Yes - is this some definition of "good" of which I was previously unaware?

Though we did beat USL's Most Winningest Team! Amusingly, on their website, we're referred to as "The Sheffield Wednesday Owls!"

Are you jealous of United, or do you think that they'll just go straight back down with Watford and maybe reading. Also do you wish that Neil Warnock would get turned into some sort of half chipmunk half antilope abomination or do you think that still wouldn't get him to shut his gob?

Big fish, small pond >>>>> smallest fish in big pond.

Warnock does need to clam his yapper though. He's got a chip on both shoulders and a persecution complex bigger than most conspiracy nuts'.

I'm looking forward to the Leeds-Wednesday match at Elland Road this season, since I'm a big Leeds fan and I'm living in Headingly from August. :)

Sheffield Wednesday suck ;)

Joking...

They're an O.K team but they were better 5/6 years ago.

No, they were worse 5/6 years ago. They were better 13/14 years ago.

Why have shefield wasted money on a tour to the US? Do they really think they'll get anything out of it?

They were invited. And, seeing as they pooped on the USL favourites, they might get a few Stateside supporters too...

Famine I reckon Sheffield Wednesday will get relegated this season. However Folly will be a good signing for you.

Dumbest. Penalty. Decision. Ev4r.

Edit: Gah. I watched this one through. Hull only spent a couple of minutes in our half in the whole of the last 45 minutes, and I counted 8 or 9 really good chances (and 4 or 5 really good saves) for us in that time. The penalty was a gimme and Hull didn't deserve to get hit like that - sorry, Hull - and Parkin's second goal was a match-winning goal by any standards, but Wednesday were the better team, by a clear margin, overall. A silly 5 minutes cost us.

I know how ya feel about the penalty decisions. In our games against QPR and Southampton we got two penalties, one against QPR was a dive by Gavin Williams and the one we got against Southampton was practically a nothing one, defender did appear to trip Alan Lee but still didn't seem like one.

Anywya, unlucky last night.

And once again, Wednesday shoot themselves firmly in the pentadactyls.

Having given manager Paul Sturrock - the man responsible for dragging Wednesday from near the bottom of the third tier, through promotion to the second tier and then keeping them in that league despite a squad full of injuries and no money - a new four year contract, within 2 months they sack him. Just after winning our first home game of the season (followed by a second immediately after his departure) when we were still in touch with most of the rest of the division.

So, one week after announcing a £500,000 operating profit for the previous season - the first profit generated in well over a decade - they're going to have to pay out an hyooooowge compensation package to the man primarily responsible for the profit (increased income attributed to performance on the pitch and increased gates).

Admittedly a 4-0 loss away to Colchester was a bit galling (not to mention the result against Wrexham in the League Cup), but we've only had one fit striker for most of the last year, and no money to buy extra ones - "profit" is a relative term, as Wednesday are still £26.5 million in debt.

You really have to wonder sometimes about the Wednesday board. It doesn't matter who they are as, for the last 10 years, they just don't learn. Trevor Francis, David Pleat, Ron Atkinson, Danny Wilson, Peter Shreeves, Paul Jewell, Terry Yorath, Chris Turner and Paul Sturrock have all come and gone in the last 11 years, with everyone after Pleat suffering from a whole load of no-ones and no money to buy them (Pleat - and the board of the time - is largely responsible for Wednesday's rapid descent, having found themselves massively in debt and allowed Pleat to sell off almost all of the "big names" who might attract other "big names" to the club).

Still. You've got to laugh.

Have you got any fingernails left today Famine? Having your goalkeeper score a last ditch equaliser has to have been a little nervewracking!
Are you still disappointed that they sacked Sturrock after The Owls recent run of form? They're almost in the top half of the table!

We were top half before the Brum game, and with us, Plymouth and Sunderland all on 34pt with just 2 goals' difference (Sunderland +1, Plymouth 0 and us -1), we're honorary top-half... :D

Long-run Sturrock's sacking will hurt us - the compensation package for the 3 years, 10 months left on his new 4 year contract will wipe out the '05-'06 operating profit at a stroke. Laws is also reaping the rewards of a fit squad - something Sturrock rarely had. But we am just 2 wins from the play-offs now... (and needing 12 more points for league safety... :D)

Still, it's never dull at Hillsborough...

How old is Mark Crossley now? He must be 78, at least.

Him going up for a corner brings a whole new meaning to the phrase "big lump up the park"

Well into his 80s, I'd have thought...

Newcastle brought on Pavel Srnicek yesterday - there's a bit of a blast from the (Wednesday in the Premiership) past.

Single digit league positions? Whatever next?

I listened to that game on the radio, Sheffield Wednesday gave Manchester City a good run for there money from the sound of it. They nearly equalised late on.

Well, the league table got interesting, fast...

Luton are down. Southend are 4 points from safety with 6 points left to get. Barnsley are effectively safe (5 points clear and on last season's "safe" tally of 50pt). Two of Sunderland, Derby County and Birmingham City will get promoted and any 4 of Sunderland, Derby County, Birmingham City, Preston North End, West Bromwich Albion, Wolverhampton Wanderers, Southampton, Stoke City, Colchester United, Sheffield Wednesday and, at the outside, Cardiff City to get into the play-offs. 4th through 10th are all covered by a single game.

Of the three top teams, Birmingham have the hardest run-in - playing Wolves (6th), Preston North End (4th) and Sheffield Wednesday (10th - but unbeaten in 12 with 5 straight wins).

This is going to be close.

Thank you for beating Naaaarwich on the last day XD shame you couldn't hold on to 3-0 because that'd have been far more enjoyable for Town fans, but oh well.

Brian Laws did what he said and kept us afloat..!

He was probably watering the pitch and forgot to turn off the watering machine.

A new lawn costs about 100.000 $ btw.

There was a director on the news. He said the water reached the 9th row of seats (on the south stand) and that they have to dry the pitch out and then have a new one laid in the next six weeks at a cost of £120,000.
