The site there has a medium select few members and they are looking for new recruits called "MetalWarriors". I recently just joined in that site.

Check out Lamb of God - Ashes in the Wake. Excellent album. Lamb of God is gaining popularity pretty quickly, so I wouldn't be surprised if people that don't really like Death, but can tolerate it, actually like this album, and more or less this band.

Lamb of God is a fantastic up and coming metal band.... I have been into them for a while... Good stuff...

I am sorry, Jimmy, but Biohazard is a nu-metal band. They stumbled after their New World Disorder album.

They were probably the first nu-metal band... However, it's different than most of todays nu-metal...

What's wrong with nu-metal?
It's not metal maybe? It's like rap, funk and rock combined and it's often called "riffless metal" because the guitars are usually only used to set an atmosphere. There goes any relation to metal right there. Guitars = one of the most important ingrediants in a metal band. Linkin Park are a nu-metal band. How many often do you hear a guitar note in any of their songs? About 5 times during the entire song. 👎

I refer you to this post.

You mean like
~AC/DC
~Led Zeppelin
~Pink Floyd
~Judas Preist
~Motley Crue
~etc. like that?
H**l yeah!

I like all them. You guys know of Judas Priest.

I haven't seen to many respond to bands like this. Ok, so they may not be metal, (Priest comes close on some songs), but they are Hard Rock which can be just as good. 👍

That's your preference then. As an alternative fan I listen to Tool, Pantera, APC, Staind, KoRN, and many other bands. Korn has gone downhill, but their early stuff was great. Blind is one of the best songs I heard. Limp Bizkit and Linkin Park shouldn't even be mentioned in the same sentence as metal. Ever since they started they went downhill and turned into pure ****. When they started I used to like them.

Shame.

Priest do come close. AC/DC are the best Aussie band (not just metal band) ever. Zeppelin and the Crue are good. I hate Pink Floyd. Bands like Linkin Park and Limp Bizkit bring down the name metal, along with Korn. Sorry, but they do. Your preference, I respect that. But it's the truth.

  1. Classic Rock
  2. Another Classic Rock band.
  3. Psychedelic/Progressive Rock. How the hell does that even come close to metal?
  4. 👍
  5. 👍 (Even though I don't particuarly like them)

Priest are metal. By today's standards they might not sound it, but go back 20-30 years and that's heavy metal for you. Like Black Sabbath. Unless you were around then, if someone said "Black Sabbath are metal gods foo!" you'd say to yourself "Stop smoking crack old man".

Tool are metal... progressive metal. Kinda like the modern, heavier, metal version of Meddle-era Floyd. Pantera are metal too. I don't particuarly no want sub-genre of metal (they're not death or anything like that, so I just labelled them plain 'ol metal). APC are Alt Rock, yes. Staind... haven't heard anything by them. KoRN are nu-metal. They were like, the founders of the (****ty) sub-genre. Did you read the post I linked to?

Limp Bizkit and Linkin Park can just die.

I agree with everything, except for the nu-metal part...

Nu-Metal actually began with bands like Anthrax and Biohazard... The term just wasn't coined until bands like Korn and Limp Bizkit came around...

Tool are very much indeed metal... They have influences all over the board... Everything from Black Sabbath to Joni Mitchel... Which is why they put such a different spin on most of your average metal compositions...

Yeah, I don't know much about nu-metal myself. That's a quote from a post someone else made at another forum I frequent.

Well, all you need to know is that it is complete garbage...

Edit: I also agree with you about the White Stripes... (in another thread)

Tool and Pantera at least partially fall under alternative metal, that's what I got from my source. They are also played on the two alternative stations that I listen to. Then again, they play AC/DC, too. I think alternative isn't clearly defined.

Yes, I read the post, and I didn't see anything stating that I should stop listening to KoRN and other nu-metal bands. I'm sorry you can't accept new forms of music. You're telling me nu-metal sucks, because it's not based on the guitar?

That's what I thought. Alot of Priest songs do sound metal. Not metal like todays, but still metal.

Question: What was the 1st metal band?

On one of your last 3 posts, I agreed. Korn was going downhill. They're starting to suck. There's nothing wrong with nu-metal, its just that its not really metal at all. Its a mixture if what Shannon said: rap, funk, & rock. THere are not very many bands that have alot of guitar solos. Now, quite a few of Priest's songs start out with a 10 sec guitar solo. And actually, alot of their songs have guitar solos. Linkin Park, yeah, yet to hear a full on guitar solo. Korn's suck. Metallica also has some good solos. But seriously, if it came to nu-metal vs. metal in guitar solos, there's not a doubt. We all know who would win. 👍

I don't really care about new forms of music or whether you like them or not, nor am I telling you to stop listening to nu-metal. I'm just saying it's misplaced as a sub-genre. How can it even be considered metal if it doesn't contain any riffs, solos, etc, or even sound metalish at all? You come into a metal forum and say about nu-metal, of course you're going to get frowned upon. It's like walking into a church on Sunday morning screaming "God is a lie!".

There's no definitve first metal band. Most will argue Black Sabbath though.
