I detailed an R-series today. I had NO IDEA it sits so low. o_O It looks alright, but it's still huge and a sell out for Merc. However, would it be too German of me to ask for an AMG model with a supercharged V8? :sly:

No, and it will have the 6.3 liter I hear.

Actually, I think it only gets the 6.2, however it's still called the "R63" But don't let that put you off, when the limiter's removed it can do 180MPH!

BTW, does anyone else here think that it's a bit unfair when people say that German cars only do 155MPH, even though it's a limiter?

For those interested and with nothing better to do on a Friday night (that would be me) there is a Mercedes test drive on the Speed channel right now. (9pm central time) They are testing the AMGs.

There has got to be at least 4 C-Classes in my neighbourhood, it's the most popular car in my area, there are more C-Classes than Mondeo's FGS!

I got no Mercedes connections around my neighborhood. Although if I go to Downtown, thats a whole new story!!!! Last time i went there I spotted a CLK, with body kits, and was it ever riding low!!!! The wing on it looked crazy also and did it ever have a sound system!

The new GL450. I've seen quite a few of these recently.

I really like the look of the GL. I wasn't fussed about the ML's styling. But I don't know why, but I find this really nice.

Do you live in Vancouver?

Today i drove down to my local M-B dealer and this is what i found...

If you cant tell, its a CLK-DTM AMG. One of only two in my country.:D :D

Raced about in a CLK 55 AMG convertible last night. Very very quick car, but what amazed me the most aboutit was how it stuck to the road, raced over speed bumps as if they didnt exist and how the car was constantly stable with no body roll. Compared to my friends E46 M3 the car is slower, but this car is much more comfortable. I didnt know cars could be so smooth.

Awesome machine.

That's the absolute beauty of the Mercs, raw German power with a civilized drive home. When I drove my former boss' CL55 AMG I was astonished on how insanely fast the car is...then on the drive back to the dealer it almost turned into a different animal when I obeyed the local traffic laws. Very comfortable and surprisingly quiet when you cruise, and let's not forget the fact that even though it's an automatic it can still be great fun. 👍

Did you get a chance to put the top down, Poverty?

Yeah, I now have a cold to show for it cause england aint too warm this time of year.

Was worth it though :D

Yeah I can certainly see now why AMG sell so many vehicles. I also now think that many magazines are rather biased in their reportings towards BMW's or that they are too sport orientated. The magazines should give more kudos to the AMG for being such a comfortable and quiet vehicle when doing normal driving but being also able to turn into a beast when you step on it. 👍

I love it :D

I agree with you about the magazines BMW bias. Granted my AMG experience is limited to an E55 and SL 55 but both are fantastic. Granted both are pushing six figures here in the states but it makes them no less great.

Sounds like you had a great night and the cold was probably well worth it.

BMWs are favoured because they also have a good ride in regular driving but have incredible handling/ feedback when you are pushing it.

mercs dont impart that same feeling at anything approaching ten tenths. i know that my 30 year old BMW 2002 gives me more feedback at 5/10s than my benz at 8/ 10s. therein lies your bias.

and im not saying this to be one of the sheep or to maintain the status quo or to maintain the prophetic wisdom that is given from automotive journalists or for whatever reason. im saying this as someone who as recently as a month ago had a glorious time in my 300E in the roads and canyons of utah blasting around at 100mph plus in decreasing radius (big) corners and experimented with weight transfer, early apexes, late apexes (not always intentionally!!!), slow in fast out, fast in oh- my- god- that- was- stupid- out, early and late braking and so on. the feel and involvement imparted by the benz is not near the BMWs.

id take a benz over any BMW for normal driving in traffic, that didnt involve feedback and handling. so thats why the benz is a daily driver, not the bmw.

I guess that is why I don't see BMW like most people do. I live in Illinois and we don't have canyons or corners for that matter. My BMW experience is also limited to a few test drives in a couple of different 3 series cars, and a ride in a 7 series. So I'm not tearing up the twisties or anything like that.

You cant really compare a really old BMW that lighter than a gnats arse to whats meant to be a luxury vehicle.

All Im saying is that in magazines reviews they should say that if you want out right performance go for the BMW and if you want a more luxuries everyday vehicle go for the MB hence there not being a winner but just one vehicle would suite one person better than than the other and vice versa.

Of course, being 16 years old, I haven't had a chance to drive neither the M or AMG but, in my opinion, M beats the AMG mainly except for creature comforts. MB itself acknowledged that BMW is often considered the sporty company while MB is like the super luxury sedans company.
