he turned it any harder it would snap!

I got a chance to sit in the demo car and the wheel is right in you face efectivly.

So um, did anyone tell these guys to adopt the f1 method for lack of padding? Make the driver buy knee pads so your legs don't bounce together or against the steering rack/column.

That is rather unsafe though. Just in that onboard you can see his legs moving around too much, and possibly hitting the dashboard a few times, but still, that steering wheel moving around that much in his hands is sketchy.

What is rather unsafe? A knee pad to prevent clashing? I mean the tunneling of the monocoque to the foot well looks like that of an F1 car like most P1 cars and they sit about as low too so I don't see what's unsafe. The steering wheel I don't have a clue on, though the column itself doesn't seem to have the same give.

Toyota must be wondering if they fell behind the development curve during the off season.

Audi we all know goes back to the drawing board and tinker with everything like the mad scientist they are. Porsche seems to be the real deal for the moment though

That's how Porsche always is and why people should fear them when they enter something, they take a year to test the waters and attempt an upset here and there, and then the following year you get floored by them out of nowhere. There is a reason why these guys win at this type of Racing every time they return. Money, Engineers and efficiency to a degree that may even put Audi to rest (which will cause the foil hats to rise).

I think the 600bhp 4 zylinder turbo that will be used in the DTM from 2017 would fit better in the concept. It's small, light and powerful. Plus, they could test their DTM engine already next year
It was just a dream of mine...lol. The DTM engine is nice too. :P

Nothing wrong with dreaming. I dream of V12's in the formula 1 :D

Have you ever seen WEC live? The Astons and Ferraris sound so beautiful
Sadly no, only watched it from the TV. :( But oh my God yes the Aston Martin V8 is just PERFECT. And the Ferrari sounds like a banshee. Then there's the Porsche, which is classic Porsche. 👍
