That's why there seems to be a lot of discussion about a wealth tax - or a tax on assets - rather than income.

It's not about how well you think you're doing. It's about the reality that the more money you make, the more "disposable income" you have available. Taxes may take an increased bite out of your earnings as they go up (possibly, but not necessarily), but the amount of spending power you have for discretionary purchases increases far more than the additional tax due. Of course, this reaches weird proportions when you have the wealth of someone like Bezos, where - literally - he would be unable to spend the amount of money he has in a lifetime.

Anyone who owns their own business is inevitably motivated more by the desire to build a successful business than the simple goal of making money. I'm sure that's true of people like Bezos, Steve Jobs, Bill Gates, Mark Zuckerberg, Elon Musk, Richard Branson etc. It's a bit different from somebody who works to earn a wage or salary.
That's the thing, it's not my business. I'm a independent contractor. As far as the IRS is concerned I am a small business. I get to write off things but I haven't had to buy anything recently that would make a big difference.
Lady tells me every year, Im so sorry but you owe xxxx. Again I might not pay as much as y'all but I DO pay. FYI Danoff fine is only $600 for the year. Id say 2/3 is Fed other third state. I'm not paying into social or med. God help me when I retire. Hopefully I die first.

You should not be paying a fine. I'm going to back that fine out of the $7k estimate you gave me and round it down to $6k. If you say 2/3 of that is federal, and that it includes zero SS and medicare (not sure how that works), we'll call it a total tax liability, with zero dependents, single filer, of $4k. That puts you at $47.6k income based on this: https://www.pacificservice.org/calculator/tax-ez1040

Your effective federal tax rate is 8.4% if that income level is right. That's extremely low, but relatively high based on that income. If you had 1 dependent you'd pay roughly zero tax. Even at 8.4%, that's below what would be considered "pulling your weight" in terms of the federal budget. You're effectively subsidized by rich people, but not as much as would be the case if you had a dependent.

I have a son but can't claim him.
I honestly have no idea where it goes. I just know the IRS and GA send me letters and the current and ex wifey deal/delt with that stuff.

We seriously need a tweet thread. A tweet is not a meme! A tweet is not a image! Or a cartoon!

No. Tweets can contain political cartoons or images, tweets are images in and of themselves when presented in screenshot form, and by their very nature as social media content, tweets are relevant to "meme-dom."

Memes are not images with words over, above and/or below them even if such images may be memes, just as candy may not be Smarties even if Smarties are candy. Memes come in many forms. A stand-alone URL may even be a meme, such as a particular example that links to a music video for an '80s pop hit from British singer-songwriter Rick Astley.

"I get triggered by Twitter content" is not sufficient cause for others to not post it. Get over it, peanut.

Check your last post, peanut. I come here to see funny political pictures. Not threads of words with no pictures, peanut.

Cry more.
I just reported you and put on my ignore list.
I'm done with your years of harassment.

Edit, cry me a river thanks for helping my reaction score with a response troll.

Ther have been tweets on this thread for the last four years. It seems a bit strange to only start complaining about them now.

That's different man, don't start twisting things bro.
Show me a cartoon or meme in this post. Technically an image in one but it's nothing more than a news article link.
And I've BEEN complaining about for a damn good while! Seems y'all just ignore me.

This one is harsh, but honest:

Edit: Laugh on tex, sadly when ignored I can still see that you ****ing troll.

"News article." Though, to be fair, it had to be pointed out to me that DPRK News Service is satire. Sure, it was the first time I'd seen a tweet from the account and the example wasn't so obviously satirical as others. It wasn't until later that I learned Ken "Popehat" White contributes to the content posted...and it was weird.

Edit:

And I've BEEN complaining about for a damn good while!
This is legitimately funny.

Why not start a tweet only thread? If the mods close it down because tweets are okay everywhere else... well, at least they're not ignoring you.

Maybe I should stick with Facebook in the future. No one complained about those yet.

Whatever man. And that's a screen shot of a Tweet.

This is an actual Facebook post. Guess what, you can click on it and go somewhere outside of this site, like guess what? A ****ing tweet.

Holy crap. So I went looking for the post that informed me of DPRK News Service's satirical bent, and I found it, but I also found...this:

No images in the post--just two tweets from the account. Exactly the same as my post up-thread. And he "liked" it!

And? I've liked your posts too.
I'm tired of having to scroll this thread to see actual memes.
What is so hard to understand?

Laugh on Mikey, you don't even know what an actual FB post is...

Okay, so I desperately want to quote you as having said you added me to your ignore list, quote you as responding to a post of mine after having put me on your ignore list, and post that picture of the monkey puppet with the awkward look.

But I'm not going to.

I really want to spell out the significance of what you've just quoted me as having said, though it really ought to be obvious.

But I'm not going to.

Instead I'm going to make an effort to appeal to you. I'm going to make an effort to be civil.

Maybe this thread is for content of a political nature that people find funny, in whatever form it may come. I know that's how I treat it and I know others treat it that way as well. So not everyone finds the same things funny, and there are plenty of disagreements about the substance of content and things are frequently posted with the apparent intent to goad others, but this is a discussion forum and there are going to be discussions. Sometimes people who want only to see funny things are going to have to scroll past things that aren't what they're seeking.

Kinda hard to ignore you when I still see this.

Fair enough, still... Actually post some memes man, instead of arguing and wasting people's time having to scroll past this kinda BS.
As was pointed out, plenty of threads for political text walls of tweets.

Scroll up. I posted two examples of what you would consider memes about twelve hours ago. One was the picture of Taliban fighters/representatives in the Afghani capitol building but the faces of prominent Republicans have been transplanted onto the originals and the other has the faces of Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) and Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) swapped, using a picture that I understand was taken in Des Moines, IA while they were there for an America First rally. Both of these images are going around, which is meme theory in a nutshell as it refers, broadly, to the process by which information spreads through a population.

I also posted a couple of editorial cartoons.

As for the tweets from DPRK News Service, maybe give them another read and try to understand that political humor is the point. The second one is a dig at both Biden and the Taliban, and in both cases it is justified.

I post things that I find funny. I understand that others may not see the humor in what I find funny. I also understand others may not agree with any political sentiment espoused therein. I'm okay with that.

Can we be done with this? I mean...done done? It's kind of ridiculous. This is a sincere plea.
