Futurama!
Oh wait, that's not in the poll. I'll stick with Matt Groening though and go for The Simpsons.
Had way more fun watching that than Family Guy

I had The Simpsons on the other day and was shocked at how funny it actually was - I'd almost completely forgotten...

I think it's fair to say that it went downhill. However, I think we're starting to see Family Guy go the same way, so the former gets the vote from me.

Futurama!

And agreed 👍

*Waits for "Good news everyone! I've added another option to the poll!"*

When I saw that there was no option for Futurama, this was my reaction:

I recently watched every family guy episode (up to the date I finished) (took me a while) and I am looking forward to finishing my TV marathon with watching every simpsons episode.

One thing I felt after finishing Family guy was "well what do I do now?"
Not sure on the Simpsons. I know it will take me a VERY long time. (4 episodes a night is what I was averaging). I'm sure I'll enjoy it a lot more now that I am older and can understand more jokes, but I don't know if my heart will be in it. Next after Simpsons will be South Park. I can't wait. :)

People say The Simpsons went downhill after Mike Scully joined. I don't know if he did or he didn't, what are your thoughts on this?

There are only so many homophobic penis jokes and "Oh, look! A totally random mauling of a character" skits I can take before I sour of a show. Family Guy is great for frathouse parties, but it's getting old.

Frustrating. They have some genuinely funny and inventive jokes, but they've raised the "awkward pause for effect" to an unfunny artform, and from time to time, they simply add something "shocking" or "tasteless" just for effect.. when they don't really need to.

Simpsons or Family Guy?

Neither. Futurama and American Dad are the funnier Groening/McFarlane cartoons.

Always been a fan of the Simpsons but Futurama wins for me on characters - Bender is probably the funniest cartoon character ever, and the fantastic lines really come thick and fast - not that the Simpsons doesn't have some great jokes, but I feel like Futurama is more relentlessly funny - though the last few episodes I've seen of the brand new (in the UK) series have taken a bit of a dip.

I've liked Family Guy since I started watching it a few years back too and again, some of the characters are great - Stewie has some great lines and I've a lot of admiration for McFarlane as a writer and voice actor. However, I think American Dad is funnier, and Roger is right up behind Bender (ooh-err) as a genuinely brilliant cartoon character. There's something about Roger and Bender in being non-human that makes them funnier - perhaps more creative freedom in what they can do or say (as if to prove the theory, I find Klaus in American Dad very funny too, and Brian in Family Guy, and Dr. Zoidberg in Futurama).

If I had to chuck them into some sort of overall order, I'd go for this:

1) Futurama
2) American Dad
3) Simpsons
4) Family Guy
...
...
...
...
...
5) The Cleveland Show

So I guess for the purpose of this poll, Simpsons wins. But I find all of the top four very funny, for the most part.

I like watching The Simpsons since their movie came out. After a few years I got bored as they gotten more boring. :grumpy:

Family guy is more funny because theirs more pain, and more funnier jokes.

For me my overall top 5 would be:
1. Cleveland Show
2. American Dad
3. Futurama
4. Family Guy
5. Simpsons

So I suppose Seth just beats Matt (ironic given my name) because of what's where and how much of what is where. :)

1) The Simpsons: Sure the new ones are forgettable, but the 90's-early 00's were great cartoons.
2) Futurama: Pretty much what hfs said a couple posts above, although I haven't seen any new episodes past the movies.
3) American Dad: Hated it at first as it was a Family Guy clone but has grown into it's own show over time and doesn't rely on crude humor like Family Guy.
4) Family Guy: Had some great early episodes, newer ones just seem to rip off older episodes though which is never a good thing.
5) Cleveland Show: The Thing That Should Not Be...:yuck:

I used to like Simpsons until i saw Family Guy the first time. Now I rarely if ever laugh at Simpsons. It just doesn't have any edge in comparison to Family Guy.

The new season of Futurama is exceptional. As soon as I started watching it again though.. It goes on break till mid 2013.

Me on another forum
In a way, Family Guy now is just other people's jokes and memes mixed in with a copy of Viz magazine.

Family Guy series 1-3 are good, but now it's embarrassing. Plus the Simpsons in their prime, series 3-8, trumps anything. Season four's Last Exit To Springfield is one of the finest things ever produced in any medium. I love Futurama too, but they should have stopped after the feature films. The new stuff on Comedy Central is awful.

Simpsons at its best
Futurama at its best
Family Guy at its best

South Park at its best

I honestly have to say that I favor Family Guy over The Simpsons. Keep in mind, I used to be pretty into the Simpsons, and I have seasons 1 through 11, as well as the 20th Anniversary 20th Season Edition from a couple years back. Season 1 of the Simpson wasn't that funny, it really seemed more like a test-run to see what they could and couldn't get away with on 1990s television. Seasons 2 and 3 began to pick up, and Season 5 and 6 were the pinnacle in my opinion, with seasons 7 through 10 also being quite good, and then downhill from there. The episodes where Homer goes to space, where Bart breaks his arm just as summer rolls around, and the Who Killed Mr. Burns duo were some of their best episodes, in my opinion. And just recently, a newer episode of The Simpsons was on, and I actually changed the channel; I've never done that before. The newer episodes seem to be dull and bland, with newer celebrity guest-stars sprinkled in. It just seems tired.
I got into Family Guy after I had been watching The Simpsons for a couple years, and at first I found it to be the most hilarious thing I'd ever seen. Several seasons purchased later, and I can see that the first 3 or so seasons were superior to any thing that came after that. I mean, they were just fantastic; they had a nice balance of humor, story, and never too many cutaway gags, unlike newer episodes. Later episodes of Family Guy have started to piss me off, with more and more cutaway gags that either just waste time with the characters dragging a joke out, chicken fights, or freaking Conway Twitty for an entire freaking song. Come on now. That said, I still find Family Guy to be funny, and it's aged much better than The Simpsons have. I also like American Dad, and the Cleveland Show is alright, but not great.
