My friend/next door neighbour was banned from Twitter for 12 hours yesterday for using the C word...

Considering we live in Glasgow, I think that's a tad unfair... it's practically a term of endearment here.

My friend/next door neighbour was banned from Twitter for 12 hours yesterday for using the C word

I was banned for 7 days recently for use of the same word. At the time I was talking about a beloved, endearing and popular English TV presenter who recently left work.

No complaints. Annoying for me, sure, and I'm annoyed at the inconsistency of Twitter's application of bans but it's their platform.

Did the presenter simply leave or was it more of a performative storming-out, indignant that a coworker would accurately describe and call out his ********?

The narrow should indeed have been widened, but change may well be a better word. However, that doesn't change the point at all. I said exactly what I meant.

If you have to force a definition to the point that reactionary comments are the same as widespread historic racism, you are forcing the definition to obtain a pre-set conclusion, which is exactly what I said, twice!

"which is the wrong way around to approach something, you don't work towards a conclusion that you force to support your position - it's poor critical thinking"

"In short, that article has to change the definition of racism to force it to meet a pre-determined outcome, uses weak examples, and even then fails to demonstrate what you were claiming"

You used it to argue that if white-only dating apps are racist, then ones for minorities must also be racist. That's equivalence.
Maybe, maybe not.

He took a long walk off a short Piers.

[EDIT]One of our soap actresses has repeated the stunt. Jealous of the publicity, I expect.

What's mad about that is, as Ben Shephard points out, the thing she got offended by was a quote from her own autobiography of her describing herself. And she was on there to promote her "wellness" (what?) brand, Good and Proper... which seems to be nothing more than inspirational Instagram posts from a retired actress who now lives in Malibu.

I mean, I guess they could have put it in quotes. I suppose it's understandable she hadn't read it or anything.

Edit: She's now posted on Instagram to say that people shouldn't believe it's from her book because she hasn't written a book in 20 years.

I find that an exceptionally odd notion, because writing a new book doesn't change the words in the old one. And because "All of Me" came out in 2007.

Knowing next to nothing of the situation, I was sympathetic prior to reading the context @Famine provided.

I'm starting to get concerned by a reoccurring theme with these tweets being made people who apparently attempted runs for Congress....
That she failed miserably is a comfort, but Rep. Madison Cawthorn (R-NC) is trying to accomplish basically the same thing and he isn't quite so aggressively stupid.

...

Edit: Whoops! Maddie is a representative of North Carolina.

I'm gonna guess the whole "We need to ban porn" is coming from a religious belief and therefore "justified".

I thought she was talking about making a different kind of sandwich with her husband and someone else at first. I guess I am a lost soul.
Well, that's a bit more consistent with what people deem to be a sinful act than the pathetic anti-feminist strawman.

Just wait until he hears what Madonna got up to on the Sex tour back in the '90s!!

"Censorships bad, unless it's the stuff we want to censor, then it's fine, and if you disagree with me, then your Hitler!"

Correct me if I'm wrong, but that's basically the gist of his noise? I mean I'm still reasonably sure that watching the Grammy's in the US hasn't been made mandatory yet, and anyone not wanting to be corrupted by the 'devils music' was able to simply not watch it.

Frustratingly we have the same crap going on in the UK, but the idiots are actually still in charge here, where they are attempting to make peaceful protest a jailable offence and want to ensure that only what they deem to be acceptable speech is OK, but don't you dare say anything bad about that 'not racist at all - saviour of all Mr Churchill'.

Edited to add.

Hold on a damn second, Mr Christian Rock Band has his nose pierced!

Umm, he's going to hell!
