I had the idea for this style of competition after noticing that some votes in the photo competitions are based purely on who the person is, now I'm not looking to speculate or start arguments so I won't be taking any questions on the matter, but it will be interesting to see how the poll goes when voting starts with unknown entries.

Anyway, the format of this competition is very different to what you will all be used to and for the mean time I will be using the same rules from the 2.0 competitions

The winner of the Pilot week will then choose their theme as they like for the second

This is how it will work

Entries for the competition must be sent to me Via PM and not posted in this thread, any pics posted in this thread will not be considered for the top10 (if all goes well the top 10 will grow to a top 20)

Your first entry will be your last, you will not be allowed to change your entry so be happy with it

Your PM will consist of a link and a link only and must be no bigger than 500px at the largest side

other than that just follow the rules posted below as you would in the 2.0 Competitions

THEME:OPEN
CARS: ANY
LOCATION: ANY
UNIQUE RESTRICTIONS: NONE

What you may not do to a photo:

* Alter the geometry of the car. No stickers, or body modifications not available in game.
* Add shapes or objects from outside of GT5, signatures excepted.
* Remove items from shot (scenery, other cars).
* Use more than 1 image (HDR, photo-stitching, multi-exposure).
* Add a personal signature.

What you may do to a photo:

* Crop and/or resize an image.
* Adjust the level or curve values.
* Alter the colour tone of the image (gradient maps, photo filters, colour balance, etc).
* Adjust brightness, contrast, exposure, shadow/highlights.
* Enhance shadows or highlights (dodge and burn tools in Photoshop, for example).
* Add noise and/or diffuse glow.
* Add a post-game tilt-shift blur, or apply a motion blur to a stationary Photo Travel shot.
* Make use of Layer Blend Modes.
* Use a Sharpening filter and/or tool.
* Scale or enlarge rims.
* Remove or modify license plates.
* Remove the GT watermark.
* Clean up or fix jaggies, texture pixelation, or colour separation.
* Add a vignette effect.

DEADLINE: 20th of March 2011

Happy snapping *expects my Inbox to Explode over the next few days*

Well it's a Pilot week, if it works it will continue, if not I'll bin it, any links to said thread's TVR?

Interesting concept, Fezz. One question/suggestion for the rules: you mention the PM needs to be a link only and that no more than 500 px wide. How 'bout two links: one to a 500px wide preview and one for full-size. I find that viewing the full-size version of photos really helps me determine the recipient of my vote. (Often, a photo will look okay at 500px, but the full-size reveals a lack of proper focus, or some other technical problem.)

Really like the idea of it, I too feel winners are often chosen on who they are not what they've taken!
But I miss scrolling through the pics :(

For a trial run couldn't you have made it a std competition without all the photoshop stuff??

Yeh i know i dont have to photoshop & i wont because i dont have photoshop which might make things a bit unfair y'know

Fair point, maybe be an idea to have 1 week a 2.0 style comp and the next a standard style comp

Two concerns cross my mind:

  • For those of us who spend a great deal of time and effort on our images, there is a concern that a photo without a watermark is very easy for someone else to grab and claim as their own: on a blog, in their flickr gallery, maybe in a future PMC or 2.0 contest, if they're really foolish!
  • Those of us who regularly use watermarks post our images to flickr, imageshack, etc., with those watermarks already in the image. That means that if I want to submit one of my photos for this contest, I have to go back to my original PSD file (if I've even bothered to save it) and remove the watermark, save it a second time without the mark, upload it a second time and send it to you for the contest.

Still, I hope you're able to get enough interest to keep this thing going. I'll be curious to see how it turns out. :)

For some reason I can't see any of the pictures in this thread?!

Anywho, you might have been better off starting with a standard comp instead of a 2.0 since your blind to the competition and 2.0 takes more effort.

Points well noted, I will try a standard competition for week 2 and see how that goes, we will have a top 10 this week at least :D
