Any fanatics out there want to discuss anything about this great genre: Rock.

Jimmy already created a thread on metal, I decided to start one on "rock", any kind of rock: Hard Rock, Hair Band, Alternative, Classical Rock, and Grunge. [I consider Punk to be its own genre]

I'll start it off....
I've read on Cinderella's website , they are going to be on the "Rock Never Stops" Tour, supported by Quiet Riot, Ratt, and Firehouse. Anyone have any info on it?

Motley Crue fans: don't miss the "Red White and Crue" Tour this February / March, they have reunited.

Anyone know of any other cool rock concerts coming up.

Like I posted in another thread, I have always been a huge fan of Pink Floyd. Pink Floyd is definite my favorite band, I grew up with it since I was a kid. I have a lot of memories linked to this band, as me and my father would always play it during our vacation trips, or at home. I was so obsessed with Pink FLoyd (and still am, of course) that I would make him play it all the time. Now that I look back at this, it's weird/strange/sort of cool that I decided on which was going to be my favorite band back when I was 5 year old. Pink Floyd will stick with me forever, as I shall live :D

I don't mean Pink Floyd is all I listen to, mind you. I have tons of other bands and I usually cycle between them, when I get tired of listening to one for a certain amount of time, but at the end, I always go back to good ol' trusty Pink Floyd. Call me nerd/fanatic/stupid, whatever you want... I don't care. I know what my music mean to me, and whether you disagree with me or not, it's not going to make me change my mind! :D

The Wizard.

I don't mind listening to Pink Floyd once in a while, but the first rock band I listened to was Motley Crue, Quiet Riot, The Cult, Autograph, and others in Vice City's V-Rock, after that I started listening to other rock bands, withing time I liked many others such as Poison, Cinderella, Ratt, Firehouse, Britny Fox, and some others I listen to.

I've been addicted to rock in various incarnations for about 5 or 6 years now, and I don't think I'm going to end the addiction any time soon. Currently, I'm hopelessly addicted to Rush and Van Halen, although I have recently expanded my tastes in rock, recently discovering Joe Satriani, Pantera, and Dream Theater (all partly thanks to good feedback on said artists from GTP members).

Right now, I'm also highly anticipating AC/DC's plans for their next tour, as I have been dying to see them live since Sarsstock in 2003, where they were by far the best act that day. I'm also waiting to see if Rush and Van Halen will return to the studios to make new albums after their tours in 2004 (I missed out on VH though, tickets were too expensive, and besides, it's not like I missed DLR era VH).

Bands I like that I can call Rock bands are: Pink Floyd, AC/DC, Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath (or is it considered Metal?), Kiss, Van Halen, Silverchair, Audioslave, Creed, Evanescence, Green Day, and some Aerosmith and Bon Jovi´s stuff.

Those are the bands I can think of right now, internationally speaking of course. There are other Brazilian rock bands that I like but I won´t mention them since no one here must have heard of those.

Black Sabbath is considered to be early metal by many, but metal is a direct offshoot of rock, so it is considered to be rock.

Silverzone
I like some newer rock, such as Seether, Poppa Roach, Foo Fighters, and who can forget Nirvana, best alternative Rock band ever.
Nirvana is Grunge.

Has anyone heard of Ratt [??Hair Band??]? I'm starting to listen to them more and more, Hopefully I'll see them this summer.

Cinderella just released a new album: Rocked Wired & Bluesed: The Greatest Hits . I just have to get this one:

Some of my favorite songs are on it. Also Cinderella will be in the Rock Never Stops tour, their going to announce the dates in May. I'm hoping sooner

Cinderella is basically rock music with some blues mixed in, something like Motley Crue with some blues in it, plus a power ballad called "Nobody's Fool". So you might like them if you like the Crue.

Hmm... rock. The following are my favourites from each sub-genre of rock I listen to.
  • Pink Floyd (Prog Rock)
  • Led Zeppelin (Classic Rock)
  • Van Halen (Arena Rock)
  • Black Sabbath (technically Metal, but meh)
  • Alice In Chains (Grunge)
  • Guns N' Roses (Hard Rock)
  • A Perfect Circle (Alt. Rock)

Prodigy sounds like psychadelic rock to me. Correct me if I'm wrong , please.
Atleast Firestarter and the Breathe song.

I lived through Hair Metal the first time, and I'm not eager to repeat the experience. I do have to say that it was better than having lived through the '70s the first time - it had to be.

My kids' karate instructor took his wife to see Crue for her birthday last month... Mr. Romance. I don't even think she was born when they were popular originally.

How was the experience? (I'm actually intersted in it.)

I thought this thread was about The Rock.

Its about rock in general. who's that guy anyways?

Does anyone ever listen to Smile Empty Soul? They're at the top of my list of my favorite bands. Every track on their CD is enjoyably listenable, IMO. I can't wait for their next CD.

I haven't heard of Smile Empty Soul, I'll give 'em a try. What kind of rock are they.

BTW, the Crue's new album is coming out this tuesday. Red White and Crue. ON 2 cd's.

The first cd has many great hits by the band. Like "Live Wire", "Too Fast for Love", "Looks That Kill", "Shout at the Devil", "Smokin' in the Boy's Room", "Girls Girls Girls", "Kickstart My Heart", and "Dr. Feelgood"

The Second cd, has the some of the Crue's 90's good hits like: "Anarchy in the UK", "Primal Scream", "Generation Swine", "Bitter Pill", and "Hell On High Heels". Plus the last three songs are new by the Crue: "Street Fighting Man", "If I Die Tomorow", and "Sick Love Song".

Out February 1st. I'm getting mine soon.

I don't really know what kind of rock they are. I'm terrible at genres. I would say they're a heavier alternative rock. Pssobly grunge. They their music flows like Nirvana's. Most of there songs are slower paced, except for Bottom of a Bottle, which was their big hit. You probably have heard this song. All of their songs are very depressing.

Like I said before, never heard of 'em.

U2 is going on tour sometime in the next couple months (concert announcements on most rock stations for it).

SRV & Double Trouble is by far my favorite (although dead) band. I guess that around half of their songs would be on blues side of rock, but nonetheless, my favorite. The Tragically Hip, ZZ Top, and others follow.

^ Same here. The only decent song they've had since The Joshua Tree is Vertigo. Otherwise, it's just bland, generic pop rock.

I would group Smile Empty Soul with Chevelle and Breaking Benjamin musically. They are OK and the first 5 tracks on the record are fine but they aren't really among my favorite bands.

Right now I'm listening to the new Blood Brothers record and some boysetsfire.

If you want some straight up rock you all should try the self titled record by Melissa auf der Maur, former bassist of Hole and the Smashing Pumpkins. Good stuff.

Didn't tickets sell out for that tour really really fast? I heard a DJ from my favorite station complaining that tickets sold out in only a few ours and he couldn't get tickets. Maybe that's just for the Chicago stop. I don't really care, though. I dont like U2 at all.

I don't really like Motley Crue. I'm not a fan of the whiny, squealish, hair metal bands, kinda like Guns 'n Roses. It all sounds the same to me.

Try their new single Event, you might like it. The song doesn't sound like hair metal at all.

All those groups are alternative metal. And according to allmusic, Smile Empty Soul and Breaking Benjamin may also fall under post-Grunge.
