Well, thats race 1 done and dusted. 12 starters, but only 9 finished. It was a shame that Shin_roh had some severe connection issues, and I am not sure what happened to not4a4, as he didnt seem to get off the grid at all. I am quite pleased this ones out of the way, as Laguna Seca isnt one of my favorite tracks. Well done to the podium, all well deserved positions. Full final results will be posted tomorrow, until then its champagne time for the top 3.

I'm hoping not all pit strategies are 'change on last lap'

Kind of feels like it doesn't matter about the other set of tyres....

I changed 2nd to last lap. :) I think laguna is quite easy on the tyres, once the more twisty circuits are raced on, i think tyre wear will be more noticeable.

Well, Ade kindly sent me details of the car set-up he was using, after 1 set up lap I had to put my daughter to bed. I missed most of qualifying, but managed to put 1 lap in which put me 8th or so on the grid.
I sat in my seat watching the 30 second count down elapse...then the False Start Warning screen came up. A minute later it was still there- but as its PS3 and GT5 combined, we're all used to long loading times, especially if there's loads of people in the lounge.
Then the warning screen disappeared and I was on the grid. Shame that it had already said start, and everyone was 3 corners ahead!
I decided to go for it anyway, with the hope that there would be a pile up and I could catch some people up! I got round the first hairpin, and then it came up with a black screen- and the 'You have been disconnected from the lobby' screen.
Several bad words were said! :D
Then, I assumed that this would have happened to everyone, and restart would be the case. I logged back in, rejoined the lobby, and got thrown out again. I was getting really annoyed at this point!
Went through all the log in again, eventually joined the room expecting to see everyone on the grid waiting-but you were all on lap 5!
Absolutely gutted :( i was really looking forward to it. I hate my playstation/network/gt5 sometimes :(
Ahh well, hopefully I won't get booted out for the next one!
Hope you all had a fun race.

I just want to say well done Podium finishers.

My race was uneventful, consistent but slow. My fastest lap.

Can't say I'm enjoying the car at the moment.

Well that was a bit of a disaster lol... It's becoming ever more difficult to find time for these events and the one time recently that I do and my Internet craps out on me :( I was kicked off PSN not just the lobby, and with no chance of rejoining I decided on a movie instead. Booo!!

Would just like to say as well buy if I caused anyone any grief I really am sorry. I was lagging for sure and sometimes by myself too. I would jump forward on the track and scare myself silly! I span a few times correcting mistakes that turned out to be lag. But hey ho, there's always next time as they say ;) If I manage to make it! Haha. D'oh!

Hope you all had fun :) I came unprepared and without practice. Was it just me or were yous guys cars equipped with roller skates instead of back wheels too? ;)

I too had problems with connection. It was OK during practice but then I got kicked out of lobby during quali. When I rejoined I was lagging badly so I went out and rejoined again.

I missed qualifying but at least I was able to join. This however ruined my performance in the race as I couldn't concentrate and I was 2sec off my pace. Also my strategy changed. Being last on the grid I went with option tyres first.
Most of the race I was alone. I had a little battle with Ade but he pitted later than me so I overtook him without a real fight.

I hate it when you spend time practicing and then it all crashes down because of connection problems.

Hopefully my luck will change and spending more time in the car should bring better results. Looking at the last season I do get much better later in the championship.

OK Sunday Cuppers, last nights results are ready. Firstly though, it was a great shame that there were connection issues that affected many peoples races. Shin_roh and Not4a4 suffered the worst, and they will receive some points for their participation. I am not sure what we can do to remedy the online issues, but 1 thought that I have had is would it make a difference if everyones PS3 was set to the same time zone. We all reboot our PS3s and clear the cache, so setting the time to internet on the PS3 XMB to BST before loading up the game wouldnt take any time at all. Just a thought.

Anyway, onto last nights results. JIMFTR made an explosive debut to the Sunday Cup, claiming Pole position, fastest lap and race win. All the front runners ran on the Medium tyre choice for most of the race. This has made me have a little rethink on the tyre regulations. For all future races, the option tyre must be used for at least 25% of the race. I will update the race calendar with the minimum required laps this week.

so much information. I love it. Jim I'll watch your replay as soon as I get in front of a pc with massive interest. By looking at the replays I was hitting the same top speed as you guys but was slow so need to figure that out.

Well, looks like i'll be missing the race at Tokyo R246 on august 12th due to a holiday, which is a shame as missing a race will affect my season. But these things happen though.

The sports tyres on this car last ages, I think its due to the weight of it. I didnt intend to pit on the last lap, I was waiting to see when Cobani and Jim pitted. Glad to see something implemented quickly and it should add a bit more of a pit stratergy 👍.

Well done Jim on the win and everyone who turned up for the race, (shame about the DC's).

Good race had a good battle Cobani for the first 8 laps with him sitting in my boot, then when I started to pull away a little bit I went off after the corkscrew and when I went to get back on track I span into the wall seem to take an age to get back on track :).

👍👍👍 to Ade for organizing it . Look forward to some more races.

I should be able to show up for the next race as well. The Belgium weekend is happening this week. Sadly I'll miss GT3.5 Q_Q And fiday's Core is also questionable, since the lecturer for which I TA decided to correct the exam in one go.

Great, that means you wont have as much catching up to do.

That is a shame, although I am sure that Cobani, Hasslemoff and a few others will be pleased.

As we discovered in Sundays race, the Sports tyres seem to be very hard wearing on the Elise, with some drivers managing to go almost race distance on 1 set of mediums. As I mentioned last night, there will be a minimum limit of 25% race distance on which option tyres must be used. I have updated the race calender with this information.

The info in the OP has also been changed to show this. As we learnt early in S1,(TONYBUK RETIRING AND THEN REJOINING THE RACE) there are sometimes small changes that have to be made to improve The Sunday Cup.

You mean the part where I let you catch your breath for a moment? ;) 👍

Great stuff Ade, good and fast reaction and all for the better! 👍

New graphic to share with everyone is the starting grid. I have only just made it, so it was a bit late for the first race, but here it is, and also the final results table to show where everyone finished compared to the starting grid.

Only 1 week until race 2. I will make a few practice runs at Grand valley East during the week, on both the Hard and Medium tyres, and post my times. Free practice session will be next Saturday at 8.00pm.

Had a few laps of Grand Valley East, and I think that this race is going to be much closer than Laguna Seca. Only ran on the mediums, (as I had to use my dodgy PS3 with an iffy bluray drive, and once the track has loaded I have to reset it to make any changes) and managed a 1:07.9xx on the set up used at Laguna. Will have another go tomorrow with the good PS3 to see if I can get into the 1:06's. I will also have a go on the sports hards.

Also, I made a small error in the race 2 graphic, and listed the track as Grand Valley Speedway. We will be racing at Grand Valley East. The mistake has now been corrected.

RACE2-1.png

Edit, Didnt have too long tonight, but managed a 1:07.524 on mediums. Reckon I can get a few 10ths if I can get the chicanne before the tunnel a bit better. Sports hard tyres time was 1:08.9xx

Short race practice session tonight between 7.30pm and 9.30pm if anyone wants to join. We may have a guest, KOR_HELLRAZOR may join us for the session. Had a few laps with him last night, and managed a 1:07.9xx. HELLRAZOR's was a 1:08.1xx, so I am pleased with my time, as he is quick.
