Seems more like another case of "cool car, un-cool driver." Normally, I'm more linear towards the tuners and mods, but I think this thread sounds more about people in... as you call "ricers," that zoom by out of nowhere. I thought this was the case when I seen two stock Foci (plural of Focus), just zoom by out of nowhere to our right.
Other than that, haven't seen much of that here in Houston. Maybe when driving around town, we don't really see those. All we seem to get are drivers who dare start crashes on the freeway. And I'm not going very far as to what kinds of people are involved in this. But, not much of the "ricer fly-by" deal around my way.

I want to move to where you live.i was just searching for people who hated hazards too. a year old.. im very dissapointed than. its rambling true.. but in hopes someday that guy will see it. And to stress the "point" that hazards are lame and only attract 'unwanted' attention. i get it all time after i top them out in my piece, and turn off cuz i dont want to get sited.
and as for that stock racer comment.. .. lot more stock have more balls than high performance for obvious reasons of insurance and price but nonetheless.. respect anyone that feels the need to put themself and others in danger in high speed. and if a stock smokes you ill laugh if you think your too good enough to race it. I laugh at those people. Cuz they did get smoked, who cares what your thinking about insurance. The stock just put a good one on you, LoL.

Usually you have to mess with these ricers a little before you get the fly-by. Once, an 1st-gen eclipse with an ill-fitting boykit and loud exhaust pulled up next to me. I had no intention to street race, but the light was on an uphill, so I chirped the tires a little pulling away (note: my car is a bone stock 90' civic hatch--it has less than 100 hp). I pulled away before he did, but I heard him gunning it, and the road was empty (being the wee hours of the morning) so I said what the hell, I'll have some fun. I got to about 40-50 mph (still in 2nd gear), he was behind me, so I slowed down and took a left at the next light onto a single lane street (now going within 10 mph of the speed limit, maybe about 30-35 mph. He then flies around me across the double yellow.
Only other time I raced somebody from a stop it was a Nissan Pulsar, and he was just asking for it. I held about even with him, but there was traffic ahead so I backed off.
I have never messed with those idiots who like to swerve in and out of traffic at ~90 mph. Although I do like those that cruise at ~80 mph. Trail two or three car lengths behind them, and theya re the ones that will get pulled over, with their loud exhausts attracting the attention.
Yep. pretty much all the time in the GTS. For some reason kids in their riced out rollerskates with their 1.6L modded only with an intake and fart can are a match for a 450hp 8.0L V10. I just let them go. They wanna drive like idiots, let them. I wont because for some reason cops are attracted to this car.

ok i have two cars now, one is a nissan 200sx 2.0 turbo, the other is an 1987 vauxhall astra 1.3 NA mwahahahaha. now, i can' outrace anyone in my astra in traffic, it gives me a real buzz, im not talking about street racing, this is racing people who have m3s but dont know how to use them. i beat a guy off the lights with a 325 coupe today just cause he didnt know how to shift properly. fair my car sounded like an angry blender and he probably thought i was so lame for trying to match myself at all but believe me it's fun.
when i drive the nissan i 'drop the hammer' and the entire line of traffic has disappeared over the horizon. after 10 seconds im doing 100mph and well besides the g-force induced rush all u start thinking about is if a cop will bust u.
all im trying to say is that im sure some of these ricers get the same kicks out of beating everyone in their crap cars cause they know that they are crap. occasionally they fly past someone with REAL skills who hangs out in gtplanet.net but most of the time it's someone who has enough money to buy a 355 but doesn't know a heel-toe from an understeer.
thats all i wanted to say. dont worry im not a ricer, my nissan has no mods, and neither does my astra. and when i see a genuinely good car driven by someone who looks like they know what they are doing i give them all the room in the world. i usually just drive behind and drool hahahaha *reminisces about that gt3 yesterday...
