In your opinion, which country makes the best looking cars?

Turbo Regal talk yesterday gave me a bug up my butt and I ended up finding this one.

It's not a G-body!

It's a '78, the first year for the second gen, so it's actually an A-body.

It's also...green.

I was hesitant to post the underhood shot because of how grimy it is, but it is a turbo Buick and it felt wrong to leave that out.

That brings back memories, I had a '79 with the non turbo 3.8 back in high school. Sadly I wrecked it when a 1977 firebird driver was driving with no headlights on a rainy night in December. I thought it was clear, turns out I was wrong. Luckily nobody was badly hurt, but both cars were done for.

Since we're reminiscing. Same as that green Buick, one of my uncles had a similar green on green Monte Carlo.

Same color as my Grandfather's Cutlass.

Yeah, his was super clean. Had clear vinyl covers on the seats. Flashback on a trip from the BX to Great Adventure one Summer. HOT!

Unfortunately, my Grandfather had wire wheel covers on his.

If there's any question as to why I've opted to not post this '74 SE in the muscle cars thread (apart from it being a Charger SE with a thoroughly unimpressive 318 underhood), just look at the interior.

Funny you post the Nova. Watched the movie Love Jacked, last night and this is in it. Gets shown throughout the movie. So perfect.

Thankfully that 6.6 is a Pontiac and not the Olds 403 they started using in '77. Huge bores in those 403s made them spectacularly oversquare (rivaled among American V8s by only the GMC 637, but those aren't exactly rodder fodder and they're now rare as hens' teeth), but windowed mains are problematic even with a girdle.

I mentioned the GMC 637 above. Here's a video of one:

That'll scatter the chickens.

Basically a 478 V6 with two more cylinders, it's built on the GMC 60° V6 architecture (instead of the more typical and better balanced 90° utilized for V8s) with 5.125" pistons and a 3.86" throw. For comparison, Chevrolet's 427 big block, while itself still oversquare (the bore is wider than the stroke is long), has a 3.76" stroke length. The 637 is massively oversquare but it definitely wasn't built to wind out; 2500rpm was pretty close to the end of the world.

Cosworth Vegas are ok, but I'd rather have a Yenko Stinger Vega, especially with the aftermarket turbo option.

:P

Hard not to dig all those more-door hardtops, including what--given the venue--could easily be Syd Mead's Imperial (the black car pictured next to the Ambassador quoted above). Also loving those Pontiac 8-luggers and the '62 Olds.

It’s a show called Eyes on Design this years theme was old brands that don’t exist any more. It’s at the Edsel Ford house in Detroit.

Yeah, I'm familiar with the show. That's why I brought up Syd Mead, because he owned a '72 Imperial that looks very much like the one there and he was a famous industrial designer.

I wasn't aware of the theme, but it makes sense in hindsight.

There was no modern stuff this year but I think next year it’ll be a little bit of everything depending on what the theme will be. No supercars etc.
