The next-gen MX-5 Miata thread

They forgot that little powerdome on the hood.. Or would that be a masked vent, similar to the one in Evo?

Just realized that the MX-5 is now 27 years old. That makes it exactly as enduring as this:

...except with no signs of slowing down.

I'm not looking forward to the Abarth Spider thing. Judging from the camo test car image above, it looks like Fiat will again be slapping the 500's face on a car that doesn't suit it. It's as if the designers went "hey, look at us, we have this cool retro face, isn't it so awesome? Let's put the face on every single car we do, even to the detriment of its appearance! It's way better than coming up with something original for every car!"

How is that different from any other manufacturer out there? All manufacturers from Aston Martin to Volkswagen do it.

My issue with Fiat specifically is that the face they use is a very specifically designed face for a specific shape of car (i.e. the 500). It really doesn't work on any other shape. It would be more like VW using the Beetle's face on every car they make, because it's retro and chic.

I really dont see anything on this test car that looks like a 500. 500's Clearly doesnt have a upper Grill 1st of all. Headlights on Fiat Cars might be round (thats the only major Family resemblance) but in what kind a Shape of "Round"? Circle? Oval? what Degree is that Round shape turned?

First one in Grand Rapids, one of the Launch Editions. They said they know for sure they've got three more coming in, and they've all been spoken for.

I just want to sit in one, dammit.

My local dealership has a few red and tan ones listed on their website as of yesterday. No idea if they are actually available or not. Might check them out this weekend if they are.

I'm sure FM is working on it...

An ND showed up to our meet the other night, so I was able to sit in it. I fit really well! For being the similar outer dimensions as the NA/NB, the interior is very roomy in comparison. I'm about 5' 11" and was very comfortable.

Seems like none of my pics are working lately...

Was up in Phoenix running errands today and stopped by a Mazda dealer to see if they had one of these in stock. Walked into the showroom and was greeted by a salesman asking "Looking for something in particular?" I just pointed at the shiny launch edition right in front of me and walked right past him. :P

Loved everything about it except that it was an auto. :grumpy:

He's going to call me when they get some GT's in...
