with a few of the "partners" leaving the GT platform, i feel like they know this ship is slowly sinking?

Is more that economy, globally speaking, has been harsh for automotive industry since covid, today tarrifs topic is not helping, so it is normal to see these companies cancel sponsorship and similar stuff to save budget, I am sorprosed that Brembo still in tbh

I wouldn't see it that negatively, maybe it's logical that with GT World Series not growing (be it in terms of viewership or other aspects) and GT7 getting older, it just dosen't make sense fot them in this format. After all, Toyota can always do simpler, time trial based events like AMG and Honda last year.

RIP

It was a fun series and something else to look forward to.
To be honest, the GT Cup was one of those championships where I would join without missing a single round, most of the time. It had been the event where I had dropped from DR A+ to DR A, but I still enjoyed the combinations nonetheless. Plus that small hype of what the new Toyota car could be for a round was fun.

But it was a good 5 years to be competing on.

I had fun when I participated. What will be interesting is the announcement of Hyundai working with PD for esports. If that’s still happening.

I don't think I ever missed a round of these series. Heck, my decision to buy a (non-GR) Toyota may have even been influenced by the advertising.

Really enjoyed it, and will miss it. Ultimately, much like GT2 lobbies in GTWS it didn't mean much. I remember one season where a A+ guy won GT2 overall in North America on his sandbagging B account.

Seems the game is becoming pretty thin these days especially for someone who has played every day since day1.

The Supra is in it's final year, the GR Yaris and GR Corolla were short term limited offers, so the whole GR thing is winding down, and I see this as part of it.

Any decline in GT7 is purely coincidental, and there are plenty of exciting opportunities in motorsport to pursue if there was the will to do so.

GR's not winding down, it's being integrated into the entire vehicle lineup.

But that only confirms GR really is winding down, at least in terms of sport cars, with the engineers now working on new, more efficent combustion engines, instead of bespoke/tuned cars. GR badge may live on only as a GR-Sport trim level, which is just how other car makers do it nowadays - especially with EVs, badges like GT, RS, ST mean just more power, but not more sportiness.

From my understanding, it's only the current Supra generation. There will be another one coming in '26 (or '27, not sure, but it doesn't make sense for Toyota to go all in on Repco Supercars only to kill the Supra before they even started )

I would not call this for winding down:

Hopefully we will see many of these cars in GT7. :)

I think it's a shame to see it go, however
Polyphony have a lot of options like a Teams championship that they could do instead.

It could be like manufacturers where you sign up for one "team" which gives you a set car for each race of the season, whereas other teams give you a different car per race. It wouldn't be limited to group 3 and group 4 like manufacturers is.

PD should use this as an opportunity to try fresh ideas rather than just continuing Nations and Manufacturers without TGR.

GTWS is getting a bit stale for me with a stagnant car and track list (for manufacturers especially) and there's no reason they couldn't change it up for comparatively little effort.

Yeah, future like this would be awesome, but I am afraid that at least in Europe, non-premium sporty models are on decline. When you look at the EU market, Toyota itself now offers only a few last Supras and GR Yarises, Hyundai's N portfolio shrinked only to Ioniq 5N, Ford axed hot hatches and now sells only Mustangs.

On the other hand, it is obvious that Toyota, Honda or Nissan are working on new hi-end EV sport cars.

And back to the topic - it is good, that Toyota and Mazda are still partnering GTWS.

The idea would be great for a change in the series. When it could mean more times to play around, with street and road cars.

It got me thinking of races where it specifies a certain body-type (Sedans, hot-hatches, or sport cars), and each manufacturer has a representative model based on that body-type (Instead of cars being made under Gr.4 & 3 rules). But come of think of it, that could cut a few manufacturers out if they don't have a specific model that fits the body-type.

Okay, so I’m checking some GT4 European Series news and check on the Supra GT4. Malaysia are doing a tournament on IRacing, Assetto Corsa and RaceRoom. Interesting.
The Toyota GR Malaysia eRacing Championship is one of the country’s biggest racing simulation events. This year, it is a national level esports event brought to you by Toyota Malaysia and sanctioned jointly by the Motorsports Association of Malaysia and Malaysia Esports Federation.

Open to participants all over Malaysia, the competition will comprise three classes – Junior, Club and Pro.

Seeing that two names is nice and all, but it got me feeling like "eh". I remembered that there's membership prices for an "e-Sports license", and having to be in a club to have the license in the first place.
Granted, the matter only comes if you pass through the qualifying, which is a top 10 from each category, instead of a top 30 (or 40?) from the previous versions.

The USA do a GR Cup League as well. That gets broadcast on YouTube. Not sure of any membership fees though. I think, don’t quote me, they have prizes for winning.
