The 'REAL' BMW 2002 Series (OPEN)

lol, thats roughly the same setup I am running. first lap out today I ran a 1:46 with tons of mistakes. I love the way this car handles this track. A little bit of oversteer to make things fun, but still fast. You do have a bit more power than me Egghead. i only have 209 to your 213.

On this car, I can see the LSD really making a difference, probably would control the oversteer a lot. As for the transmission, thats debatable. this car has enough low end torque to make up somewhat for the wide gear ratios, and from what I have seen on this track, the gearing is not too bad. Maybe only 1 or 2 corners that I am left between gears.

alright, i've pretty much hit a wall at 1:42.8xx. 5 laps in a row at that time. Just can't seem to improve on it, using the whole track from rumble strip to rumble strip lol. I am leaving my qualifying time as stated earlier though.

Sorry for being that guy but it's annoying to get into a GTP series (where there's supposed to be clean racing) and get put in the wall on turn 1. It was probably an accident, but it certainly was a well executed pit maneuver. Maybe it's on the replay, who knows. My frustration is just magnified due to the 2 hours I spent today doing a multi-race series with guys from the forum where I was used as a turning assist pretty much every race. My poor handling setup didn't help matters, as I'd be spinning out at least once a lap at the corkscrew for sure and probably other places as well.

Doesn't take much of a tap to spin one of these cars in a turn. I think we all had spinouts at some point in the race. Unfortunately I forgot to save the replay before I left, so hopefully t-money has it and can verify things.

Im pretty sure I was the one who tapped you. It was not intentional, my back end kicked out a little bit coming out of the turn and that was what caused the contact. It was a total accident and I apologize. Although I think your taking it a little far, a lot of people in the race spun out. If you had stayed in the race you may have made up some ground. I assure you that I am a clean racer, but I will apologize again for the mistake.

It's no problem man, I figured it wasn't intentional. And I doubt I'd have made up ground; I was spinning through turns 2 and 3, so I'm sure the corkscrew would have done a number on me. I just decided that it would be more work than fun to wrestle with the car for half an hour... and that's not what we're here for right? We're here for fun.

I'll just have to spend more time getting a good setup before the next race. :)

Indeed, this car can be a lot of fun with the right setup! 👍

Check out my settings on page 3 which I used for Laguna. It's almost the opposite of what needed to be done to the Miata, but it seems to keep the tail in check on this car. It's not a perfect setup by any means since I'm not a tuning expert, but it's probably a good place to start.
It's quite understandable not to want to wrestle with a tail happy setup for the whole race, especially at Laguna :scared:

Dear all, it was my first run out last weekend in the car and had no time to look at the set up properly.

I did use most of your setting Egghead43 as i was late on in joining.

I had terrible tire wear and by lap 5 i was down to 25% left.....after i left the race (Sorry for leaving, but the car was just not drivable) , i watched the rest of you guys and the great racing that followed and everyones tire wear was looking reasonable good, around the 75% mark. I appreciate the rear end was loose but there was such a difference.

Any suggestions as to why? (I do use a controller and not wheel, but i am sure many people are also not on wheels ! )

Any help would be appreciated. I am going to run it to death tonight to figure out the set up further.

smooth = fast = more tire left.

Can't drive every lap for the win...

smooth is key.

I will miss yet again this weekend. Headed out to Baltimore, MD to pickup an E36 328 w/ a friend.

What up, I have a practice room open right now 3:30 est 2/11, all are welcome. The room name is "low hp" and it should be open for at least 60 to 90 min.

My setup is for a wheel, and I use left foot braking. I would increase the rear toe, spring rate, and ride height even further if I was using a controller. You definitely need to be smooth with the throttle and steering inputs on this car to keep it from drifting. Too much of that is neither fast, nor good for tire wear.

My qualifying time is 1:05.610. Seem to be pretty consistent just above that number, so that's what it will be.

Qualifying lap 1:04.879. I guess all that practice at Tsukuba in my Spec Miata really helped me learn this track. That's the fastest I've run in anything there.

Any way to push the start of the race back a little tonight? I gotta catch the Bud Shootout on Fox tonight and it's not supposed to end until 10 EST

I can host the race tonight if your not able to do it tmoney. Just send a qualifying list to me and I can get it all going. Let me know ASAP.

Jay_B_ll: The race is at 10pm EST. The time listed in the race info is for CST, 1 hour behind us in the eastern time. We can probably give you a few extra minutes to join though.

Alright Egghead. Sorry we won't see you tonight.

For everyone else, if tmoney doesn't have a room open by 8:30 pm CST, I will host the race. Hopefully we will have a good turn out. We will follow the standard starting procedure based on the qualifying results, with the others in the back. Same process as last week.

Ok, I've got a room open now for the race. There will be 30 minutes of practice time.

I'm not at home so it looks like I'll be missing this weeks race. Sucks cause I was running pretty good when I was practicing.

Well, that was a bust. Had a good quick shootout with Torzilla, but nobody else showed up. Maybe we can hold the Tsukuba race another time. Its a great track and I would love to have a good race with everyone here.

This series seems to be just barely limping along :(

Perhaps the Saturday night time slot isn't working? I'd be up for a mid-week race at the same time, like Wednesday nights. Saturday nights really aren't the best for me personally, and I already know I won't be able to make the 26th which sucks because it's the 'ring 👎

Thoughts?

I planned on racing tonight but I went to a party at my cousin's house that was supposed to start @ 3 but ended up not really starting until like 7 so I didn't make it home until 10:15. We definately should reschedule Tsukuba because I was having a lot of fun with this car on this track and it was really fun. As for Eggs idea of mid week, Wednesday night would be good for me, most other nights I'm watching TV shows at 10 and I really don't need to DVR anything else, I'm already struggling to watch what I have recorded.

This sounds like a interesting series idea, so I would like to join in the fun. :) Good thing I got a BMW 2002 a few days ago. ;) I'm also open to having this on Wednesday nights, US EST.

Any night of the week works for me, and I think that the races should take place on a night that works for the most people. I'm having a blast driving these cars and it has done wonders for my driving.

I'm up for wednesday nights. I'm pretty open for time during the "white" months lol. Not much to do here in the winter when money is not in abundance.

I agree with Egghead that this series is just kinda limping along. There was tons of interest at the start, but I think thing just haven't progressed fast enough for people to keep up with it. Personally I am finding more enjoyment out of the other league I am in. Its a ton of fun to race these cars, but we need a full grid to make it a real good time. I do want to keep up with it though as I think we have a good bunch of people.

I have been keeping an eye on this series. I wanted to join but Saturday nites just wasn't fitting into my schedule. If you have it during the week like Wednesday nites that would be ideal.👍 I will keep checking in to see what develops. My PSN=IndyRacer55
