I may be a newbie, but I'm entitled to my opinion, sir. To me it was just a weird episode. I still like Rarity. She's one of my favorites...that episode, though...I don't know...I think I'm ponied out for a couple days. Maybe I'll watch more tomorrow. Going through the seasons is hard, taxing work.

Everyone is entitled to their opinions, however this is based under the wrong assumptions, and maybe a misconception of the episode's point. "A Dog and Pony Show" is the 19th episode of the first season, up to that point Rarity was showcased nearly as a trope of all the female traits (delicate, extremely sensitive, unable to do manly or aggressive things, etc...), but in this episode we see her using these traits to get herself out of this sticky situation, while the general conception (at the time) was that she couldn't get herself out of it as how she was portrayed up to that point.

IMO is more of a parody of marriage or those kind of situations in which you have to deal with that type of girl, just showcases that bit and makes a parody of it, rather than showcasing her as a ... bitch (for example you have episodes like "The Mysterious Mare Do Well", that would be an episode in which RD is showcased as a complete bitch, a similar thing happens in "Boast Busters", but in a tamer manner).

As far as suggestiveness goes in that episode, well ... no idea where that's coming from, I just remembered WoW from all things, and that's hardly sexual ... I guess.

Well, as for suggestiveness...she is ganged up on and dragged down a hole into a prison by some dirty dogs who've been watching her from the bushes. So..she was kidnapped by stalkers. Sure, they didn't really do anything to her...but...and she was even chained up....but that aside, I guess it was a pretty good episode just to see Rarity whine her way to victory...but...I still wouldn't want my kids watching a show that teaches them to whine, cry and complain until they get their way. Rarity is NOT a good role model...Pinky Pie is better.

So you rather have your kids to be hyper, over active, annoying, 4th wall breaking balls of unstoppable energy? .... :|

Also, if my kids thought they could whine their way to victory I'll belt them across the ass. Thank god I have no kids.

You're forgetting that she's the embodiment of generosity, which may not say much for her actions in Dog and Pony Show, but thinking that one episode where she does what she can to escape enslavement (I don't think it matters how she gets out, just that she does, plus it was funny regardless) can have a negative affect on how children see her is rubbish. She may have flaws, just like any other character in the show (which is a main reason why so many of us like the show), but Rarity is a generally a nice character who cares for her friends greatly.

Using Pinkie Pie as an example of a better role model isn't much better, for the reasons Spoil-t pointed out. I'm guess that means Rainbow Dash being a hard-headed and egotistic character at times will mean kids shouldn't watch the show because she teaches them to act that way. Not because the show is supposed to entertain them. If it was just going to teach them to act nice all the time rather than be a generally fun thing to watch, then we'd end up with one of the previous gen MLP series'.

There are so many other shows aimed at children these days have characters that aren't created to be role models. If that were the case, these shows would be bland as hell and have greatly reduced entertainment value. I know she's whiny at times and over-dramatic, but some of us love that simply for being humorous. If people take that to heat as much as you do, then they probably have a harder time enjoying the show.

Yeah.

None of the characters are perfect role models, which is exactly what makes them all so great. Dashie has her massive ego, Twi has her occasional over the top OCD, Rarity has her demanding girly girl side, AJ has her stubbornness, and Pinkie has her whole inability to take things seriously most of the time. Seeing the characters overcome these flaws without completely doing away with them is exactly what makes these ponies better role models than most other modern cartoons, IMO. I mean most cartoons everyones nice and everyone acts perfect all the time, all that serves to teach kids that the world is nice, everything is nice, and if they're nice and perfect everything will stay that way, basically this:

And on the subject of things this show teaches that others don't. Other kid's shows generally teach you that if someone rustles your jimmies then you should just keep playing nice and they'll just give up and go away. Ponies do the opposite, when someone rustles their jimmies they do something about it, they can be see literally beating 🤬 up to get what they need in several episodes. This show and these characters basically show that you can't just glide through life on smiles and sunshine; sometimes you have to take action to solve problems. And that part is true for pretty much every episode. This show does more to prepare kids for the world than pretty much any kids shows people have come to mind when they think "good role models".

Having negative character traits makes the characters better role models is my main point.

The character imperfections are one of the factors that makes the show as engaging as it is. Which I think it pretty cool.

Also, turns out I'm going nowhere this weekend. I still have the leaked episode stream bookmarked, but I might as well wait until Saturday to watch it (not watching the livestream, but the leaked version instead, at the same time the episode is airing live).

Well, looks like I won't see the new episode. I'll have to wait to see it, as I'll be leaving to go to Cuba tomorrow (you may be aware if you've been in the chat), and I won't have internet access there, so no ponies for me. Don't worry, I'll be back around the the 21st or so.. I'll only miss 1 or 2 episodes, so I won't miss too many. I can catch up. So, bye for a week I guess.

Sorry for ignoring you guys in the chat today. I thought I would be far less busy and have time to chat. Well hopefully next time.

That comic, there's no zas! *shocked and appalled* :P

And now for something I never do, a review.

A black and gold pony, there is only one other place I've seen one of those and she is now my new favorite background character

When Lightning And Rainbow were teamed up, I immediately thought of Senna and Prost.

All those pics you've seen of Spitfire's cutie mark? Irrelevant!

All in all, it's my new favorite episode.

So Spitfire's voice seems different now (more noticeably than it was in Hurricane Fluttershy). I like how she has a major speaking role this time, but I would have loved it if they had her talking like she did in season 1. Not complaining though.

Also, she acts as if she's never failed massively like we've seen in the past, and as if RD never saved her, so... lack of continuity is a bit of a problem there.

I guess Lightning Dust had it coming really. It may seem harsh because she had potential to be a great flyer as well as having natural talent. Dash standing up for herself and her friends, plus being willing to give up her dream for it was cool though. It's like she's far more easier to like since the last episode.
Overall, I don't think it was as good as last weekend's episode (it's tough to beat Scootalove), but season 3 is still yet to disappoint since the 2-parter.

Oh, and 'dat lens flare at the end. :3

Huh, I never picked up on that once during the episode. I think it looks better than the fanon version we've all seen over the past year.

All I will say is I 🤬 love it. I can tell the artists put a lot of effort into those flying scenes and it showed. Almost reminds me of the times I went flying IRL it was that good.

Senna and Prost were always a good laugh when they were together 👍 . Nice comparison you chose there.

THAT'S A NEW ACADEMY RECORD!

Sooo, at the end, I was slightly distracted. What happened? Is Dash a Wonderbolt, or just honorary something or another?
