FrzGT Well it's good to see new faces around here. And AT is pretty enjoyable, though I don't often discuss it.
As for the finale. That was... some hot-blooded 🤬 right there. I...
I really wish they didn't blow up the library just to make room for that ostentatious castle. Sure, she lost her reading material (which may have been conveniently reassembled and placed within her castle for all I know), but there was more sentimental value there than a simple disposable tree library.
With all those episode teasers, the finale was still as hype-inducing that season 2's. Maybe even moreso. Almost entirely due to Twilight and Tirek going toe-to-toe in a battle akin to something better suited to DBZ, but without the filler. I know myself and others were fooled into hoping that Discord joined forces with Tirek just to get the final key, but he legitimately went back to be a villain when he took Tirek's offer. Seriously? I assume that U-turn was only included to hammer in the fact that he realises that friendship can't be beaten. Kind of stupid on his part, I thought. I'd rather see him join Tirek just to stab him in the back and take the key than render his reformation pointless like that.
Tirek though. The most popular villain from a previous generation making a return with a backstory that even included Scorpan (as Tirek's brother, oddly enough. Perhaps a character we'll see next season?). I can't say I have any complaints about how he was depicted this time. Properly menacing and almost overpowering, while not quite as hammy as his previous incarnation, plus I loved the banter between him and Discord. Many held onto the hope that an old villain would return one day, and it wasn't disappointing. Throwing in the fact that he escaped Tartarus when Cerberus did back in season 2 (which many had already headcanoned this week) was a great touch.
And then there's the rainbow powers everyone waited for to act as another convenient deus ex machina. While it had far more substance than the love magic explosion in S2 (the whole season built up to its use), it was nothing surprising.
While this finale was so much better than S3's, and possible the best in the series in some respects, it does highlight the fact that the series isn't anywhere near as quaint as it was in S1. And knowing how much has changed since then just makes me long for seasons past more than S5 right now.
