Well who made you the GTP post detective???.

No one did. I just don't like it when people bash things just because they don't like them.

I really should've expected some gay remark from someone who incorporates a gay TV shows title in their username.

What gay TV show? I tend not watch TV other then Speed and Sci-Fi. Is there a show called Slimer90210? Because if there is I need to be suing some people.

Don't try to be cool by trying to flame an older member than you. You'll just get burned yourself. Huh. Kinda like this isn't it.

I wasn't trying to be cool or to flame anyone, I was just asking that you show some respect. People that can't show respect for something just because they personally do not like it just annoy me.

Oh, and I seriously doubt you are older. Most people older then me can actually tell the difference between someone flaming them and someone simply asking them to have respect when they post.

You have to race ovals to enjoy this form of racing. It takes alot more to turn left than you might think.

Its not just left-hand corners in Nascar and IRL - they do have straight bits as well! ;)

Most definitely Italy. The Ferrari festivals are simply amazing. Hundreds of thousands of people show up wearing red, black, and yellow. I would say that the annual festival probably draws more attention than the Olympics.

It's kind of cool to see those "taxis" running on a road coures.Just shows the depth of the talent in NASCAR.

They have always had the two road course races, only change is the Busch series heading south of the border for a road course race in Mexico City.

Some of my favorite NASCAR races have been the road coarses.

The NASCAR driven Corvette did better then expected.

i voted for australia because we are the ones who have to stay up till the wee hours of the morning to watch formula one, champcars, motogp and wsk. and due to bad coverage, once we miss the race, it wont be replayed. so if you fall asleep during the race, and forgot to tape it, well, your screwed

Take it from a guy who played Papyrus' "NASCAR Racing" Series. While it may be easy on paper or on TV, you have to keep in mind that while going around the ovals, you have to account for all the traffic around the oval including what others may be doing. Sometimes, a minor mistake can ruin EVERYTHING for you. I often dislike having to do oval racing in games because as much as you can climb through the pack, you can easily ruin it all. While ovals can be monotonous, there's still plenty of skill you'll need to do well.

As I may have said earlier, Italy is SO passionate. They have all the fast sports cars (and then Alfa Romeo), and not to mention a big involvement in racing. They basically live, breathe, and sleep racing and performance. How can you vote them out as being the most passionate racing country in the world? On another side, the Japanese fans are very animated. Sorry for the sports plug, but these race fans are either like a good college football game or an English Premier Leauge game between Manchester and Arsenal (I'd like to see one one day). So there's several choices. And if yours isn't up there, you can always vote "none of the above," then specify what country is.

At least you get something other than ovals. :indiff: I just can't understand the American fascination with NASCAR/Indy Racing, when you could be watching WRC, F1, Champcars, etc.

No offense, but comapared to F1 Grand Prix, NASCAR is like my morning commute. I don't doubt NASCAR racing requires skills, but their skill levels are nowhere near that of the Formula One drivers IMO. To any NASCAR fans reading this, I'm sorry about my whining. It's just that, it's so frustratings to turn on the TV on a weekend and all I see is one of the two forms of oval racing. I miss CART!

John might know the details better than myself, but didn't one of the Nascar drivers (Robby Gordon?) do a very impressive F1 test in a Williams a while back?

I love F1, have done since as long as i can remember. A lot of people can remember where they were when they first heard that Elvis had died or JFK shot or Diana killed in a car crash. Being a fan of F1, i can clearly remember exactly where i was when i heard that Senna had died and even where i was when i saw that Villeneuve had died, even though i was only very young. What i'm saying is that even though i have F1 coursing through my veins - i can still see that there are other drivers out their who are just as tallented and just as quick as F1 drivers, but just never get the chance to shine or choose not go into F1 either because they are not interested or in the case of Robby Gordon & Dale Earnhardt Jr they earn more than they would in F1 anyway. Valentino Rossi, of Moto GP fame, is another motorsport master who has had a great test in an F1 car, i'm sure he could make the switch from two wheels to four quite easily - but again he chooses to stick to Moto GP. F1 might be perceived as the pinnicle of motorsport, and it certainly attracts a majority of the tallent, but i think that its nieve to state that F1 drivers have all the talent.

Don't forget Jeff Gordon. He did a great job at Indy. His lap times would have put him in the mid pack. Not bad for his first try.The reason,I think, for the American love of ovals is because they like to have all the action in front of them. And by looking at all the short tracks in the U.S. it seems that it is imprinted on them. Also it takes a lot less land to put up a short track compared to a 2 mile road coures.

Dirt ovals are very popular in my area. Although I do tend to get bored watching NASCAR on TV I can spend all weekend in the pits at the dirt track watching modifieds and sprint cars... The World Of Outlaws is alot of fun to watch...

World Of Outlaws ; Non-wing open weel racing is where it's at. Some of the best competition is 18 or so 410 Sprint Cars/Midget's on a well prepared clay 1/4 mile oval. Winged racing put's the average guy out of competition cause the motor needed to keep up and tyre's cost so much $$$. The popular forms of motorsport finally have realized that.

I don't see how so many of you think road racing is entertaining to watch. I'll admit I love taking part in such events but to watch, I'll take local short tracks over that anytime. It's so boring seeing car's following eachother, where is the passing? Mind you overtaking is completely overrated. When I went to the F1 race at Indy a few years back everyone got so excited just to see a lapped car get passed on the main strait. Baffled the hell out of me. Close quarter's racing is much more exciting not only to watch but to take part in aswell. As JohnBM01 said, one small mistake and your screwed. There is not enough competition in road racing today, I was watching the goodwood festival of speed and the old 50's sportscars were much more entertaining with them sliding around on those skinny tyre's fender to fender.

One of you also mentioned that F1 drivers are much better than todays NASCAR drivers, go do some research about the swap JPM and Jeff Gordon did at Indy a few years back. F1 is more about the car than the driver these days, it's sad. :indiff:

you'd think they'd be wearing some red white and green too. lol.

This thread is probably more nationalistic than it is scientific...

However,
I'm gonna say ...

Well, there is no winner.

Of course I'm going to make a strong case for America.

Basically, I look at it like this.
Each country on the board has something they do a bunch of.

Brazil:
Ok you got me, I don't know what they do besides create good drivers.

United Kingdom:
All sorts of good drivers.
F1, touring, GT, Etc.
The "Brits" do pretty much everything (cept nascar)

Germany:
Not the same sort of everything as UK... The germans seem to have a higher concentration on something I love- Touring and GT. 👍
Lots and lots of that stuff from the germans.
Yet still, everything else pretty much.

France:
:indiff:
(I've been offended too many times since 9/11 to talk about them outside of a select few great fellas in the WRS  )

Italy:
Can you say Super Car
What can you say of the home to all road going speed demons.
Motocycles, V12s, Mid Engine Monster!
The Italians seem to be on track with everyone else only they come across as passionate.

Japan:
Where to begin?
These guys love it all as long as it has speed and a car they can build for it.
Rally, GT, Street, F1, ... They just seem to love all of it. (cept nascar)

Australia:
I don't know the "Aussies" for much more than touring and gt car events.
V8 Super Touring Cars are awesome, don't see them any where else in the world it seems. :odd:

Finally,
America:
I feel like we do it all.
My town has a huge dirt track in nascar style (rednecks lol)
We love the drafting and strategy of NASCAR.
GT, Touring, ALMs, F1, Indy, Motorcycles, Drag, Street, Destruction Derby, Boats!
There's really nothing I can think of that we don't like to take part in.

So what's the bottom line?
Who is the Most Passionate Country?

The Countries With The Money To Race.

Sad, I know. :(
But it takes money to race and if your country has enough rich people to run races. 👍
Other wise you end up with a love of motorsports and no way to run them. :(

Again, that's another reason I love the Motorsports of my country.
It might not all be stuff that I watch or follow but atleast my redneck country-men will get out on the track with a re-built '88 Oldsmobile and run a dirt track till their tires wear out.

I know other countries take those actions on their soil too but I just don't get exposure to it.
Oh well, atleast I'm trying to be open about my nationalism. :flagwaving:
jk.

But hey, that's just my view.
I could be a little crazy.

Btw,
Edit:

Is that why Jeff Gordon and "some other random NASCAR driver" took on the ROC in 2002 and beat the best of the best? (in the other guys' rally cars!)
(sure it's not a consistant thing, but we just got started and we already have a victory... By Nascar drivers!!!)

Remember, it's not how much skill your racing requires, it's how much skill your driver has!

That's true, very good point. It definitely came out wrong, when I basically said F1 Drivers - Good, NASCAR Drivers - sucky. I'm sorry about that. :ouch: Still, isn't Jeff Gordon an Senna/Schmacher type superstar in NASCAR? When I compared F1 drivers and NASCAR drivers, I was generalizing, and I have no doubt that there are some NASCAR drivers who are as good as anybody in any racing. Only example I can come up with at the moment to make my point is, Japanese Pro Baseball. Japanese baseball is not quite at an level of Major Leaguers, but there are some Japanese players who can compete at the level of Majors. Swap Japanese with Indy/NASCAR and Major League with F1.

Someone mentioned how F1 is more about the cars than the drivers. Last time I got to see an Monaco GP on ABC, cars didn't impress me, it was all about the drivers.

P.S. I'd like to apologize for going off-topic, on top of possibly offending other members with my comments. This won't happen again, at least until the F1 vs. NASCAR thread. :D

I voted for UK we have some great tracks fast and mid speed plus some tracks, are in nice area's also we have some of the best races in the world like the BTCC real bumper to bumper action.

Also in the BTCC some of the racers fight if they both went off the track both at the same time.

BTCC is some insane stuff. Had Speed Channel have shown these races in PRIMETIME rather than in the afternoon, I would have seen all the damn races. I think if you like NASCAR, you'll love the BTCC. Don't worry about the names. Don't worry about the cars. Don't worry about the tracks. Just watch these drivers compete to limit. At one point, I, or someone else said that this is REAL stock car racing. This type of stuff is great to watch.

From what I seen last year or so, England has one more wonderful type of racing, British GT. The moment I seen TVRs, Mosler MT900Rs, and such, I was in love. It reminded me so much of what I liked about sportscar racing- sexy cars, fast cars, and great drivers. But, many of us are relegated to NASCAR.

Good point there but they don't run non-wings at any track in my area so the only thing I get to see are 410 full-wings and 360 1/2-wings, well and Modifieds, Late Models and Hobby Stocks. I admit it costs alot to compete with the 410s but 360s aren't so bad.

America. This is a country where more people watch or go to Monster truck rallies than go to or watch Women's basketball or soccer.
