The Le Mans General Discussion Thread

Design flaw in the rain? For the last hour of this afternoon's session, Jann was lapping among the top three/four fastest cars on a pretty regular basis...
Contrary to what Nissan's PR tweets said he did 3 laps of 3.56.5, 58.1 and 57.7 and was +12 sec to the 1-2-17-18 cars. The 19 pitted and the 3 Audi's were doing pit stops for the last 15 minutes.

So by Nissan PR standards he was a top 5 car.

Toyota led their first Le Mans (Their first race), and won their 3rd race in the WEC. They were competitive with Audi from the start (Winning 3 of 6 races entered), even though they were forced to join the series a year earlier than planned due to Peugeot's withdrawal.

So no, your point really doesn't stand.
Just goes to show how much I care about this type of racing.

Where did i state it was illegal?? I wasn't aware it had passed its crash test, been corrected and the thread has moved onto todays events,

And now a third persona, nice, 👍
You changed yoyr stance, I know. But this is what you said before, even after you were told the car was good...
Just going to make one thing clear first, first and foremost, I am a motorsport fan, of all varieties, I personally classify Le Mans the number one race in the world,

The fact is there are 3 cars on the entry list that as far as I know are still not compliant with the safety regulations, yet they are still guaranteed slots on the grid, this is where the FIA/ ACO should have stepped in and said, "you have to this date to prove your safety and technology or we will give on slot of yours away, then you will have to this date before we give the other slot away," there may or may not be more teams on the reserve list like Riley Tech Viper that can and will compete and do everything within their power to ensure their car sees the finish,

And even if the LMGTR is functioning properly come race day and is somehow competitive, will they let it race or will they bring it in every few hours for a once over and usb swap? That isn't motor racing, and to add I would be just as pessimistic if Ford, Chevrolet, BMW, VW or any other manufacture was this unprepared this close to the event,

As for @R1600Turbo and his employment status, I wasn't aware of it, that's his personal business and none of mine,
You were claiming they could gain knowledge on overheating if they raced Silverstone. But you also said they were illegal (your words were "not compliant with safety regulations"). I'm pointing out how could they gain knowledge at a race they're not able to even race? Just stating the obvious. The WEC arent going to let them run a non-compliant car. And as an example, they even parked them during the test day because of their mirror position.

Btw, save the personal jabs. I don't have any psn or real life friends named dave.

I do remember them saying something like that. But they didn't say that on Friday .

Obviously the supporters of Nissan and this concept have the loudest voices in this forum so I'll back out after this post. All I'm saying is that this project has not exactly had an encouraging start ............
Nether did audis back in 1999

@TDZdave just do what I do and add him to your block list it's what I've did with people who think they know stuff but clearly don't and makes the thread miles better ;)

Also the Nissan was illegal hence why they got pulled and told to change the mirrors.

Oy...can we please find something else to discuss? I'm getting tired about talking about Nissan. :banghead: They're only doing a "in anger" 24 hour test at Le Mans this year. Putting the concept of their design to the side...can't we just rejoice in the fact that more manufacturers are joining LMP1? And in 2 years BMW is rumored to be joining the fight? THAT WEC HAS BECOME THE GREATEST CHAMPIONSHIP IN THE WORLD?!

Why can't we talk about GTE? #AMRnut

Because some people are simply impatient. Sometimes it take a while to see any sort of success in racing. Toyota has been doing this for how long? 5 years? And it took them 2-3 seasons just to be competitive. Nissan hasn't even competed in a single event yet and already people are expecting them to win right out of the box. A little lop sided, no?

Toyota did not start 20s off the pace.

What track changes?
A lot of the grass has been replaced with asphalt, especially around the end of the lap at the Porsche Curves, the track limits are the same but they'll all be running with 2 wheels off the road on the corners they couldn't last year.

Done, and you are right, I had his old account blocked, but that got banned,

@catamount39 yes lets talk GTE, they went out, did some laps, Viper is back, no Ferrari crashed, been a constructive day for this class,

You do realize the point of this year for Nissan is to get to grips with it right? That they realize they're gonna be garbage slow right? Because honestly...THEY SAID THAT BACK WHEN THEY ANNOUNCED THIS PROGRAM.

Announcing to the world you expect to be garbage slow is not an excuse to be garbage slow.

Ferrari's are nice, but Aston's are better and we get the art car this year so...neh! :P :sly:  Here's to hoping for an AMR GTE sweep! :D

Glad to have a Viper back at Le Mans. Plus adds more engine parity in GTE. The battle in GTE-Am is gonna be intense!

Sure if the Corvettes didn't come to the event.
Rooting for Corvette on the side. :P Awkward being an AMR and Vette' fan. I hope the proper numbers give the Vette's luck this year. 👍

As long as AMR win one of the classes I'm happy. A Corvette can win whichever class AMR doesn't win.

Proper numbers? The car was new last year and it still came second with issues, after leading many times, so the slight re-visioned version already showing even better speed out of the box should be difficult to beat. But it's a 24 hour event so you can't rely on numbers even if you've won as many times as them.

Sorry I'm just being nostalgic about FINALLY having the #63 and #64 again. :P I'm not knocking Corvette, heck, considering the new-ness of the car they did brilliant.

I've looked but I've not found the full drivers list for the vette, who's in it?

Every Ferrari is an art car in my eyes

I have to admit the Corvette is one of the coolest pieces of plastic in the world :sly:

How many years have we done this back in forth in lieu to Le Mans now?

The same drivers it was last year, go to their website. Wait I think Briscoe hasn't driven for them at Le Mans though...

EDIT: Yeah it was Westbrook last year, so the only change in drivers is Briscoe instead

Ah cool, Briscoe is in? I may have a favourite. Wait! Stanaway is in an Aston,

I'm sure we'll be doing it for many years into the future too, you don't get such a passionate following of marque's in any other class. I guess we all have our favourite supercars which makes it more special. Nobody has mentioned the GTE Porsche's yet which is understandable since they stay silent for the whole week then win by efficiency and stealth.

The Porsche's in the GT class are annoying that's why :sly:, but not as nearly as the unmissed BMWs.

Nah but in all seriousness it is shaping up to be another good battle, and it is good to be passionate, I don't like Vette due to the road cars (though I like them), I like Corvette Racing because of the engineering and great work they do with a car that sees no other aspect of WEC competition other than this one event and they continually prove themselves over time.

Though I will say the Ferrari are pretty and have been ever since the 550 won Le Mans.

BMW needs to come back to GTE, then with Ford joining next year we would have a 6 way fight!

Who says Ford is going to GTE? Many still think they're a potential for the top class, so Ford can relive the glory. We'll see.

I'd be surprised if Ford announced a LMP1 program but you're right, we'll have to wait and see.

Toyota did not start 20s off the pace.

Toyota also didn't run the same configuration nor had the issue with a structure that they to go back and redesign ONTOP of trying get the Hybrid unit to work. Not even close to being comparable.
