The Metal ThreadMusic

Klonie Gun -- You're exactly like me as a matter of fact. The only genre out of those I don't like is PornoGrind. But one thing wrong: Ana1 Cun+ is NOT Porno Grind, it doesn't really have a genre as far as I know. Trust me, I have all Ana1 Cun+ bootlegs and CDs (which isn't illegal btw, because they post them all on their site). They are just plain GrindCore.
[Off Topic]If you have MSN, PM your address to me, I wouldn't mind chatting some quality Metal with someone that listens to the same stuff as me.[Off Topic]

icemanshooter23 -- I can't give you really any In Flames stuff, because I don't listen to them. That's what Shannon's for. But for Dimmu and Devolved, it's plain and simple. Dimmu have one good album in my opinion: "Darkness Enthrone Triumph". Every Devolved album is good, but their latest ("Calculated") is the best by far. Much heavier and they do a cover of Battery which far exceeds Metallica.

Devolved is now my favourite band, I'm seeing them next month which will be awesome.

Gtavcfan -- You're getting into Punk?!? Not good.

Sorry for the long post, but these are all the (proper) styles I can think of off the top of my head that I am into:
Death Metal, Black Metal (only some), Grindcore (including CrustCore, CyberGrind and GoreGrind), Tech Metal, Thrash, Metalcore, Industrial Metal (the Nu-Metal kind is just Nu-Metal, not Industrial...but I know what you mean iceman), Heavy Metal and Hard Rock. I hate Nu Metal and Love Metal.

Its bad only for you, its good for the fans that listen to it. Like I said, I'm starting, I'm not exactly 100% into punk, more like a 1 - or - 2% right now.

icemanshooter23
Jimmy, might you have any recommendation on In Flames?
Can I recommend you 'The Jester Race' and 'Whoracle' albuns? After that, In Flames became a bit repetitive and only 3 or 4 good songs come out of each album.

icemanshooter23
Jimmy, might you have any recommendation on specific songs be Devolved, Dimmu Borgir, or In Flames? Thanks, I hadn't really heard much of these bands and I want to give them a try.

If you like Dimmu, I can offer these:
Metal Heart
Mourning Palace
The Old Mans Child
Blessings Upon the Throne of Tyranny
Puritania (note-this is not a normal Dimmu song, its more like The Kovennant [Shagaroths old band])
United in Unhallowed Grace

I suggest everyone give a listen to Nile. Borrow someones cd and try a few tracks.

Nile are awesome, but I hate "Amongst the Catacombs of the Nephren-Ka" -- absolute crap. At least half of it is Egyptian boring crap. But their other albums are great.

gtavcfan -- I know US is a free country, I'm messing around.

Rock is O.K, but keep it good and decent, no posts about Nickelback or any Punk Rock, etc. Eg, AC/DC and Guns 'n' Roses are acceptable, and so are the bands that gtavcfan talks about, but keep it decent.

Yes, I know. It's pretty fair and sometimes inevitable to talk about Rock when talking about Metal.

It's just that Silverzone already opened a thread about Velvet Revolver (when there was already one) and keeps insisting.

And by the way, I also think VR rules. 👍

You like GnR but not Velvet Revolver? :odd:

Velvet Revolver is basically GnR with the Stone Temple Pilots frontman.

DiabolicalMask
This is a Metal Thread, Silverzone. Not Rock.

Velvet Revolver is a lot more metal than Rock. You don't have to scream to have a metal band.

Punk Rock Rules.

I disagree, Velvet Revolver are definately Rock. If Guns 'n' Roses are Rock, then VR are, too. Also, Metal is made up of a much harder and agressive style and sound.

Silverzone
Punk Rock Rules.
That's great. We all have our opinions, but this is called "The Metal Thread" for a reason.

I don't dislike VR, but they aren't anything stand-out or even original. They're trying to revive GnR, but I don't think it's working. I find them boring. But I didn't say they were unacceptable in this Thread did I?

But anyway, if you really want to talk about VR, there is already a thread like DiabolicalMask said. 👍

VR and Guns and Roses are metal. *IN MY OPINION* And why try and classify it all when everyone has a different opinion. There are bands I would classify different ways. Like:

Jet is Rock
Blink-182 Is Punk
Metallica is metal

and so on. I know a lot of people will disagree with me, so classifying music is pointless.

Yeah, I just find it strange. They're musically like GnR (strangely ), only they have a different vocalist.

Velvet Revolver & GnR are in no way metal. :odd:

Jet are ****
Blink-182 are ****
Metallica are 50% ****

:)

Silverzone
Jet and Blink Rule. and all Metallica Is coolness. See my point right there. Everybody likes different things.
Jet are just ripping off old rock & roll bands.

Blink are the biggest bunch of wankers going. d00d! Let's go get 10,000 tattoes and swear every second word in our songs (that have no meaning whatsoever and barely even touch 2mins) and we'll be the most awesome band ever!

And I'm still completely stumped how people can actually like Metallica's post-black garbage...

Metallica went downhill (IMO) after Black, and started to go downhill in Black.

Silverzone -- I have pointed out in this thread MANY times that we are ALL entitled to our opinions. GnR and VR are NOT metal. You may think they sound like Metal, but they are not classified as Metal. And I'm not stating what I think, it's actually a fact. Also, Blink are Pop-Punk...true Punk was Dead Kennedys and Sex Pistols.

Exactly my point!

All Metallica Rules. Except for St. Anger. they ****ed up on that one.

Just listened to a song by Devolved (available at Devolved's homepage, Thanks Jimmy) and I loved it. At first I didn't like the into part but after a few listens I began to love it. I especially liked the way the guitars switch to a more melodic tone for a period in the middle of the song. Nice!

I just love how they are so precise. Much more so, in my opinion, than Fear Factory. Just a few weeks away 'til I see them!

Bands that I listen to:

Slayer
Sepultura
Metallica
Soulfly
Deftones
Machine Head
Megadeth
Strapping Young Lad
Dead Kennedys
Stiff Little Fingers
Guns n' Roses
Biohazard
Black Sabbath
White Zombie
Rob Zombie

Most can be categorised under Metal with a few exceptions.

However, I've learnt as I've gotten older (I'm 26 now) that you can also branch out into other types of music. In addition, I listen to:

Johnny Cash
Josh Ritter
A lot of orchestral music and also, from time to time, I listen to a lot of Norwegian Black Metal from the mid 90s such as Emperor, Enslaved and Burzum.

Emperor and Burzum aren't too bad, although I'm not too into teh whole Black Metal scene. Slayer and Sepultura are great bands, but both bands have reached their primes now. Slayer are just too old, even though they've been one of my favourite bands for years now, they are still getting too old. Sepultura went way downhill as soon as they lost Max (in my opinion). They just lost that Sepul-ness about them.

I must say, you have some very big differences between music choice: from Thrash to Orchestral music. But still, you have a good diversity, and I can respect that.
