This is the first official picture of the Chevrolet Vectra, fully designed in Brazil. (although the sides are very similar to it's european brother).

No pic of the back yet.

Some of the specs were also revelead.

- 2.0 8V engine (130hp)
- 2.4 16v engine (165hp)

Both engines are FlexFuel, meaning that it can run on Gasoline or Ethanol, pure or mixed. (This technology is becoming an standard in Brazil, since most cars now have FlexFuel versions).

Another important factor of why i'm posting this here. The new Vectra will occupy the place of the actual Chevrolet Astra Sedan, meaning that the Astra will continue only with the Hatchback version. This directly affects the Brazilian V8 Stock Cars Series.

So next year we'll probably have a battle on track with:

- Chevrolet "New Vectra" (replacing the Chevrolet Astra Sedan)
- Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution IX (replacing the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution VIII)
- Renault Mégane Sedan II (Not confirmed yet)
- Toyota Corolla (Not confirmed yet)

I'm sorry, but there is no way this car will ever compete with any Evo. Sorry.

Hell yeah it will! American four-banger muscle all the way :mischievous:

 I lied

But he did mention that they could drop a V8 in it for some racing series....

I think you didn't got the idea:

Brazilian V8 Stock Cars -> Despite all differences in the cars, all of them use the same 500HP 5.7 V8 Engine.

only down bottom would they put the chevy bowtie on an Opel/Vauxhall. at least it looks pretty good.
now, if only the US gov't would un-scrooge on gas, and quit hiding the stockpiles in secret places. the cold war is over. they should be letting it out.

what is happening with the horse power? the new honda civic type-r will have a 2.4 litre with 240bhp 75 more than that thing

It's identical to the new Vauxhall Vectra exept for the Cheverolet badge, it's all this brand sharing GM are doing, like they introduced Cheverolet over here in the UK, but they simply re-badged all the Daewoo's as Cheverolets. I don't like all this brand sharing myself, the Vectra should be a Vauxhall, the Matiz should be a Daewoo and proper Cheverolet's should be Cheverolet's.

I suppose this makes the Vectra slightly less boring, and the price of being slightly uglier.

A fair trade?

The new domestics are crap. Honda and Toyota are smashing american made coupes and sedans, for the most part, into the ground. Faster, more attractive, and more user friendly car from the "H" are embarassing the once dominate domestic companies like, Chevy and Ford. Until they learn that if they want to sell cars to the youth that they are going to need power/style then they need to stick to the soccermom mini vans, not saying the Honda Odyssey kick their asses anyways....

But on the site it said this car is designed in brazil.
Actually, I was wrong, they arn't identicalo, they're just similar, very similar. They are the same car but the Chevy version has a different grille and slightly less anglular lights. I didn't realise the last Vectra was sold in the US as a Chevy either but that one besides the badge had the same grille and front lights too.

So I take it that chevy wont be sold here then! :sly:

Won't Vauxhall get annoyed with its own parent company introducing competiton which will directly compete with Vauxhall's own range! for example the matiz and the corsa....... surely thats counter productive and UK people are generally gonna trust a brand that thye have seen around in the UK for longer......

No because GM don't sell the Chevy Vectra and the Vauxhall/Opel Vectra in the same countries. Chevrolet's get sold here in the UK but theyre simply re-badged Daewoo's we still get the Vauxhall Vectra.

Yeah, but what I ment was what is the point of having lets say 2 super mini class cars such as the Vauxhall Corsa and Chevolet Matiz under the same company exsisting in the UK because they will compete with each other by default.......thats what happens when you have cars of the same size!

Well.......I guess if you think about it, it could be like the dixons / pc world situation.......they are in competion with one another but are owned by the same company, so whereever people spend there money it will end up in the same business bank acoount......

I think I answered my own question!

They were still competing when it was called the Daewoo Matiz, that happens when several marquees are part of one group, you can't stop them competing unless each marquee is very distinct and specialist like Lotus and Proton, both very different, but then look at VAG, you have Audi and VW competing at certain levels you've got Lamborghini getting upstaged by Bugatti performance wise it happens all the time, all they can do is try to minnimise the competition between them, like the Matiz and Corsa, they compete but generally someone after a Corsa won't consider a Matiz, somone after a Matiz might consider a Corsa though.

The Matiz and the Corsa don't directly compete with each other, they are in different market segments and price points.

The Corsa is priced between £7k and £13.4k and is 3817mm x 1646mm, the Matiz is priced £6k and £7.5k and is 3495mm x 1493mm.

The price difference is obvious and despite the size differences looking small, in the metal they are very different.

The Cherolet Kalos (the Matiz replacement and a move up to the next segment) is a different story, priced between £7k and £10k and a size of 3880mm and 1670mm its on paper a direct competitor for the Corsa.

However this is not always a problem, if they get the marketing and brand placement right, target them at different customer profiles and it could work. Vauxhall drivers tend to be older and will want the reassurance of a brand that many in the general public still think (incorrectly) is British is some way. The Kalos is better placed to target the less brand loyal younger end of the market who are after a more modern look (debatable in this case) at a lower price point.

The VAG group are the model they would almost definatly be looking at in this regard, they target and sell the Audi A3, VW Golf, Skoda Fabia and Seat Ibiza to a broad spectrum of the market with out any major issues of conquest sales from within their own brands.

And remember from GM point of view, they will not care if someone buys a Chevy or a Vauxhall, so long as they buy a GM product.

Badge engineering (as it is known) is not something I am a big fan off, but while I have been working in the motor industry it is something that has become more commonplace, for obvious reasons (costs and economies of scale being the key ones along with segment domination).

It has however recently shown a better face, with the C1, 107 and Aygo; not a petrolheads first choice, but if my Father in law was after a new car, one of these would be ideal for him, cheap, small and well built.

Yeah, I thought that maybe the Matiz is smaller and cheaper and would be competing with something like the Vauxhall Agila.........which am I right in thinking is like a copy of a small Suzuki?

Spot on, the Agila is basically a Suzuki Wagon R with some different trim and badges on it, and is without a doubt (in either form) one of the most horriable cars on the face of the planet.

Seeing one wants to make me blind myself and when I had to drive them (for my job - not all perks damn it) I had a deep desire to drive repeatedly into a wall as fast as possiable.

Any injury to myself would have been more than balanced by the good done for society with one of these things removed from the automotive gene pool.

I agree.......the Agila is a shocking car.............in many ways!

Bring back and all new Nova! now that would be interesting! :sly:

Nice idea but I doubt GM would go for it, they are keen to use the same model names throughout Europe.

The problem here would be that No Va can be roughly translated from Spanish as No Go, not an ideal name, but some would say that it was ideal for the original Nova.

LOL :)

The odd thing is the the Suzuki version is quite a good car.

Sorry, that I just can't agree with that, it may be slightly better than the Agila, but for £8k I can think of a lot better places to put your money, like a mid spec Fiat Panda for a start.

Wow the Brazilian design team is original. They just took the files from the cobalt and made it bigger.
